I don't know but they did after sm 3 lol.

Spider-Man 3 grossed $890,871,626 worldwide and was the highest grossing movie in the Spider-Man franchise as well as the highest grossing movie of 2007!
Why would they possibly think rebooting a wildly successful franchise only 3 years after the last installment in said franchise is a remotely good idea!

Reboot? Why would Sony reboot their most successful franchise?
I'm from the future here are a few predictions:
Raimi and Sony will butt heads causing him to leave.
Sony will reboot the franchise with an all new cast.
It will be called The Amazing Spider-Man
Andrew Garfield will be the new Spider-Man, Emma Stone will play Gwen Stacy, Dane Dehaan will Harry Osborn.
ASM1 will feature The Lizard as the villain.
Jamie Foxx will play Electro in the TASM2.
Harry Osborn will be the Green Goblin instead of Norman.
Norman will die in TASM2
Harry will kill Gwen instead of Norman
ASM2 will get critically panned.
Harry Goblin's look will be a huge departure from the comics.
Electro will look like Ultimate Electro.
Rhino will be shoehorned into TASM2 at the last minute.
He will look like Transformer.

ASM will release on July 3rd 2012
ASM2 will release on May 2nd 2014

My thought about that is that they thought sm4 would be even more worse received then sm3 and that because of that it would make less and damage the sm movies. I know sm 3 made the most of sm 1-3 even with the reviews but I think a lot of that was because of how good sm 1 and 2 where witch creatied a lot of hype for 3 that and venom. They probly figured it would be better to reboot after sm3 then to make sm4 and then to reboot. With asm1 even though it made less they where probly happy has making 762 is still pretty good for a reboot sm movie that was said to be to much like sm1 with the orgin again. They probly figured they could win people back with asm2 and that it would take off and make a lot more the first one kind of like how cap 1 to 2 did or how batman begins to dark knight did.

But you also have to question why did they intrefear with sm3 after how good the first 2 where with raimi having full control. It would be one thing if sm 1 and 2 didn't do so good but with how good sm 1 and 2 did why would you not trust him to do a good, great movie again with 3? It would be like WB interfearing with Dark knight rises after batman begins and dark knight.

Goblin one is the only 1 I have a problem with look wise it just looks bad. Electro looked awesome and rinho looked ok and lizard looks 100% like the dekto version so I guess people just don't like the old lizard look and want the sharp teeth look.

I Have to say that I am convinced after asm2 that no matter what people are not going to like sm personality in any sm movie ever and same with peters. In this movies peter acts like a teenager and yet people say he is a jerk and a hipster. I still don't know what a hipster is has I had never heard of that world before this movies lol. Spider man was funny and wise cracking in asm2 yet now some people think he was annoying and not funny and think he is chessy.:doh:. I am convinced that people don't want sm to act like sm has I have found out that sm being sm is now just to chessy to a lot of people.

It's all about the $$$. Venom is a more marketable villain then Vulture and the fans wanted Venom, so they made Sam Raimi replace Vulture with Venom. We also got a love uh... thingy. We also got the black suit, the Sandman subplot, and the Harry wanting revenge on Peter aspect. We even got some dance scenes!

You should still trust a guy after he has given you 2 very good great movies though and dance scenes this is not a musical lol. If you make a great movie people are going to see it so that is all that matters. GOTG showed if a movie is good people are going to go see it and sm has a big big fan bas. You make a good sm movie then $$$ is going to take care of its self.

Sony and Raimi have admitted why the reboot happened. Sony didn't think the Vulture could carry a film on his own and insisted the script be altered. Raimi on the heels of SM3's poor reception was hoping to make SM4 his redemption film and set the franchise back on course- even hiring the SM2 writers. However after 4 or 5 drafts he was still not happy with the story, this lead to delays in production and several bumps of the release date. Finally Raimi told Sony he needed an extra year- pushing Spider-Man back to 2012. Sony refused causing Raimi to quit, and the cast walking with him. Given Spider-Man was their biggest franchise they had backup script for a reboot, which they began active development on upon the departure of Raimi. In Sony's eyes Spider-Man 3 was a success, this is why they repeated the same marketing strategy for Amazing 2, and why they asked Raimi to come back. It had nothing to do with the poor reception and more about Raimi/Maguire's refusal to work in the same conditions that fostered SM3.

Ah yes, but don't forget the toys! More villains=more toys! Would a kid rather play with a figure of some old guy with wings, or a black, monstrous, Spider-Man like creature? The kids want their Venom toothbrushes and their Venom candy! Don't forget their Venom shirts, sneakers, and hats! Oh, and you can't possibly forget the pop cans and chip bags with Venom on them!

I hope Avi Arad get's fired, hell even the Russo Brothers say he needs to go. I feel bad for Marc Webb, I feel bad for Andrew Garfield, I DO NOT feel bad for that arrogant greedy man. The way he laughed and teased about what exciting things were to come from Venom: Carnage in the same interview he implied Marvel should be asking Sony for help, made me mad even before I saw TASM2 (a movie I thought would blow me away) was awful.

Off topic, but screw that guy.

Ok, I know that this is the general discussion for future Spider-Man films.

but, I finally convinced myself to watch TASM 2, and I wanted to share my thoughts on it, since this is now the more active thread.

I..........actually liked it. Given everything I read and heard about it, and given how I didn't really care for TASM, I had pretty low expectations about TASM2.

But, surprisingly, I liked it better than I thought I would. I certainly didn't hate it, so that's a positive.......lol.

I think, overall, the TASM films had some great ideas under the hood - but poor execution of those ideas. as well as inconsistent tone. Between the 1st and 2nd films, it felt like the movies didn't quite know which direction to take.

And I'm still not sold on Garfield as Peter. I just didn't care much for this version of Peter Parker ( though he was less unlikable in TASM 2 ). Outside of his relationship with Gwen, I just couldn't connect with him. I never bought him as a nerdy science geek.

In costume, as Spidey, however, he was on point. and TASM 2 was on point in that regard. The way he wisecracked, interacted with the public, and the way he moved and fought all felt very much like the Spider-Man from the comics. I especially liked how Spidey was a symbol of hope and how he went out of his way to save individuals from harm. Batman vs Superman needs to take some cues from TASM 2 when it comes to showing Superman interacting with the public.

The other area where TASM 2 shined was the relationship between Peter and Gwen - which made the ending even more tragic and poignant.

And I actually liked this version of Harry/Green Goblin as well as Electro.

Rhino, otoh, well...................

So, overall, TASM 2 wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

but, I'm eager for Marvel to get the rights back ( or for Sony and Marvel to work out some kind deal ) and for Marvel to take back the reigns on their flagship character and give us a new reboot.

hopefully, the new series of films will be in line with the Spectacular tv show and/or the Ultimate Comics, where it follows a younger cast in HS.

make Peter, MJ, Gwen, and Harry the 4 principal characters. and center the films on the relationships and friendships amongst those 4, and how Peter being Spider-Man ultimately affects their relationship - for good and for bad.

Its really not that hard make mj, harry and gwen established characters that already exist and dont need to be introduced later on. Make villians who actually are bad guys and not some poor soul who lost at life. Make spiderman be spiderman for a year or two he already made his mark in small areas but isnt that well known as of yet.

Make shield know about spiderman's existence but keep a distance so they dont blow they're cover kinda like ultimate. Make it more like SSM where peter struggles with things other than girls.
Finally dont make it a freaking love story, make it a story about peter trying to gain the cities respect or trying to face a villain he has no confidence in beating. Leave the love stuff in the background not the main focus.

The issue with this incarnation is that the character out of the suit is too different from the chartacter in the suit and the audience can't bridge the gap and see the personality from inside the suit, the wise cracking smart ass guy, because he just doesn't seem to have any sense of humour as Peter Parker.

believe it or not, but in my opinion Dane Dehaan's Green Goblin is the most successful of these designs. sure they probably could design a Green Goblin that looks enough like the comicbook version and pleases mainstream movie goers too, but I really liked what they got. Can't really explain it, I just do

Jamie Foxx's Electro on the other hand... it has no edge to it. sure there isn't a lot to do with the ultimate Electro design, but they just should've adapted the original one. TSSM proved it can be done. and Lizard looks like a homeless senile man, there's no excuse for that design

Rhino looks semi cool, but really impractical too
