I agree that the franchise isn't about Arnold. I was happy when they announced Bale as Connor because I really want this franchise to branch out from just being an Arnold franchise in the public's eyes and I figured getting one of the biggest actors at the time to play Connor was the way to do it.

Throwing in the Marcus Cyborg character before grounding the John Connor character was this films biggest mistake IMO.

Yeah, same here, although in hindsight the movie probably needed another big name to go with Bale.

Its about time we got the future war, McG just did it in the wrong way for me.

Hhhhhmmmm, not sure I agree with that, Marcus brought a bit of freshness and the unknown to the movie, I just feel they needed to flesh out his character more, they could have done more to show he has an evil streak, which would have made his threat to Connor more apparent. As it was in the movie, I actually started disliking Connor at one point because of the way he behaved towards Marcus when it was obvious he wasnt a bad guy.

so how were the DVD and BR numbers? some hoped that with good numbers there was a chance for a sequel. wouldnt happen but ok.

but how are the numbers today? are they big enough for hope?

Finally saw the movie over the weekend, it's wasn't bad, but not very good either. The movie just lacked heart. I also feel Marcus was really unneeded, plus the reveal of him being a Terminator being in the preview hurt the movie. Both this and T3 have shown that the franchise is about more than big chases and explosions though, you need to put some emotion into it. Also, they went way overboard with the "superhero force-field" allowing John Connor to survive being impaled.

Something I found out today that was interesting and funny at the same time.

Star Trek was labeled a blockbuster hit and Terminator Salvation lukewarm performance at the box office, but if you look at their world wide box office totals they are not that far part....

Terminator Salvation $372,046,055

Star Trek $385,459,120

ST made more Domestic and TS made more overseas.

Crazy huh?

the GO wants a ST sequel but they dont want a terminator sequel

Yeah, there wasnt too much difference at all, Terminator cost $50 million more to produce though and had more recognisable actors in, so it was expected to do much better.

Terminator's a bigger franchise, it's supposed to do better. Star Trek didn't have the expectation of Terminator.

The big differences. Star Trek re-energized a classic franchise. Terminator Salvation deflated one even more than it already was.

Also, Star Trek historically was not a big performer overseas. Unlike the Terminator franchise. This is actually the best Star Trek has ever performed overseas. An exciting sequel for Star Trek is poised to do even better.

Also, if Terminator Salvation made similar money at the US BO as Star Trek, people would not be balking.

As usual you are correct.

The U.S boxoffice matters more to studios because the get a bigger slice of revinue.

I don't know how many times I have to post that fact.

Man, after seeing Avatar it saddens me greatly that Cameron has no desire to go back to the franchise in it's current state.

Cameron moved on and made a new movie, a new story. At least he did something different than do ****** rehashes and sequels.

:oSo there's no salvation for the franchise. :o

:oOnly two r's proves the franchise should have stopped after T:2.:o

"Man... I don't know what the **** you just said, Little Kid, but you're special man, you reached out, and you touch a brother's heart."
