Who would you list as the 10 best characters from a Whedonverse show? From either Buffy, Angel, or Firefly.

Never watched Angel, but top characters would be Wash and Oz, from Firefly and Buffy, respectively.

1.Buffy
2.Xander
3.Willow
4.Giles
5.Spike
6.Oz
7.Angel
8.Cordelia
9.Fred
10.Faith

1. Angel
2. Spike
3. Wes
4. Buffy
5. Giles
6. Faith
7. The Demon
8. Xander
9. Gunn
10. Oz

1. Spike. Started out as a punk rocker thug. As the series progressed, they added layers and layers of complexity to the character.

2. Captain Malcome Reynolds. Like Spike, he;s very complex. Always stradling the line between really nice bad guy and really mean good guy. Plus, he's funny.

3. The Operative. He's not really a bad guy. He's a good guy who's willing to kill innocent people if he feels the result justifies it. That's a good deal scarying than anyone who's truely malevolant.

4. Angel. He's the noble hero who, deep down, is a sadistic mass murderer. That's a very interesting angle.

5. Xander. Who doesn't love Xander?

6. Buffy. She's the normal person's person's perspective in a crazy ass world. She never really wanted to be a hero, but the responsability was forced upon her. And, she grew into the role.

7. Lorn. He's fun. He's funny. He's witty. He's just a really good character.

8. Jayne. The man simply cannot do the right thing. There are almost no redeeming qualities to him as a human being. But he's still a fun character.

9. The Mayor. A villain who seems like a regular person. He's nice, clean, polite, and seems like a typical father fgigure, if not a tad eccentric. But he has an agenda and a darkness to him.

10. Niska. He seems like a nice old grand dad. He's a sadistic mob boss. That's just interesting.

Any list without Wesley on it is appalling. He's by far the best developed character in any of Whedon's shows.

Oh yeah. Forgot about Wesley. Although, I must say. Spike is alsom a very well develoiped character.

Yeah, Spike really is too. I just never liked his whole "Buffy's lapdog" phase he went through...

In no order:

Spike
Angel
Faith
Mal Reynolds
River
Wesley
Xander
Oz
Kaylee
Wash

I guess. But then, it's been shown that his whole tough, punk rocker bad boy image is just something he constructed to hide the romantic, mildly pathetic nerd he really is. So, his obsession with Buffy kind of made sense there.

In the order I thought of them...

1. Joyce Summers
2. Puppet Angel
3. Doyle
4. Pike (Luke Perry's character in the Buffy movie)
5. The Mayor
6. Glory
7. Giles
8. Xander
9. Anya
10. Spike & Drusilla as a couple

Spike
Angellus
Willow
Tara
Jayne
Xander
Wash
Anya
Mal
Giles when he's in his Ripper persona
and Wesley...I know that's 11 but f**k you it's too much of a limit

1. Spike - Come on who doesn't love Spike, the bad Birtish accent, the face scar, his banter with Angel you can't help but not like him.

2. Mal - He treads the line between good and bad so well, their's always a conflict to him.

3. Angel - He had such a level of complexity, he's always trying to hide what he is deep down and redem hisself

4. Xander - Saddly over looked post-season 3, while you could just label him the funny one his conflicts with the other character's and his bad choices make him one of the best in Buffy.

5. Angellus - He's the series best villian, the guy was just sadistic in everything he did.

6. Buffy - She just wanted a normal life, but could never get that feeling, she tried to hide from who she was, but fate would always lead her back

7. Illyria - Fred in body, mind... not so much

8. Giles - The father figure and a great one I might add. One of main reason's I dislike season's 6 and 7 of Buffy is because of his absance.

9. Jayne - He shouldn't be on the list really when you think back it, the character is your basic grunt, but he has such a likeable side you can't help me like him

10. Gunn - Over series he grew less and less badass, but at the start he was the defintion.

Wesley definitely tops the list. I'd have to think about the rest though.

Only show I watched by Whedon was "Firefly", so I'll just say Capt. Reynolds, Wash, Jayne, Book... Basically the crew of Serenity.

I don't really think you can call them two different characters. Angelus is Angel and Angel is Angelus. They're both the two sides of the mind of a young Irishman named Liam that was fractured by a life of disapointment and abuse and the confusing and entoxicating experiance of becoming a vampire. Angelus is the darkness that Liam struggled with his entire life and Angel struggles with to this day. It's the little voice in his head that says "hey, wouldn't it be fun to snap the neck of that chick standing in front of me?" Everyone's got it. It's just, with Angel, that voice is alot louder.

1. Wesley
2. Giles
3. Faith
4. Oz
5. Angel
6. Spike
7. Lorne
8. Cordelia
9. Lilah
10. The Mayor

I think you can, if you look past the whole psychological aspect you just summed up. The mannerisms etc. between the two are very different. They basically denote two versions of the same character, but they are wildly different from each other in the way they act. That makes them discernable enough in some people's eyes to warrant a seperate mention on their lists.

Saying that Angelus and Angel are two different characters is like saying Harmony was a different character after being turned. Same character. New condition.

Harmony however didn't change one iota in her mannerisms and attitude. I think the whole change in personality between Angel and Angelus warrants them being able to be on the list simultanousley.

I agree.

Anya,Oz,Fred,Faith,Buffy,Lilah,Mayor Wilkins,The Master,Cordelia,Giles,and Angelus.

Damn, I totally forgot Oz.

I think it's best to consider them seperate character's, the best example of it being season 4's Orpheus.

which was awful, because they really shouldn't be separate entities.

Well, they're seperate, but in the way two personalities of someone with dissociative identity disorder are seperate. They're two halves of a fractured mind. It's like saying Two Face and Harvey Dent are two different characters.
