You could have stuck any schmo in Bale's place and gotten the same performance. He didn't have to emote at all. All he had to do was be stoned face and shout the whole movie. His character in Reign of Fire (who's pretty much in the same circumstances) sh**s all over his portrayal as John Connor.

I agree. his performance in reign of fire was the only thing that stood out in that film. every word he uttered in that film felt like it was from the heart and genuine. I always envisioned eric bana for an older john connor.

Wow, this isn't sounding very promising at all. I hope I enjoy it. I do enjoy crap sometimes. I hope it isn't crap though, but it's starting to smell like it.

watch the scene where he addresses the resistance to not bomb skynet in order to save reese

and then take that back.

quint said it best over at aicn. terminator salvation trying to be a terminator film is like "a high school band trying to cover led zeppelin". that and they couldn't figure out who the main character should be. when they try to focus all the attention on sam....john just stands and stares through squinted eyes.

Don't let all the negativity bring you down.

I mean look at it this way, despite post after post of negativity there are a few of us that thought it was pretty good...plus, if you look at the poll, 80% of us on these boards rated the film a 7 or higher.

Just judge the film on your own merits, simple as that.

 It was a 2 minute run of the mill speech...hardly anything noteworthy about it.

To say that he didn't have to emote is crazy. You can clearly see the pain of his father (who he hasnt even met yet) potentially dying on his face during that speech.

On many levels this movie is even more pointless than T3 was.

That's not true. T3 proved that Judgement Day was inevitable. Nothing they did in T2 or the Sarah Connor Chronicles could change that. Civilization is doomed. The only hope they had was and always shall be J.C.

It's not true because T3 hurt the franchise. T4 might be slightly pointless (it still finally depicts the future war well, and shows part of john's rise to leadership), but it's atleast painless.

A PG-13 movie of a painless post-apocalypse. There's something wrong about that. Are some humans there living in the Matrix?

Aside from language and nudity the previous movies were very much PG-13 as well.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but BOTH Empire and Total Film have given Terminator Salvation 4/5 stars, these are the 2 critics I mostly agree with and listen to, and both say the movie is great.

Why do I get the feeling that the UK critics will love this movie a lot more than the American one's have.

EDIT:Adding fuel to my UK critics loving this theory, The Daily Mirror also gave TS a positvie review.

like i said earlier in my post, i think the story and direction just needed alittle more fine tuning. it just needed an "it factor". the action was very good but action cant carry a movie, you need a story.

Hmm, I might wait for the R-rated DVD/BD.

I think some just love coming back on this thread to bash this film, your review on how horrible it was, wasnt enough?

Salvation is by far, superior to T3.

 most definately.

Did people really think Salvation was going to be better then T2? I saw someone mention that if Salvation wasn't better then T2 then they would be disappointed. I'd say that's a pretty hard task considering how amazing T2 actually is.

You cant top T1 or T2 those movies cant be touched, if you go in to Salvation expecting better your gonna let yourself down. It's not fair to go in to this movie like that anyways.

A rather positive review from www.spill.com
Overall Matinee

They said that the problems were more less the setting (Wars are not really interesting) and the script. They commended on McG doing a good job directing and their favorite part was the 3rd Act where it truly feels like a terminator film and not just some 'ol action flick

To be fair, I doubt many people were expecting this to be as good as the first 2, I certainly wasnt, yet these reviews are worrying me (though my best sources. Empire and Total Film, both gave the movie 4/5) and I will be sorely dissapointed if this doesnt top the 3rd movie (which I didnt find that bad either to be honest).

He's suppose to be the savior of mankind.....leader to all humans...a solider commanding them to risk their lives. You have to be stoned face and shout the whole time. He's not gonna act like Jesus....

It's like I said earlier some were expecting this to be as great as TDK and with that I'm sure those same people were expecting it to be as good or better than the first 2.

They are two different characters. Does anyone NOT remember Connor from T2.... The only shot of him from the future was a stone cold leader.
