I have one aswell. Haven't been able to translate what it says on it tho. Any ideas?

I think it's only appropriate that this shot be in this thread.

There is no real explanation for the \8/ except for the one instance that when Jor-El first appears to Clark, Jor-El brands the \8/ into Clark's chest, saying "This is to remind you of who you are." Bit I think he meant the brand, not the symbol.

When Clark meets Jor-El's assistant, Raya, in the Phantom Zone, Raya shows Clark the crystal, in the shape of the \S/, that Jor-El gave her before sending her to the Phantom Zone to protect her from the destruction of Krypton. Raya says "He still protects me every day." The \S/ gradually becomes known as the symbol, or shield, of the House of El, and as such it is appropriate to be worn by both Clark and Kara.

The fact that both exist on the show for essentially the same purpose is just symbolism and metaphor. Don't read too muchc into it.

so ive seen every episode of smallvill and i for the life of me cant remember the episode where the purpose and meaning of \8/ is explained. and i cant remeber what it means ether.....any help?

The \8/ was used in the first seasons because they were not allowed to use the \S/ symbol yet.

Not to mention that \8/ is the symbol on the Crystal of Air, and the Kryptonian symbol for S. I also think they said that the \8/ was the ancient Mark of El and at a later point the family changed it.
