How the TASM series could have been:

If these films had that same kind of beat and aura that the theme song emitted then this franchise would have been so much more successful. I know the cartoon series has been a big influence on the films and given us a great version of Peter and Gwen's relationship but that's the only successful thing that's come out of that influence.

Sony should be upset over cutting Woodley, but if you ask me she got away clean and she's probably feeling good about it.

So, Goddard wants Spidey in the S6 film and Sony was upset about that??!! Seriously what a bunch of morons.

Venom a girl? Spider-man throwing away the black suit in a trash can because the S6 is making fun of him and then that person who finds the suit becomes Venom. Sandman is comic relief. I'm so happy that Sony's time with Spider-Man is finally coming to an end. Maybe. If the deal doesn't go through with Marvel, I am not supporting any more Sony made Spidey films. I refuse to pay for their garbage.

That's what I've been thinking about too, UWH. Even if nothing else happens with this deal, these leaks have at least solidified to us what we had been speculating for a long time: Sony has absolutely no idea what to do with this character.

I'm done giving them anymore money, and a part of me regrets buying the Blu-ray. I'm not giving a single dollar to these idiots ever again.

It's now or never for Marvel/Disney to get Spider-Man. If a big studio buys Sony almost certainly they will release their own Spider-Man movie.

While I can say sony should have done things differently with TASM2 I will always be a supporter of the first TASM movie :up:

Disney are very child friendly and I dunno if I Could see James Bond being something Disney would even want while marvel and star wars is good because there is so much you can do with these universes and each will payback the money they spent to gain the rights in first place with solo films and spin offs

Sony have a lot of different properties and honestly if I was Disney I'd be in no rush for most of them

They owned Miramax when Pulp Fiction released, mother******! :oldrazz:

Ignoring the Miramax stuff that they no longer own, though, here are some films that are (at least partially) Disney productions under the Touchstone Pictures banner:

-Pretty Woman (Rated R, it's about a prostitute)
-The Royal Tenenbaums (Rated R for some language, sexuality/nudity and drug content)
-Calendar Girls (Pg-13, but it's about old ladies making a nudie calendar)
-The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (Hey, more boobies)
-Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigalo (****e. Gigalo means man ****e)

On that last one, Touchstone (Disney) used to be the studio that did Happy Madison movies. You know, just like Sony.

I think Fox is the only other studio that would be stupid enough to think a standalone Spidey reboot would even work these days. Other studios would probably be all for working out an MCU deal. Hell, Lionsgate was supposedly very interested in buying Sony's film division at one time. As far as I know, Lionsgate has a decent working relationship with Marvel. They certainly didn't try to pull any crap with Punisher and Man-Thing. They seemed to revert just fine (Marvel's even referenced those properties in Aos, and a Man-Thing character was used in Iron Man 3). Lionsgate was also involved in some of Marvel's only decent animated movies.

A major studio would think they have expertise to turn Spidey into a billion dollar solo movie without the involvement of Marvel and thus no need to split any of the backend. I think WB (for example) would make a solo Spider-Man movie without approaching Marvel. Add Fox to that list as well.

WB need to focus on their own DC projects first instead of messing around with Spider-Man.

WB doesn't give a damn about Spider-Man. It's Sony's job to fix this franchise.

They've tried to "fix" it like 3 times already, it ain't happening.

Warner Bros. doesn't even have an open slot for a mega budget movie right now. They downsized a bit, and they've got a hefty line up full of DC films, animated films, and Harry Potter spin offs. They wouldn't be looking for Spidey. The buzz I've heard leaned toward Lionsgate, CBS, and a Chinese group if Sony sells off the film division, and that's certainly far from confirmed.

Even if Fox bought Sony, what are the rules for them to get a Spidey movie out?

Sony only has until some time in 2018 now, so I would think that is still the deadline even if Fox bought it.

I don't think Fox would do that, to be honest. Speaking of which, you think we got it bad? Try thinking of how F4 fans have been feeling for the past 7-8 years. At least we're within spitting distance of a revitalized franchise. I can't see F4 2015 doing that for them.

Sony were these guys not available for The Sinister Six movie?
Jorge Garcia - Carnage
Erik Estrada - Doc Ock
Stephen Merchant - Vulture
Peter Dinklage - Venom
Rebel Wilson - Scorpia
Ice-T - Sandman

Ok so I wrote up a very vague synopsis for a possible spidey film that combines the Kraven's Last Hunt and Torment storylines from the early 90s. It deals with the relationship between Kraven and Calypso, Kraven's hunt for Spiderman and Connor's Lizard origin (dealt with very differently than it was in TASM)

Spider-Man: Hunt

Film opens with Kraven sitting on a throne, talking with his lover calypso. It is revealed that he is on the hunt for the biggest game in all of New York: Spiderman, and he has been stalking him relentlessly (The secret identity already known by him) Then, we pick up with Peter at a party being held at Connor's lab, celebrating a breakthrough in his research which allowed him to regrow his arm. Connor's family is there and Peter brought Mary Jane. Later, Connors gets a mysterious letter delivered to him, with mysterious, incomprehensible writing on it. The letter was sent by Kraven and laced with a drug by calypso designed to bring out the lizard through the regen serum and drive him mad. Connor then goes nuts and kills his wife in front of his son. As he is about to attack his son next, peter rushes in, out of suit, and attacks Connors, and a city-wide fight ensues between Peter and the savage force that is The Lizard. After defeating Connors, Peter returns to the Connors household to console his son in a heartfelt scene, where he tells him about his uncle ben. In the house, he finds the note and decodes a message on it. Through the message, he is able to trace the letter to Sergei Kravenoff. Connors and the note were a lure by Kraven to draw in his prey. Kraven challenges Peter to battle, and Peter nearly escapes. It is not soon after when Spidey is attacked in public, and this time he does not escape. He wakes up in a cage at Kraven's estate, with Calypso watching him. Kraven takes his place in the Spider suit and vows to be a better spiderman than peter was.

Now obviously it doesn't conclude there, but I don't intend on going more in depth on that. I think something along those lines would be an awesome way to tell a focused story with multiple antagonists that isn't convoluted.

It would be. I also can't imagine Fox buying Sony's film division. Anyway, I think that even if a sale happens an IP auction could be more likely for the big stuff. Sony Pictures has some notable properties, but the company itself isn't very attractive at the moment. Even Spider-Man wouldn't be that attractive as a standalone at this point. Any reboot would be rushed (as you said, the Spidey clock is substantially shorter than usual), quick reboots rarely make more than the previous film even when they're significantly better (Batman Begins), the last Spidey film wasn't substantially profitable (remember, the $65 million is before overheads, so it made less than that. In other words, it probably was below 20% profitability), the Spider-Man film rights do not include anything for merchandising whatsoever, and Marvel can make free money from merch using imagery from the films (that's huge, and most studios would lose interest on that alone), they can't do television tie-ins (all the rage these days), and the contract's a bit restrictive (no Hypno-Hustler :o).

LOVE IT. Except, I don't really care to see Connors onscreen again. Maybe way down the road, but not sharing screen time with Kraven. Kraven's Last Hunt needs to be the main focus of the film if it's done.

Yea, I wrote that up with him in mind because I have a bias towards the torment storyline, I I've always closely associated it with Last Hunt. But yea, if Kraven is introduced, it'd be awesome to see Calypso introduced as well, and them hitting him where it hurts

Wasn't Calypso the primary villain of Torment? She was manipulating Spidey and Lizard into fighting to the death IIRC. If Kraven's introduced, she'll probably be introduced as his lover/partner. Though how much of a role she'll actually play is questionable.

Yea, she was the one manipulating Lizard, turning him on full beast mode. Peter actually has a really hard hitting monologue about the nature of madness, it's a really cool story. She's also the one who leads Kraven into fits of rage against spiderman, which lead into last hunt. I can see them putting her in as a love partner/co-conspirator with Kraven. I'd hope they'd include Calypso's voodoo practices, and maybe a little nod to torment in some way, they don't need to bring in Connors or anything

She probably wouldn't have that much screen time, maybe slightly more than Felicia had in TASM2. She just needs to be established as Kraven's co-conspirator and lover. Nods to her voodoo background would be awesome.

If not her, it would be cool to see the other Kravinoffs, like Anastasia (she had a cool storyline not too far back in Slott's run)

Ana and possibly Al would be great to see, or at least be nodded to. Otherwise, I'd stick with Calypso if they want to include a Kravinoff associate that isn't Chameleon.

If it's the MCU, they have many ways tointroduce other Kravinoffs outside if film, AoS and the upcoming Netflix series come to mind (I also think at some point marvels gonna put out even more cable and network tv shows to counter the massive DC tv onslaught)
