Look at GOTG. The WOM kicked a**, and so did it's box office... Relatively speaking of course. Had TASM 2 had that kind of buzz, the movie would have crossed 1B easily.

Marvel's got the strategy down, put out quality movies, and let other countries see them first. The hype becomes enormous.

I actually liked the Ang Lee version UNTIL the third act/last battle. For me anyways, that's when it fell apart and lost its way.

Agreed, but even when it loses its way it is still a beautiful movie especially when Hulk is silhouetted against the clouds and lightning.

So I had myself a MCU marathon over the weekend and saw something interesting in my watch that I think could happen in Marvel's Spider-Man(if it ever happens).

The Spider-Bite as the opening scene.

In Iron Man, the first thing we see is Stark with the soldiers. This of course is just a flash forward scene as we then see the events leading up to it later on.

In Captain America: TFA, they show a flash forward scene of a group of scientists finding him and his shield.

In Thor, they show a flashback of Odin's fight against the Frost Giants. This of course was apart of the plot later on.

In Guardians Of The Galaxy, they show a flashback of Peter and how he is abducted by the Ravagers.

So you see, there's always an opening scene that they do very quickly. I'm wondering if they do something like this, and it would be the Spider-Bite? This is just a theory on my part. They could always do something different.

The second thing that I noticed, was that a main character was presumed to be dead.

Iron Man after the Arc Reactor blew.
Captain America after he crashed the ship into the ice.
Thor after he confronted the Destroyer.
Hulk after he fell from the plane
Groot after he sacrificed himself.

So I'm wondering if we'll get something like this in a Spider-Man movie. These are just a couple of theories on my part. What do you guys think?

They tried too hard with the quipping, it didn't flow right.

The "You can call me Spidey, you can call me Amazing" almost made me face palm in the theater.

Loved that line. Can't please everyone.

For me, it's very easy to overlook the flaws in the movie just because of how deep the contrasts are, when it's bad it's bad but when it's great it's great! :woot:

That being said, at this point we need solid ground, the superhero film scene is changing

Same could be argued for the Man of Steel. It's not enough to get by with the critics these days though. They find something to chew at and they tear the entire thing apart.

There is so much ownership of Spider-Man it is going to be impossible to please everyone. First and foremost aim to make a great movie, full stop, that 'happens' to have Spider-Man rather than being fixated with Spider-Man's costume, quips and so forth. If I saw a brilliant movie but some things about Spider-Man were 'off' I would forgive a heck of a lot. Look at TDK, the costume is awful, Batman bears little resemblance to comic Batman, but who cares? TDK is a frigging masterpiece.

Great connections, I think you're on to something C3PO.

I don't think he has to be funny, but the jokes need to somewhat make sense. The "late to dinner" joke, for example, just made me go

Spidey's jokes have annoyed villains all the time in the comics. He uses it as a mechanism to frustrate his opponents. I think they had the right idea in mind, but terrible writing ruined all of the potential they had.

Exactly...They focus too much on cracking a joke, instead of an antagonizing, sarcastic remark that fit & relates to the situation at hand. Like Joe said...they tried too hard to crack a joke. That, in a way, show a lack of understanding or a feel for Spiderman side of the character, imo...and they have 5 films to get it. They never did.

I'm a long time Spider-Man reader and had no problem with it. Maybe I don't understand the material either despite reading nearly all of Spider-Man since Lee and Ditko.

Well, to each their own...I have no problem with what you are saying. In this case, we disagree; but, we are not talking about your satisfaction....but the general dislike of the majority of the quips. It has not improved with proceeding films.

For me, it isn't about 'what' is being said but HOW it is being said. C'mon now, a lot of Spider-Man's quips are pretty goofy and not all of them land. The Roger Stern run is absolute GOLD for Spidey quips as is the Lee/Ditko run (obviously). For me it about the delivery and Garfield delivers the lines with relish and aplomb, 'Not a shaker?' 'I'll take that, that's not yours', I absolutely LOVED it especially when compared to the almost dead pan way Maguire delivers 'if anyone is out Gobby, it's you'.

Also Garfield's Spider-Man delivery was a little 'off' in ASM1, but that is only natural as you can put that down to Spider-Man not being totally there as a person or as a character.

So yes, if you have a problem with what is being SAID, that is open to debate, for me it is all about the cadence and delivery and I think Garfield NAILS IT in ASM2.

I also like the shift in personality that Garfield displays, when he arrives at Times Square he is all jokey, 'Yo Sparkers!!' 'don't tell me, I know, I know it' and then when he has time to see Electro is a troubled individual the jokes stop and his tone of voice is more concerned and sincere. Each to their own but I thought Garfield was excellent as Spider-Man.

I believe for the opening scene of TASM2, it would have been nice if we heard Spidey having fun and swinging through the city the way he was. Then, when he realizes the situation at hand with the Rhino chase after listening to the NYPD transmission, he could have reverted to a more serious tone and dealt with Aleksei accordingly.

The way he's dealing with the entire situation, then going out of the way to save Max, mixed with Rhino's goofiness, made an intense chase with civilian life on the line come off as a lighthearted opening to the entire film. None of it made clear, at any point, that anyone in that sequence was actually in danger.

I agree with this, in TASM 2 it feels like he's making jokes to the audience and not the villains as if he expects people to immediatly laugh or something. Andrew was closer to Deadpool than he is to Spidey.

Great post, NYS

In regards to Spidey, I think it would be nice if they showed both the bite and Uncle Ben's death in the beginning of the film, in flashback form. I don't want to see the origin story explained any further than it has already, but I still think Peter should have additional flashbacks of Uncle Ben in his solo films.

It would not only give some screen time to whoever plays Uncle Ben, but highlight the character's significance to Peter.

you know what would be cool?

if that "spidey summit" was happening soon. that would be pretty cool.

it is happening soon-ish...January 19 or something like that...then either they keep doing this movies, reboot or give the rights back to marvel

I wish it would be in the form of a live press conference or something.

Intense, that would be. Very.

Hmm. I'm not sure how it would be announced. If it isn't a live press conference, then how would the news break?

I've read that it might be more closed-doors this time around?

Maybe it's just speculation.

Edit: A live press conference that can be viewed on the internet was what I meant in the original post.

I think that the press event a few months back showed marvel that they don't need Hall H to make high-publicity announcements, so I hope that they do something like the phase 3 announcement shortly after the deal is made.

(And they should have the event held in New York City, for obvious reasons)
