The All Encompassing AQUAMAN Movie Thread - Part 6

Some of the reactions have used LOTR as a comparison. Also, I mean, just look at the trailers, it definitely evokes that similar look and feel. I'm sure there's going to be a good dose humor throughout to get people laughing but no where near the relentless comedy of Ragnarok.

I must say that the reactions to this are very positive. There are some tweets who describe certain scenes as too goofy or bad or weak, but apart from that, it looks to be a crowd pleasing movie.

Also, I'm a bit worried (not for Aquaman movie) that Critics constantly refer to comic book movies not taking itself "too seriously" as a desirable attribute. I mean cbm's should be allowed to be whatever they want to be, depending on the story they want to tell, whether it's an adventure-fantasy or a noir crime thriller or or a kids movie.

I wonder how those Critics (who prefer cbm's to be goofy and fun) will react to Joker movie and 'R' - rated Birds of Prey movie.

critics are weird films like logan gets praised for its serious bleak tone and other gets bashed for it lol

Joker will be looked at differently because it is just a different style made by different people telling a different type of tale. That move SHOULD take itself seriously. Aquaman should not. It is why some people feel the Snyder films are joyless they spend so much time worried about what being a hero means they never get to see the fun that exists when you actually are a hero.

In that case, why emphasis is on comic book movies that don't take themselves too seriously mentioned as something they want ?
Because those are the contemporaries to the movies they're reviewing. They're "the competition." Critics have proven on multiple occasions that they're down for dark or "serious" superhero/genre stories if they're told well. The bleak tone only ever stands out as a negative when it doesn't feel justified/earned by other elements.

The behind-the-scenes video of Momoa's press tour is the coolest thing. The guy geeking out over the big hotel room and private plane. He makes it easy to root for him.

All I'm saying is that there should be enough room for different types of comic book movies or it gets repetitive, and critics and fans should see it as a positive sign instead of insisting that all comic book movies should follow a fixed approach.

Sometimes I think Momoa is just too simple a man to exist in a pretentious Hollywood system.

From what I have seen in trailers, clips, I think the chemistry between Heard and Momoa is one of the plus points of the movie, I dunno why some Critics think it's one of the issues of this film. People having issues with the dialogue is something I can understand tho.

Even the criticisms get me juiced up. Since there doesnt seem to be a consensus about what is a problem that tells me that overall everything works and it just comes down to the taste of the viewer. Cant complain about that too much :)

This movie is going to make a ton of cash!

And the headline that makes me smile the most:

I dont care I FRIGGIN LOVE MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE!!

Eh Maybe with his tweet:

Seriously doubt it's Ragnarok level of weird/out there, guys. Seems like hyperbole, it's probably just due to the really colorful palette and it might be a little lighter than Wonder Woman. Can't see them going full-on comedy with Aquaman, it'll be funny under Wan but it's not gonna be full-on wink-wink Taika.

Wan has his own style and it's very different from Taika's. I don't expect Aquaman to be like Thor : Ragnarok.

The pain just deepens. Boxing day for the land down under.

Seriously the thought of flying to south east asia has crossed my mind lol.

Aquaman has interesting star cast - Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Nicole Kidman, Patrick Wilson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Willem Dafoe, Dolph Lundgren, Djimon Hounsou,Temuera Morrison, Graham McTavish, Ludi Lin, Randall Park and Julie Andrews (voice).

Music by Rupert Gregson-Williams (Wonder Woman, Hacksaw Ridge)

Cinematography by Don Burgess (Conjuring 2, Source Code, Forrest Gump, Cast Away, Spider-Man (2002))
