These street villains simply aren't going to get it done at the box office. Did Origins or Wolverine become lucrative with a more grounded approach? Right now, Sony is at a point of no return. They can't all of a sudden start scaling back after providing such a spectacle filled, visual universe. It doesn't work. Only a heavy hitter like Ock with a team will garner some casual interest again from a villain standpoint. Frankly, Parker's personal life is getting boring and redundant, and that's a glaring issue now.
If Sony were smart, I'd give the street elements to Marvel in exchange for movie elements. Have the Bugle in DD along with a Jameson. Let Garfield do some cameos. Get Blade and Punisher back in the mix along with the Spidey universe. Then get these elements on film in a Sony produced picture. Spidey needs help, and I don't think Sony has enough brand name characters in their stable to provide that.
Couldn't agree more Mr.M.
I don't know how anybody would think after the spectacle of villains and the setup we got in this film that all of a sudden we go with Kingpin/Tombstone/Silverman and a gang war. And other aspects like Spidey getting the black suit is just a freaking retread. U can't do things that they have done before because audiences don't want to see that. They basically left ASM2 on a cliffhanger.
They have got to go one with this sinister six approach as well as give Spidey some allies himself. Give it an epic feel. There really is no where else to go with this franchise that will up the stakes of a third film.
