Terminator: Genisys - Part 8

From the positive things I've heard others say of re-released movies like Titanic and Jurassic Park, I think it will be more than worth it. Hearing Brad Fiedel's score in IMAX is easily worth a 15 dollar ticket for me.

I really miss this guys work. When i first watched this film (9 years old) even i clocked on how unique the score and soundtrack really was.
Dark, mournful, dread, suspense it was used at great cue points throughout the entire film.

From the first shot of the terminator scanning the horizon , T100's scene with johns foster parents " there was a big guy looking for him on a motorcycle, has that got anything to do with this. T1000 looks up slowly (T1000's theme filters in slowly)Sarah assasination of dyson (her terminator theme) brilliant stuff from Fieldel and cameron, You don't get scores like this nowere days because of the risks and general disregard of unique pieces of music. Thankfully in the time period of when this was made , more composers had control over there music alongside the directors vision.

On an entertaining level genisys was to me but it doesn't compare to the first two film. They are just different Terminator films.

So duing Christmas break I got this film on blueray (have not seen it for a little while). So I had a chance to stay up at watch it again giving it 100% attention when my family went to bed. My opinion changed on it slightly but in the end I still cant help but feel disappointed in it.

It has almost the reverse problems I had with Terminator 3 Rise of the Machines (In that movie I hated the first 2/3's of the film but loved the last 1/3) With Genisys, I loved the first 1/3 then really didn't care for the last 2/3's.

I did enjoy the revisit to 1984,l thought that was well done and the CGI young Arnold looked great! I actually liked Emilia Clark as Sarah Connor and Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese (I know majority of people did not). I did NOT like Jason Clarke as John Connor.
I understand this film is a "Reboot" similar to X-men DOFP but I felt cheated and almost like a slap in the face after 4 previous films preaching the same thing.

I'd still say Terminator 3 Rise of the Machines is my least favorite Terminator film, but Genisys is not far behind.

If they do continue this with the planed new Trilogy, I hope they right some wrongs. I suppose only time will tell.

I don't know there will be sequels given how badly this one was booed.

Ive wondered that myself. But i read or heard somewhere enough was made to push for a sequel. Like to know for sure lol.

In the past five or so years, I've loved bad movies that everyone seemed to hate with a passion.

Speed Racer
Green Lantern
Transcendence
Blackhat
Jupiter Ascending
Terminator: Genisys

Seriously... I own all of these movies and watch them on a regular basis, haha. I don't even mind sharing that. Screw it.

They were expecting much bigger numbers than than $440 million, that much is for certain.
That's what people fail to understand when looking at boxoffice numbers. Even if the numbers are green, a disappointment is a disappointment, if it's supposed to make bigger numbers. Hollywood executives are not doing movies 'cause they love art, they don't make a Terminator movies 'cause they love the saga and want more movies as long as they don't lose money. They are in the business of making money, and if they bargain U$S 150M, is because they expect to get back a lot more. If they just get the money back or a small profit, they wasted time. They could have put those U$S 150M on some other project and score a bigger profit.

I think 440 million would have been okay...if 150-200mil of that had came from North America. TG is an American film, making 89 million just wasn't good enough. International numbers are becoming more and more Important but a film can't just out and out bomb here but make good numbers overseas and automatically get a sequel. We haven't gotten to that point yet. The numbers overseas were good but they weren't eye popping amazing for the genre. People talk about them as if the film made 450-500mil overseas. Also the reviews were dire and it wasn't well liked by filmgoers. Pacific Rim at least had decent reviews and some hardcore Del Toro fan support going for it.

TG and Pacific Rim fans keep pointing to the overseas numbers while ignoring the dismal North American grosses but it's obvious that the studios aren't ignoring them. I guess sequels aren't 100% impossible but I doubt they will happen.

Let's not also forget the studio only takes in a percentage of BO revenue. Like around 50% from U.S. and Canada, 35% from non-China international territories and 25% from China. Accounting for those, that's only like a few million in excess of production costs and that doesn't account for marketing.

I can't take Emilia Clarke as an action star seriously when she can't fire a gun on camera without blinking like she has the sun in her eyes.

I find that funny considering the scene in terminator 1 when arnie killed the other Sarah Connor and he blinked like a ***** when firing. HE WAS PLAYING A MACHINE! !!.

Some ppl find anything to ***** about

Some people will find the smallest things to nitpick and overlook the much bigger things readily visible to everyone else.

I just watched this movie and I came here to see you guys are on part 8. wow, I missed a lot :woot:

The internet told me that this movie was a steaming pile of garbage. But I enjoyed it.

Emilia and Jai were good. Yes, I liked Jai in this. Though I would have liked Kyle to be a bit more like the old Kyle and less lost, though I understand why they did that since his character came into a different timeline.

I could have done without John being the baddie. But my guess is they want Sarah and Kyle together w/o being locked into the baby John storyline.

The first half > last half. Really enjoyed the winks/nods to the previous films. These were my fav parts.

Terminator 1 was legitimately a good movie, one that had something to say, as well as being action packed and scary and stylistic and revolutionary for the time it came out.

The fact that you are using a small misstep in a great movie to try and prop up and defend a stale as moldy bread, crap sequel that had nothing to say, that had no innovation at all, is a joke.

Are you really trying to compare Arnold's career defining performance in Terminator 1 (that elevated his career into the mega giant action star juggernaut he was in the 80's and 90's) to Emilia Clarke's at best nothing performance?

Its not even like its completely her fault. Its not like she had the director the caliber of a mid-80's James Cameron to work with. She had *nothing* to work with. That director, and those producers, were completely inept at what they were trying to accomplish. This movie is the absolute nadir of the Terminator franchise. Rock bottom. It can't get any lower.

Terminator Genisys sucked, dude. I am sorry but it failed on its own merits. Its an embarrassment to the franchise. If you liked it, that's fine. You can like whatever you want. But don't dare compare the movie that launched the mega careers of Arnold and James Cameron to anything in Terminator Genisys. Its like trying to compare ice cream to horse manure.

This movie absolutely sucked.

In a year, where we've had amazing franchise revivals like Fury Road, Creed and The Force Awakens, there's absolutely NO excuse for garbage like Genisys or for people to apologize for it.

James Cameron created one of the greatest high concept sci-fi mythologies with Terminator, with wonderful characters. Seeing how badly Hollywood has abused Cameron's legacy and it's potential is really frustrating.

I'm just thankful the copyright will expire in a few years and the franchise can go back home where it rightfully belongs.

This is the biggest reason why I don't expect a sequel. Such a film would have to be in theaters by 2018 and there's simply too much risk of a further box office decline.

Everyone points to the US failure but Genisys also failed to surpass Salvation's 2009 gross (unadjusted) in several major countries. No reason to expect a sequel would somehow be able to reverse that trend. Not when it would need to have much less marketing behind it and a softer release date.

Didn't the studio already say they pumped the breaks on sequel plans for now?

Also Arnold Schwarzenegger is almost 70. Arnie does not have that much time left on the clock to continue convincingly playing action hero type roles.

Thank you, it boggles my mind how this is the one big franchise revival that utterly failed. As long as they keep writing bad scripts and dragging Arnold's old dead star power to the party we will continue to get poor Terminator films.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed the film lost money and sequel plans had been shelved by Paramount. Skydance tried to downplay the report but admitted filming isn't happening any time soon as originally planned.

It's the only revival that didn't understand what audiences loved about the original films.

It felt like the people who made Fury Road, Creed and The Force Awakens gave a s*** while the people who Genisys seemed like they were just trying to milk every last dime out of a franchise they didn't give a s*** about.

Admitting that filming isn't happening any time soon is definitely admitting defeat. Genisys was not a reboot so yes it should have felt like a Cameron Terminator film and it just didn't. I'm a big proponent of do something different if something is a reboot but when it is a follow up you damn well better keep it in step with the original films.

They keep getting bland ass directors for some reason.

There is no doubt it was a balatant and poorly attempted last gasp money grab at a once great franchise. The audience saw through it and all they needed to see when the trailer revealed the big plot twist about John Connor and how awful they were messing up the original and best two movies in the series.

I finally got to see this last week. Loved it. Give it a 9 out of 10. I love that it's not a sequel....it's a retelling/reboot of the original two movies.
