Through Thursday, 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' has already grossed $340 million overseas

Total Lifetime Grosses
Domestic: $110,700,722 24.6%
+ Foreign: $340,000,000 75.4%
= Worldwide: $450,700,722

Given how quickly it's reached this figure isn' it safe to assume that the total will be somewhere just south of double that? Or no?
I assume spidey was released intl a good while ago?

No, it won't come near $900m, $800m is too high. It's been out three to four weeks in most Int'l markets. China is the only main new one. $550m O/S is I think the best case scenario and it will have to start to show some legs to reach $225 domestic.

Not sure how mothers would react watching TASM2 seeing how Peter kind of obsesses over his father and doesn't seem to care about his mom all that much :oldrazz:

Very true... Mother's never get any love in comic book movies. The heroes are always obsessed with their Dads.

'Neighbors' Edging 'Amazing Spider-Man 2' with $45 Million Opening Weekend

More than one site is predicting Neighbors over TASM2 it seems.

Although... if TASM2 manages to hit $40 million this weekend, it'll be in decent shape.

Yeah. The importance is it's how much it makes more than is number standing.

It's best to be number 3 and make 42M than be number 1 and only rake in 35M.

Webb didn't set out to make a mediocre film. Snyder didn't either with MOS. Or the director of GL.

I'm pretty sure Campbell would have been glad if he produced a mediocre GL film. He didn't quite reach that high. :woot:

Yes. I still believe 800 million is a lock. 850-900 million will be a challenge.

Little chance it can double. It has been out OS for quite awhile now and this weekend is its real last chance to make a splash before the other blockbusters start taking the lion share. Still looking at something around $750m WW and quite possibly less. The domestic numbers are not promising.

Based on?

It won't sniff 800. The international numbers are going to get hit hard due to other releases and the fact it has been out in many foreign territories for 3 or 4 weeks. Won't make enough by this point to do that type of business.

Yeah I don't know about 800 million but 700 is a lock right? The movie is at 450 right now and should get around 100 million more USA maybe a little more and didn't the movie just came out in china? So that could be 100 million so that would be 200 million more putting it at 650 and with the other places having probly a few more weeks with the movie it should be able to make onther 50 to get to 700.

Those numbers sound right to me.

Yeah, just repeat what I said. :o

When three quarters of a billion dollars is a disappointment, it's time to look over how you spend your money.

Deadline's early Friday and Weekend estimates:

2). The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (SONY) 4,324 theaters (0) / $10.1M Fri. / 3-day cume: $37M to $38M (-59%) / Total cume: $147.8M / Wk 2

This would be on par with Spider-Man 3 which dropped 72% on his second friday and 60% for the whole weekend.

Normally I would scoff at anyone who thought $700m+ was a disappointment but when $700m+ is barely breaking even territory serious questions have to be asked about the financing of these films. It was either Spielberg or Lucas who said recently one of these big blockbuster movies is going to bomb hard. We seem to be getting closer to that stage given the budgets of movies in recent years.

While when 700 million is 100 million or so less then movies that came out 12,10 and 7 years ago with out 3d it is a big dissapotment. I think by the end of next sunday the 18th we will know a lot more has the movie will have been out for 2 weeks in the USA and the compition will be starting to come with Godzilla and xmen the week after that and the movie will have been out for about a month ever where but china and usa I think so that means almost all of it money other then china and usa will have probly been made already.

I'll be happy with 700 million
But that would be horrible for the studio.

The financing is fine. The problem here is the film.

This happens every year. Look at John Carter, the Lone Ranger, Green Lantern, so on and so forth. Life goes on.

It that the movie keep making less and less that is the problem. When you spend this kind of money to make a movie you don't want the movie to make less and less everone.

Which is why you make better and/or more appealing films.
