I say that this franchise is not dead, unlike what others in here are saying. I don't get where the hate is coming from. It's like this 'reviews' thing are becoming a sort of bandwagon. Its like when someone 'knowledgeable' of a certain franchise, in this case, Harry Knowles, says that the movie is bad, others will follow through. It's not as bad as people want it to be. Some reviews I've read were saying that the action scenes didn't compensate for the lack of human emotions,or you will not care for the characters in the film. I say that the action scenes, in a way, does compensate. I say that I do care for the characters.
I went to watching the film expecting to be bored to hell because I've already read some reviews and it turns out that I enjoy it. It's not like I enjoyed it like The Dark Knight or Trek 09. Let's just say that the word 'love' is unlike the word 'like'. Its way better than T3, and it has a lot of respects to the first two films unlike T3.
I think that maybe people just don't get what the story really is because we're following two characters here, John Connor and Marcus Wright. I would say that this is a story about Marcus set in John Connor's world, and that's why it started with Marcus. We already know too much about John's future, and like the Star Wars prequels, it just show the fans what would it be like and how it got there. And the story of Marcus Wright is just thrown in to make it more interesting.
There's a little plot hole that still bugs me, which is the capture of Kyle Reese. In the movie it was never really explained as to how and why they knew John would look for a certain Kyle Reese. Some of us here explained that Skynet gained access to Sarah Connor's files from the Pescadro medical facility, which would still make no sense because as I remember Sarah told the doctors that Kyle is a soldier from the future who would become John's father, so it makes me wonder as to why Skynet doesn't kill him. Maybe we just assumed, like John assumed (which is the way I see it) that Skynet knew who Kyle Reese is. Or maybe Skynet is just as confused like we are to the physics of time altering so they have to make sure that John Connor is killed first before terminating Reese.
My rating for this film would be 8.5 out of 10.
