If Joker is played by a woman, don’t write the character any different. Just let them be androgynous. You don’t even have to call them ‘he’ just ‘The Joker’. So it wouldn’t be a female Joker at all. Toni Collette with a subtle voice-deepening effect in post would be so unsettling as Joker.

It would be like Blanchett in the Bob Dylan movie. I don’t think it would be hard for fans or audiences to grasp that a female actress is playing an androgynous or male character. Just look at Peter Pan.

For the record, Joker is one of very few major comic book characters that I think could survive a gender change in the movies. For obvious reasons, Batman for example would just not work if played by a woman.

Meanwhile, in something like ASHOSE, Joker displays a number of feminine traits and an ambiguous sexuality. One of the only big characters that wouldn’t be too unaffected by a change like this

It’s still a no for me bc Toni’s too old (her age fits DCEU Joker better). Moss works better. But I’m certain if it’s not Barry, it’ll be a Rami Malek or Kieran Culkin or Harry Melling.

As much as I dislike his Freddie Mercury impression or him as a detective...I do like him in other things. If he can use that calm and slight flamboyance...it could work well. They just need to alter his face a bit. In 2019 he was the hottest prize for a JOKER casting. He was free for most of the 2020 shoot and was living in London. Plus, his obvious chemistry with Rob makes him a contender despite how we feel.
