They have different strengths. Webb is a livelier actor's director. Being able to bring out genuine and heartfelt performances out of his actors.

Raimi is more ...operatic in that regard. But his cinematic senses are far more sharp than Webb in everything else. Raimi can mount the tension and up the stakes far better, for example. His background in horror served him really well. He also has a keen eye for story structure and character arcs. Nothing is amiss.

In fact, Webb simply cannot reconcile his penchant for natural performances with the more hokey comic booky aspects. The result is a confused, often tone deaf affair. Jon Favreau was much more successful in delivering a film with down to earth and natural performances in conjunction with the over the topness of comic book tropes.

Spider-Man 2 was a nature progression from Spider-Man 1. What we are looking for is a change. An uptick in quality. The chances of that happening with the same director in 2 years has got to be low, especially after what happened between TASM and TASM 2.

Exactly. Especially with the studio interference people keep pointing out Sony has been making, especially with this film. You think in trying to grow the Spidey-verse, they will simply not be as involved? Or, will they try and force AS MUCH AS THEY CAN! Like, you know...they have. Since SM3.

TWS is a perfect example of this as well.

I do wonder how they don't do the Sinister Six in the next film. The general reaction around here seems to be that they will be holding off on them, but my question is how after the end of TASM 2. The studio decision with TASM 2 almost force it.

You would think general audiences would be expecting the big team up in the next film. I wonder how that effects the box office for both films really.

It's funny, Sony is now acting like Fox under Rothman (and WB in the 90's) in the characteristics with which they are handling their properties. While Fox has impressed with how they left the directors alone in First Class and The Wolverine. Singer seems to be delivering his own vision with Future past as well. Having faith in a director's intent goes a long way.

I think Sinister Six come next film, also. I don't see them waiting. So, Oscorp can put their plans of spending billions making man-animal abominations of science with garish outfits a reality!

To be fair they didn't seem to interfere with Webb either
What? Of course they interfered with Webb (and the writers of the film)! Why else would there be such a strong, forced Sinister Six set-up in this film?

They did not leave the director alone with First Class or TW. They rushed Vaughn like crazy, and studio restraints are the "real" reason Aronofsky left The Wolverine. But they seemed to let Singer do his thing.

Sony is weird, because they want the box office, but they just can't stop getting in their own way. It is like they don't understand what Feige does at Marvel. Like they don't understand what the box office returns and reviews mean.

Electro can form a black Supervillian suit. What does that have to do with Electricity powers?

It has to do with....science?

I actually thought that also, lol! I know they can't have Electro be naked (like Dr. Manhattan) but I did laugh when he reformed to reveal dark blue underwear! From science! :oldrazz:

Oh yeah, him still having clothing on when forming again reminded me of the 80s Hulk cartoon.

So bad.

To be fair, I did not get the feeling that all Marvel Studio films are kind to their directors. I felt heavy studio influence in IM2, and some in Thor 2. With Feige, I guess it depends on how much he believes in a director's vision. Because Iron man 3, man, I don't think I have seen a comic book film with more of a director's stamp since Batman Returns.

You can see where Sony is coming from though, Sinister Six & Venom make sense if they want to diversify the brand, it just kinda screams "PANIC ON BOARD". Fox with X-Men has plenty of superheroes, plenty of possibilities of spin off, Marvel is the king, WB has DC & plenty of possibilities as well.

Sony have......just Spider-Man. But they're gonna do their damndest to hold on to it.

@Tacit: yeah, IM3 is so Shane Black all the way and that was refreshing. Thor TDW though just strikes me as very "yes man", I'd have thought Taylor would have brought more personality but I don't know, he seems more like a yes man, curious to see how he's gonna do on Terminator Genesis.

The strongest parts of these films is the chemistry between Garfield and Stone and now Gwen is gone.

Yeah I don't want to see Jamie Foxx's wang but it's still funny.

Oh yes they did. They had him make "TDK" then decided they needed "The Avengers".

Then during post-production, they added all the Sinister Six stuff to TASM 2. Too the point that they changed plot points, and character intentions in post. They made things Webb and DeHaan said wrong. That is how much it changed.

That isn't what I am saying. Feige does have an overall control, and when the studio feels like they have "messed up" with a production, they take over. IM2 and TDW are two real examples. They also apparently had a heavy had with TIH and the cut released to the public.

But when Feige trust the vision of a project, he lets the director have his way. IM, Thor, TFA, IM3, TWS, and GotG all look and act like they belong to their directors.

Norman Osborn was truly a man with a vision :oldrazz:

Yep. They wanted TDK...then The Avengers...then to set-up Ocean's Eleven! An EVIL Ocean's Eleven! :argh:

Meddling or not (and probably quite a bit), I still find that it's pretty impressive (at least for those who like the movie) that he manages to pull this off the way he does.
