I must admit that Chris Young didn't do too bad. I was expecting worse to be honest. While it is true that most of Spider-Man 3's music was temp, unused Elfman stuff from the second film, and additional work from other composer...Young still did pretty good. The symbiote theme was good. I liked it.

HOWEVER, Elfman would have done better. That's the bottom line.

Elfman kicks Young's ass. I'm sorry.

I didn't care for his music in this one. Not really all that great. Okay, but not great.

The real question is...how much music did Young really compose?! The credits should have said:

Music by Danny Elfman
Adapted by Chris Young

Original Themes by Danny Elfman
Score by Christopher Young

And themes is the keyword. The only two themes Young composed were the symbiote/black suit and sandman. Venom didn't really have much of a theme unless you count the church scene stuff.

well honestly the opening credits kept Elfman's theme but he altered it, i wasnt really pleased with that... the dramatic themes were kool, yea ok nite

What Young did in the opening credits was combine the Spidey theme and the symbiote/black suit theme.

i know what u mean, but i meant like the intro Marvel logo, i dontk now it sounded different, i mean it has to be ... nevermind im sleeppy

Yeah, I think he got rid of the African drums.

Yes Young made some alterations to the opening titles, including the bit at the beginning with the drums, which were removed. It definitley felt odd.

The score in itself was good, but nothing on par with what Elfman accomplished and could have accomplished with this one.

thank you so much SEEN.....!!!!!! yea thast what i meant exactly, for a second i thought, dang, are the speakers kinda low or something?, like it didnt give me that impact... like with the previews 2 movies

For some reason, the speakers did sound a bit low with the showing that I attended.

Also, during the finale, where Spider-Man swings into the construction site, I felt the Spidey Theme could have been a bit louder, more pronounced, but I am not sure if that was the low speakers, or just the editing of the music in the scene.

well its kinda coincidential isnt it? yea it was probably meant to be that way ..

I thought Chris young did really good. He did cool variations of elfmans themes, and added some interesting new themes. Without elfman's themes however, his score wouldnt have been nearly as good.

I liked how the music was had a lot more presence in this movie. Sometimes, imo of course, elfmans music seems to fade into the scene. Now I dont like it when the music takes over a scene, but I like it when the music is present and known throughout the scene.

It goes BEYOND the theme. Young didn't do much original music. They also used alot of unused stuff from Spidey 2. Like Peter going to see MJ's play was unused Elfman music from Spidey 2. The scene where Aunt May gives Peter the ring was also unused Elfman music from Spidey 2.

Must be really convienent, having unused Elfman Spidey music just lying around the music studio. "Hey, let's go with that..."

It was nice to actually HEAR the unused Elfman stuff used, albiet for a different and unfortunately less calibre film.

Interesting. It seems Young was like one of those replacements who cannot express himself because he is living in the shadow of his predecessor. But at the end of they day, we all wished elfman would've come back and did the score.

Well, Young was very much working under Elfman's shadow, similiarly to how Ottman was working under Williams' shadow for SUPERMAN RETURNS.

It's not like BATMAN FOREVER where Young could do completely different themes. In this case he had to adhere to not only the musical continuity of the Spidey franchise but also take from preestablished themes that HAD to correlate to the music he was composing.

Eflman by far.

Actually...I praise Ottman's music in Superman Returns. He did a great job and wasn't really in William's shadow per say.

Did Young reuse any of his Hellraiser score for Spider-Man 3 like that piece that was used in the Doc Ock putting the tentacles on scene in Spider-Man 2?
