The \8/ and the \S/

While technically not an \S/ or \8/, I just noticed these paint colors when I rewatched Asylum last night:

I highly doubt the colours were meant to be connected to Superman.

Yellow, blue and red are the three primary colours. If you mixed those properly, you can get any other colour in existence but that takes practice and colour-mixing knowledge (or a colour wheel). My Colour Theory made us use black, white, red, yellow and blue gouache (and no other) all semester to get used to mixing them.

Mmmm... I think they knew *exactly* what they were doing when they chose those three particular colors. They do it all the time...

It's yet another Superman tease for the audience ala Smallville. :D

If we really bring those colors in to play every flannel shirt clark has worn would appear. They know the colors are a tease.

No doubt, but some teases are more overt than others. When the camera pans over objects that are specifically shown to be red, blue and yellow, it's painfully obvious. And we don't even have to SEE the colors. In Red, Jesse asks Lana who the stud in primary colors is (referring to Clark, of course.) Clark wasn't even wearing his bright blue shirt in that scene - it was the lighter blue one, and black jeans. That's it. So why'd Jessie say "primary colors?" Hee! It's silly, but it's just more of a tease through dialog.

I completly agree.

If we look at the use (or occasional over use) of items from the Superman mythos, I believe that colors and any reference to them would prove to be the most abundant used by the show. Even more so that the \S/ or \8/, or angelic symbols.

Visually, I bet you're right. But I think the plethora of overt references has been in the dialog. They didn't waste any time with that either. One of the most descriptive synopsis of the entire show was in two lines of actual dialog from the Pilot:

Lana: What are you, man or superman?
Clark: I haven't figured it out yet.

Brilliant! :D

Yes I do concede that those references most people would catch are in the dialogue. However, when comparing the # of times a reference comes up in dialogue vs the # of visual references, I think there are a larger # of subtle/subliminal visual references like color, because in every shot there is something red, blue or yellow. Really how many times have we seen Clark w/o at least one of these colors, and I'll even discount the appearance of blue jeans.

BTW, way to work in the word plethora. Large vocabulary isn't exactly something usually in abundance on message boards.

Okay. Ya got a point there. :D

LOL! And I wasn't even trying. If I was trying, I'd say the use of red, blue and yellow in SV is ubiquitous.

We be silly now. LOL!! ;)

Pat's overuse of vocabulary is what makes her so funny, err uhhh "mirthful" right? ;)

Not S related but when Clark saves Lex from the caraccident on the bridge he wears a towel in red color.

As he goes away with Jonathan i must think of Superman's cape...!!!

I love it when they hint at the cape. The sequence near the end of Talisman was one of the best so far. The set colors and lighting were extraordinary, and when Clark runs off leaving the red cape... err... blanket fluttering behind him, I couldn't stop smiling...

Notice the red, blue and yellow here...

Then there was the scene in Crusade. Now THAT one was simply beautiful...

I didn't know you were a SV fan, Joey. Interesting... and it'll be on in an hour and a half :D.

No. I IM'd you earlier, and you didn't reply. Then I saw this in my subscribed threads, saw that you posted, and IM'd you again. Thus, the 'BS. You just posted'.

You haven't been perusing too many of my missives, then have you?

:D

(My proudest moment as a parent was when my 12 year old son's teacher was amazed at the size of his vocabulary.... ;) :p )

Noticed some more \S/hields while rewatching "Crusade" on DVD:

I admit that the significance of him wearing the number 8 on the jersey totally slipped by me.

From Spell:

More of an 'X' than an \S/, but still:

This one's hard to see, but there's definitely a shield in the center of the spellbook:
