Terminator: Genisys - Part 8

The bickering would be lovers angle between Kyle and Sarah is so wrong headed for the Terminator series that I wonder if the studio, the writers and Alan Taylor ever watched a Terminator movie before.

They obviously watched them, considering how much they try to play on shot-by-shot remade scenes and nostalgia callbacks, but they obviously didn't actually understand anything.

Terminators don't have emotions, Sarah and Reese didn't bicker like rom com characters, and Reese is not a buff meathead.

See Andrew that is exactly why they chose cutesy Clarke over an actress like Brie Larson. They wanted a cutesy faux tough girl Sarah Connor, they didn't want a real actress who would give the character soul and grit.

They wanted Clarke to bring in the Game of Thrones audience.

If I ever see this, it'll more than likely be just so that me and my brother can riff on something.

Maybe Pops had his CPU set to read/write like Uncle Bob in T2 ?

And Terminators don't monologue.

I hope that they bring the story to a close in the Genisys trilogy. My idea would be that they finally prevented Judgment day/skynet and the machine take over in the last film in the Genisys trilogy.

T2 ended it perfectly. The perfect, forever looping time paradox. Everything since has been, and will continue to be, superfluous and nothing but a cash grab.

All movies are made for profit. T2 didn't solve anything. It left the future in the air. If there wasn't a T3 we wouldn't of known the answer. Cameron even said on the T2 commentary that the battle/war couldn't be won like that it has to be fought over multiple timelines. Don't hold me to it but something like that is on the dvd. I'll have to find it properly and then explain it.

A chase film of sorts in the future war setting could be great. Obviously its not a new idea and its something that people have been wanting since the first Terminator but I totally think its achievable.

Imagine the simplicity of the Fury Road story translated into a Terminator film, set it over a couple of days. John and the Resistance are at point A and and needs to get to point B all the while there are hoards of Terminators on their tail. It needs to be a horror/sci-fi war film.

As John is closing in on his final and most important mission, barely a shell of his former self he is starting to lose his mind as he deals with the pardox and shutting down skynet/sending his father back in time to save the world. Perhaps its not till he meets Kyle that we start to see him gaining parts of his humanity back.

Salvation at least tried (and succeeded in my opinion) in taking the franchise into the early future with John Connor and the Resistance fighting Skynet. I would have loved to see another movie or two like this in the future finally ending the franchise with Kyle Reese being sent back by John Connor, Full Circle, Franchise Complete.
I'm so tired of the re-treads, "X-men DOFP type Reboot" Terminator films. Terminator 3 Rise of the Machines felt like a T2 remake until the last 15 or 20 mins. Terminator Genisys was a "Revisit/Reboot".
At least Salvation tried to be something new and take the franchise somewhere. It tried to progress the franchise not needing Arnold anymore.
I know I'm the minority here, but its how I feel.

Salvation should have been a straight war with the machines film and instead was the beginning of an inane "trilogy," that nobody wanted. It even had a sorta time traveling protector robot/cyborg.

I wanted it.
Terminator Genisys it the supposed start of an "insane" trilogy that I do not want LOL
Oh well, Cant keep everyone happy that's for sure. At this point, I think I'd just be happier to see the franchise just die. I didn't hate Genisys, I didn't hate any of the Terminator films. but Terminator, T2 and TS are the only 3 that I "Loved".

Believe it or not I don't hate any of the Terminator films either. T3 is nothing but a dumb rip off of T2 but it's mostly watchable, Salvation has a lot of boring and bad parts but it's not the worst thing ever and "Marvel's The Terminator" isn't awful as a film (bland and unmemorable for sure) but it is an awful Terminator movie.

Guys I can't forget this crap if you keep bumping the damn movie thread.

I hear ya, I either never seen the animated film you speak of or it was just that forgettable LOL.
I'd love to see a new Terminator film that blows me away, finally does what everyone wants it to do, but I'm starting to very seriously doubt that will ever happen. I think that's what they wanted to try and do with Genisys, but failed at it.

The "Marvel's The Terminator" thing was a joke. I call Terminator Genisys that because it reminded me of a Marvel movie.

I like Marvel movies but that the tone is wrong for a Terminator film.

At least for 2/3 of the movie or so, The Winter Soldier is a better Terminator than anyone in Genisys :woot:

I agree that Salvation gets extra points for trying to do something different. But that wasn't enough. It wasn't a memorable movie.

And sadly, the one Terminator project I want continued is never happening...

RIP SCC

I like Marvel movies but that the tone is wrong for a Terminator film.

I got into a bit of an argument with Forbes writer and Terminator Genisys defender extraordinaire about Terminator being akin to a Marvel movie in tone. He tried to argue that the fact that they mimicked scenes from the original movie and the general plotline made it tonally like a Terminator movie whereas I argued the humor and lack of real stakes made it more like a Marvel movie.

Granted with a Marvel movie, we like to see our characters survive because we've grown to them and the actors playing them.

Don't get me wrong. I love Arnold! but Terminator can easily move forward without needing him any longer. That's another thing I loved about Salvation, it moved forward without him, we were in the beginning of the future Skynet vs Humanity war and it had the young Arnold cameo and that was it, a nod to the old, but start with the new. We didn't need a rewritten Terminator movie explaining why Arnold looks old now and etc.
As I said, I didn't hate Genisys, I didn't love it either.
I'm not against another Terminator movie, but don't want another re-visit, remake, reboot, etc. do something. move forward. or just let the franchise rest in peace.

The problem was though Salvation wasn't very good and flopped, so people thought the series wouldn't be successful without Arnold. In a way they have been proved right as Genysis made more than Salvation world wide.
