70% drop from Friday to Friday may not be as horrible as it sounds, since last Friday's gross factored in midnight showings from Thursday.

That being said, it's still not lighting the domestic box office on fire.

It's not all that unheard of for lots of successful films. Especially if they encounter strong opening competition. TWS had like a 67/68% day to day.

In box office news, Neighbors is doing very well overseas as well. Though I see that Deadline did not mention Rose Byrne's origins when discussing the success in Australia.

16 markets as #1, including UK and Australia. Haven't seen TASM 2 numbers yet, but if TASM2 is already this far down the pecking order less then a month in release, the next couple of weeks are not going to be kind even Internationally. I now do wonder if it will get to $500m OS. BOM has it listed at $340m as of 5/8.

I hate to be fair to TASM 2 but...to be fair that R rated comedy is going to open with 47-50mil. Spidey would have had to have opened with around 120mil to have had a shot at the number one slot.

It's probably varied.
I'm sure none of the above had ever held off against a 50 million dollar new film with fresh reviews however. The first one probably could have if it faced such a thing.

Spider-Man: 2 weeks (broke the record for highest third week, but lost the week to the new Star Wars)
Spider-Man 2: 2 weeks
Spider-Man 3: 2 weeks
TASM: 1 week

TASM 2's position would matter more to me if Neighbors wasn't such a comedy juggernaut during it's opening weekend. If Neighbors was number one with 36 or 37mil, I'd care more.

So I guess 2 weeks is standard...for some reason I thought it'd be longer...but those movies fell to other blockbuster flicks. ASM2 is in a more saturated market I suppose, but Seth Rogen? Could Seth Rogen comedy have unseated any of Raimi's films in second week?

I think the problem is Neighbors very well could have been #1 this weekend with $37m. Also Neighbors, which I loved by the way, is getting a boost because TASM 2 isn't tough competition. The Great Gatsby did very well in IM3's second week last year. IM3 still held #1 even with a massive week to week drop.

if you look though this is only the second weekend and the movie is probly going to make around 37 million or so where spider man 1 in its 3erd week made about 45 million so 8 million more a week later and with out 3d and being 12 years. Spider man 2 in its 3erd weekend made just under 25 million can we match that next week? That would only be like a 33% drop form this weekend to next. spider man 3 made about 29 million in its 3erd weekend.
