No its him grabbing the Terminator franchish and just about ending it, his tirade during filming and the rumours of a fight with his parents, and a ton of interviews where he comes across as a guy who loves acting but hates any fans that smells decidely of *****ery to me.

Of course I dont know the guy but my spidey sense for these things is pretty good.

It's completely possible. There are many people who love acting but not the stuff involved in being an actor. Press, interviews etc. Same way with musicians. They love making music, but a lot of them hate the constant touring.

Bale, without a doubt comes off as a *****e. And frankly, I've known many people who have actually met him and he is decidedly gracious.

For me the initial script makes the first 3 worthless. All that protecting of John Connor, just to kill him and have someone else be John Connor? And now Skynet doesn't really want to kill us, they want to save most of us and kill the rest? And why exactly. It just sounds stupid. Blame Bale? Hell, I'm thanking Bale, because Though many don't like this movie, I think EVERYONE would be fuming at the seems at this script if it was made.

That sounds like nothing what we thought the future is like. Nothing.

How is this movie being bad, his fault?

Ive never seen Bale come off as someone who hates fans or whatever...

But Darthphere is right...Ive toured with a lot of pretty successful bands, and they'll wake up, do interviews, take care of responsibilities, do soundcheck...and on their way to eat dinner theyll call their girlfriend in the 5 free minutes they have and fans will want autographs and run up screaming. The artists never HATE the fans...but very often they HAVE to keep walking, due to time restraints or maybe just exhaustion.

It doesnt mean they are jerks...just busy/drained. None of us are at our nicest in those situations.

Because Bale, wrote, directed, executive produced, costume designed and did the makeup on Terminator Salvation.

truth

just like the poster that I quoted in my previous reply, Bale DID WHAT HE COULD to salvage this movie (in both revising the script and even accepting to be in it :woot: )

if you really disliked the film, there's no one to blame but the writers/director

I really don't know how some people do it. Imagine a press junket, you sit there in the same room for hours, and have people come in and out asking you the same questions. Jesus, I'd go crazy.

Exactly.

Bale is a fine actor but seems one who sometimes comes down with a severe case of *****ery, has anyone read rumours he has refused to do the audio commentary for TS?

http://www.parade.com/celebrity/celebrity-parade/archive/christian-bale-terminator-salvation.html

Of course its his decision and though i feel nothing could have saved TS from being an average movie
I see nothing wrong with his quote about audio commentaries. I don't agree with it, but it just seems like he's old fashioned. Before DVD's and the internet were around, you had to personally do a lot of research to find out a lot of the information you wanted to know about your favorite movies, and he's apparently in favor of that.

By the way, there are many actors and directors that refuse to do commentaries for a variety of reasons, and that does not mean they're full of themselves. There are some people that are great at doing commentaries, like Peter Jackson and Guillermo del Toro, who can make you feel like they're in the room with you, just casually talking to you about the film. And then there are others who are kind of painful to listen to. Tim Burton's a good example. He still gives you a lot of useful information in his commentaries, but there are a lot of "uuuuuh's" and "aaaaah's" and long pauses, and you can just tell that he's not really comfortable with doing commentaries. I'd probably be the same way, which is why if I were an actor or director, I wouldn't want to do a commentary, either.

Whatever. For 15 million dollars a movie I'd find the inner strength to get through the same questions over and over.:whatever: It's not like you really have to put much thought into your answers by then.

It really is like that. Plus, and this doesnt go for the major stars generally, but a lot of the interviewers are just small time bloggers, or even people doing an interview for their Myspace or something crazy like that and you wonder how they got press credentials from the publicist. It really is the same questions over and over again (which is why when Ive done interviews Ive always asked different questions...and am always thanked for giving them a change of pace). All day...boring...tedious...yet necessary work.

It really is a grind. Yes, you get money and fame and fancy parties...but there is actual exhaustive work involved.

Bale gets crap for his outburst with the DP, but I was fortunate enough to be allowed on the set of Batman Begins, which is my only experience with films at all outside of the theater, and I could definitely see how nerves get strained and your emotion could run away from you. I wasnt even working and I almost started yelling...I mean...it was my phone number and begging to Katie Holmes, but thats not the point

I pride myself on knowing a good movie when i see one, hell 95% of my movie collection consists of movies that have won numerous academy awards, & I see nothing wrong with TS. The negative attention you ppl are bringing in on this film is just shocking beyond belief to me. You all talk of how good the character moments were in T1 & T2........ahhhh mind pointing them out?. T1 had some good one's because it had to introduce the characters, once T2 came about it was just michael bay sized action wrapped in a thin cloth like plot. Hmmm another tird plot of a terminator being sent back in time, but wait!, this time one of the terminators is a good guy oooohhhhh. My point being is that as great as T1 & T2 are & deserve to be, you are all making them out to be gone with the wind & TS as a pauly Shore movie. TS had great action, it set up Connor as the badass future leader that brought the human race back from the brink & had a great arnold cameo as well as a touching story about what makes someone human. I loved it a great deal & can't wait for T5 & yes it will happen.

I'm not even going to address the craziness that is the rest of your post but plenty of terrible movies have won Academy Awards and plenty of excellent movies have never even seen a nomination. So saying that your collection is 95% Academy Award winners is not indicative of good taste. In fact, depending on which Academy Award winners we're talking about it could be indicative of bad taste.

I don't get that vibe from him at all.

He's not a "*****e" just a guy who is very intense and serious about acting. And I don't think he hates fans either. When has he said anything even remotely close to "I ****ing hate my fans"?

Nathaniel, you spider sense with Bale is for ****.

He's not a *****bag. He's a *****e for refusing to do the commentary? Are you trying to hold him against everything he does? He believes in not knowing into what makes a movie. It takes away form the magic of what's on the screen. He just doesn't wants people to guess about how it all happened.

Bale's not a *****ebag for not doing commentaries. He is a *****ebag for being a *****ebag.

Yes, because money cures all.

No. Because giving the same answers 50 or 60 times is well worth the millions of dollars their getting. I never said "money cures all!" You just gave a straw man arguement. You didn't attack what I said, but rather made an attack on an arguement you can easily win and you yourself fashioned. So that you can "knock down" the arguement you yourself just set up like you actually just won an arguement.

I'm saying I find it hard to feel bad for anyone getting payed million of dollars for doing a movie, when answering the same questions over and over is part of the job.

And you're trying to win an argument by putting words in my mouth. I never once said you should feel bad for him. I don't give a **** if you do. Fact is, try sitting in the same room for 8-10 hours and have different people ask you how your mom is doing 400 times (not 50 or 60, that's a ridiculously low number for a press junket). I'm sure you'd be climbing up the walls too. Especially if you're a guy who just wants to go and do something he loves. Not deal with all the side effects of doing something you love. Yeah, I'm sure once the check clears it's worth it, but it still has to be taxing on your mind.

If you like TS that's fine. I enjoyed for what it was. But I don't agree that you should downplay the original two to justify your review. The first two had really good character arcs with good buildups while TS was..just an action movie.

couldn't agree more

I can't force the guy to dislike the movie because it's a free world! but sometimes people online have very strong opinions and the way they back up their reviews are..out of this friggin' world.

great actors, as well as great artists of all stripes are often difficult human beings. not making excuses for anyone but its just the case sometimes. i mean picasso was a misogynistic prick, hemingway shot himself in the face, and kubrick was emotionally distant on set and often hard to work with. but they each changed the face of their respective mediums.

He just seems difficult. Like a younger Sean Penn.

And Sean Penn is pretty much the *****e of all *****es in Hollywood. Bale had no right to degrade that person like he did. It says a lot about his character.
