I really would have liked to have seen this story tie up its many loose ends. I still think the rushed ending of Spider-man 3 was Raimi's way of letting us know that if he had gotten to finish his story, it would have ended with Peter and Mary Jane as Mr. and Mrs. Parker, or Watson-Parker.

Raimi wanted a scene where Spider-Man apprehends “C and D-list villains” they knew “would never be used as main antagonists: Mysterio, the Shocker, the Prowler, the old school-onesie-wearing version of the Rhino.” That sounds like a fun joke, the kind we’d only get from a Sam Raimi Spider-Man film.

And the idea of this made me drool. Oy vey, I wish this could have come to fruition.

Why they back-stabbed Raimi and canceled this movie to make those two horrendous reboot movies, I'll never understand.

It's possible that if this movie was a success and they carried on making more, we might not have a Marvel Studios Spider-Man. Still I wish I could peer into a parallel universe and see this movie.

I believe we would have. It looks like they were working Raimi/Tobey's Spider-Man into the MCU at the time of it's cancellation.

Is there a source on that? First I'm hearing of it. Not sure how that would've worked in the long run.

Early drafts of Iron Man 1 mentioned that Tony Stark helped create and fund Doc Ock's tentacle/fusion experiment in Spider-Man 2.

An early draft of the script revealed Tony Stark to be the creator of Dr. Otto Octavius's tentacles from Spider-Man 2 (2004).

Obviously they were tying in the universes for the future cross-over.

Tobey and Downey would have been great together. See Tropic Thunder & Wonder Boys.

Yeah, always thought that would've been really cool. Raimi was a perfect fit for the MCU tone as well.

As much as I loved the reboot, Spider-Man 4 would've been ideal -- either with Raimi's pitch with Vulture or a soft reboot of sort with some recasting (Gyllenhaal as Peter for goodness sake) and finally utilizing The Lizard.

Thats not quite true. The writers worked with researchers to find realism with Iron Man. And these researcher's happened to also work on SM2 in regards to realism with Doc Ock. Never trust IMDB.

We worked on that movie for a year. Mandarin was the villain, we had Pepper Potts, we had Tony Stark. I’m really curious to see the movie when it comes to. We worked on it for years and ultimately New Line dragged their feet. As movies tend to go, you get a head of steam behind them, but if some of the other elements don’t click in, it goes away. That was really disheartening. When we’re doing the show, we only work on one movie a year, except for this year. But we really love the guys at Marvel. It was very cool. We worked with Michael Crichton’s researchers to find a grounded realistic way to deal with the suit. The idea was he needed the suit to stay alive. He’s the same guy we used with SPIDER-MAN 2 to come up with Dock Ock’s inhibitor chips and what the arms are made of and how they work. The thing about Michael Crichton is, it’s real, real, real and then fantasy. So he tries to keep the bridge between reality and fantasy, you only get one buy. I think with IRON MAN, we had a really good way to do the suit and a very modern way to tell the story. Madarin was an Indonesian terrorist who masqueraded as a rich playboy who Tony knew. I think we had a really good contemporary take on the material.

The Bootleg Universe needs to get Bruce Campbell and make that Mysterio scene happen.

I actually hate the idea of Tony Stark creating Ock's tentacles, but I'm glad that notion is probably not real due to how IMDB can be misleading.

Youtube channel Cutshort made a great video about the movie. The Untold Story of Sam Raimi's Cancelled Spider-Man 4:

I'm still sad that Spider-Man 4 didn't happen. They should have made SM4 and SM5 instead of those bad TASM movies.

Yeah, I wasn't satisfied with a Tobey trilogy, I wanted at least six films.
