They've actually got a fair bit of history together, despite being so different. I'd be all for the good doctor helping Spidey against the S6 someday just so Sandman could legitimately yell, "**** you, magic tricks!" It's a fantastic line, and you get an F-bomb in a PG-13 film.

They aren't shelving him. If this report is true (and it likely is considering Da7e is the source), he'll be in IW Part 1; likely having a large role alongside Strange and BP.

And he will most likely have a cameo in Civil War setting ul his full fledged appearance in IW.

Just because he's not getting his own film, doesnt mean he's shelved.

I have my doubts about being 2018 being the first year we see Spidey in the MCU. Something tells me that he will debut sooner. If there's one thing Marvel Studios does well, is that they introduce characters that will appear in later movies. Nick Fury, Coulson, Black Widow, Maria Hill, Falcon and Black Panther are among the characters introduced (or will be in the case of BP) in the other MCU movies, only to return for multiple films later on.
