The All New and Improved Batman Reboot Casting Thread

Has he said anything about Catwoman?
nah. I didn't even know i was subscribed to his patreon, but I pledged a dollar last month when I read somewhere he said Pattman was in the running on his patreon. It should be noted, he had Aaron Johnson and Nic Hoult as his two candidates, with no mention of Pattinson - so there is a chance we may escape Gad. I'd take skinny Nic Hoult Penguin over Gad Penguin, even though the former is much better suited for the Riddler

Gad has been teasing it for two years and hes friends with Reeves. If there was any chanve someone else would get the part, chances are Matt Reeves would've asked him to stop it. For all intents and purposes I think it's safe to say that Reeves wants Gad and has envisioned him in the role all this time, Hoult is probably a studio thing as they'd want someone with his social media following in the movie.
By the same token, if Gad was seriously up for the part, both Reeves and WB would've told him to stop teasing it on social media. The fact that he has been doing this for nearly two years now leads me to believe that he's just goofing.

Why would they be secretive about the casting of freaking Penguin? Maybe he's not officially signed on yet but I'd bet good money Reeves DEFINITELY wants him.

Also, I'm not entirely sure that campaigning for a role in social media immediately disqualifies you. I think it's just a case of confusing correlation for causation.

Tyrese Gibson didn't get Green Lantern because a Green Lantern movie wasn't even in the works.

Hoult and Pattinson are both great actors, so Gad would be a step down in terms of casting.

You'll have to point me to another example of an actor teasing a role for 2 years and actually getting it, because I'm drawing a blank on one.

To be clear, I'm not saying Gad couldn't get the role. Anything can happen. But in my experience with following movie productions, studios try to control the flow of information as best they can. I feel like if Gad was in serious discussions, they would have shut that **** down on Twitter early on.

I’d be surprised if it’s Gad. Nothing against him, but...well, Boom already said it.

There's so many more interesting actors out there for villain roles than Hoult right now.

I think we can all agree that God/The Universe was incredibly inconsiderate to all of us Batman fans by taking Philip Seymour Hoffman away from us before he had the chance to play the Penguin. RIP.

Yes, that's the real reason his death was tragic.

Yeah, I like him, but I certainly don't see him as the Penguin. Skinny Penguin on Gotham was fun, but I feel like Hoult would just be a repeat of that take. Conleth Hill, Jack Black or Cameron Britton would all be better options.

Hoult would make more sense as Riddler, but I honestly can't think of a role he would excite me in at this point.

I'm open to a thin Penguin, but if they're going to do that I'd like someone that has sharper features. Bird-like nose and all that.

Anyway, here's a suggestion I know you'll all hate. Granted, I've only ever seen him on comedic roles so he's a gamble. But I imagine him playing Penguin in a similar vein as Gus Fring from Breaking Bad.

Isn’t that the guy from Community?

Hmm. Wouldn’t hate it. He could definitely bring the creep factor, but I don’t know if I could buy him as a sophisticated, behind-the-scenes mastermind of the Gotham underworld.

When Jeffrey Wright inevitably joins the cast of a DC or Marvel film, I just hope his talents aren’t wasted. He deserves a meaty role. I’d love to see him as Brainiac or Martian Manhunter. He’d be a great Jim Gordon though.

Wright could be the Penguin too. Get away from his stoic roles. Get some Shaft / Boardwalk Empire energy up there.
