Michael Giacchino's Star Trek score is left for dead in an alley by this score! It's that good.

And I'm not just saying that as an Elfman fan. The man has gotten a lot of crap from people this decade. The biggest is that his scores no longer have an obvious theme. I remember when the first Spider-Man movie was released in 2002 everyone was like, "what was the theme?" Although after three movies they finally figured it out. But here he finally gives people what they want, a theme-heavy score. Although I'd argue that Spider-Man 2 and Wanted were theme-heavy as well. But this is more in your face since the theme is in almost every track. And it's an awesome one. The type of theme that Christian Bale's Batman should have gotten.

The best way to describe the score is: Planet of the Apes meets Wanted. But if you need some samples to get the idea then you can listen to them here:

No. Close, but no.

Is this thread serious? Danny Elfman is a joke. That can only write one type of music.

Right... because the new wave/rock music of Oingo Boingo is just like his amazing score work. Pfft!

You know who else only wrote one kind of music... Beethoven.
What a joke!

Anyway... I haven't heard this yet Catman... I look forward to it. The Edward Scissorhands sound track remains one of my favorite recordings (particularly during winter months) and I really loved the 89 Batman scores as well.

Though I am a little disappointed he didn't use Fiedel's theme, Elfman's score still sounds pretty damn good (then again, anything written by this guy never sucks).

Anyone who thinks Elfman's only capable of gothic, operatic material will be shut up by this.

I'm a little disappointed by how it is used in the movie. The mixer didn't give the score any breathing room. Most of the time you couldn't hear the score. There's A LOT of amazing tracks on the CD that you can't hear on the movie. Thumbs  to the Sound Mixer.

Dude I pick Elfman out of a line up any day. His music is so obvious. & I can't believe you put his name & in with the Thovenator! Are you insane!:bh:

Probably sounds like Batman.

:up::o

Probably sounds like Batman.

Elfman hasn't really done much that's sounded even remotely like Batman in well over a decade. His Wanted score sounds nothing like Batman (and the rock song he recorded for the soundtrack, for that matter, isn't even remotely like anything he did as part of Oingo Boingo for that matter).

His Score for Hellboy II was a bit more recognizable compared to his signature works, but still immensely diverse. It was playful in a totally different way compared to the stuff he's done for any of Tim Burton's films.

His Spiderman score is godlike

his Hellboy 2 score was decent, not the greatest

His Terminator Salvation score is a step up and actually pretty damn good. Not as good as his Spiderman score but not far behind either

Elfman is a genious

(go ahead nerds, bring on the hate)

Yeah, how the score was used in the actual film was underwhelming and left a lot to be desired, especially compared to how music was utilized in the first two (though I think I could pretty much say that about any aspect of Terminator Salvation, not just the score). :o

Danny Elfman is still a brilliant composer, though.

i have to disagree with the original poster
i admit i haven't heard the terminator salvation score on cd

but comparing the 2 in each movie i prefer the trek soundtrack

Hotlinking is alive and well.
