THR believes TS final gross will be closer to T3, rather than TDK (which is probably the best case scenario, actually. Anything around $200M is a HIT).

Yeah, that's a safe prediction. Not many movies even come near TDK money. $200 mil is still very good, as you say.

The soundtrack complaints are very distracting to me. Part of me wants to care because soundtracks do matter (to an extent), but the other part of me is "shut up about it not sounding like T1 and T2. All that matters is that the music fits THIS movie.".

Sadly I care ... can't help it.

Music/score is a massive reason the first two are such wonderful, epic movies ...

The score should 'fit' a Terminator movie ... not just 'this' movie.

If the theme is not used in this its an utter crime.

AND here come another.

Sadly, it's a so-so affair from The Hollywood Reporter.

BTW, NOBODY expects TS to do TDK numbers - do they?

At least its not a bad review. But what it reminds me of again is Begins. Some people just want more of the same crap again and again. And they are mad Arnold is not the main character? This is now the war film, not chase film. Which will take a while for people to accept I think, like it did with Begins not being Burton 2.0.

I'm glad they don't hate it though.

the variety review might be the first time I've seen the word "thingie" in a professional review...

It wasn't a glowing review. Calm down.

Uhhh it was a pretty good review. Of course a movie has it's flaws, all of em do. But they seemed happy with it. Nothing wrong with people getting excited with a positive review.

I think people need to realize this is not gonna be a jaw dropping amazing sci fi film but a good film to set up the story for a new set of trilogies.I think if people can view this in the vein of x men 1 they wont be disappointed i feel it is x men 1 with potential of a x men 2 for a sequel.

My thoughts exactly, I figure TS is a good jump point, and room for improvement. But still a good film.

exactly also i think MCG if he gets to do the sequel should get John Nolan to do the full script and not just touch it up

The NY reviewers seem to hate Christian Bale.

I'm definitely thinking around $200 million for the US gross.

The general sense seems to be that Worthington steals the show from Bale.

However, no writing credits for Jonah Nolan and Paul Haggis. McG would constantly name drop them to get credibility with the fans.

The NY reviewers seem to hate Christian Bale.

Remember when TDK came out? Most of the negative reviews were reviewers named David from New York. I think the only NY reviewers who get Bale and like his work write for the New York Times. They always give him positive reviews. The other NY publications, not so much. So, yeah, he's not going to get a lot of love from them.

That review was weird. The part where he says that he's in the minority in liking Bale's Batman? Really? I thought most reviewers and people liked his Batman? I mean, isn't that why The Dark Knight was made in the first place because of the postive reaction to his Batman in Batman Begins? I don't understand his criticism of saying Bale is too serious in TS. Was he expecting corny one liners like the ones in T3 with Arnold?

Hey. Posted this mini-review thursday night over at some terminator forums. Decided to copy/paste it over here if anyone was interested.

Now, I've had a couple days to let the movie stir around in my head now. I do appreciate the movie more now than I did when I first saw it.
I think my own expectations made it seem worse than it was.

Yes, its still a mostly mindless action movie.
But I think it is an enjoyable action movie.
I do still think it is much better than T3.
And I still think an extended cut might actually be a much better movie. McG has confirmed in interviews that 30-40 minutes REALLY ARE missing from the movie. A lot of that stuff you can even see in the TV spots and trailers.

I'd still put it behind T1 and T2, but its miles beyond T3.
If T1 is a 9 and T2 is a 9.5, then I'd give this movie an 8.
T3 gets a 6.5

If I'm around I'll answer questions for you.

Carnotaur,

Sarah's Photo:
It makes a brief appearance. It's the one from T1. Connor takes a quick look at it while listening to tapes from Sarah.
Terminator Theme:
I thought Elfman's entier score was pretty lacking. I actually love Elfman but this was dissapointing. There were only the tiniest little hints two or three times. The only blatant theme was a quick "dun dun dun, DUN DUN" when a certain terminator model reveals itself. For the most part, no terminator theme in this movie. Didnt even hear it in the credits.

Thanks for the review. Can you tell me if it's [BLACKOUT]T1 Arnie with 80's hairstyle that we'll be seeing[/BLACKOUT]? How awesome does it look? Thanks.

Well I figured this may happen. First New Yorker reviews are always negative on most big films. Like you said TDK was ripped by almost all of them. And it was a praised film. They like to feel big and do that to films. Those are the only pro reviews I just ignore all together, positive or negative.

But like I said this reminds me of BB. To me T3 proved that Arnold alone was not what made Terminator good. It was so much more. And there were some critics out there that may not see like BB TS is a completely different chapter in the Terminator saga, no longer focused on a assassin and protector with Arnold in there. And some will just always see it differently which is fine by me.

Gotta get my tickets tomorrow.

I saw those already and the nose/mouth area looked weird so I just wanted know if the final product delivers...and I also want confirmation it's [BLACKOUT]T1 Arnie complete with 80's hairstyle[/BLACKOUT] we'll be seeing.:woot:

Most of the NY reviewers are the people who rather watch The Reader 10 straight times, it's like they're being forced to see Terminator & etc.

Maybe Bale should have said "Oh Hell Naw!" a couple times. Critics seem to like it when Will Smith does it. It lightens the mood in the apocalyptic future.
