Ah yes, but don't forget the toys! More villains=more toys! Would a kid rather play with a figure of some old guy with wings, or a black, monstrous, Spider-Man like creature? The kids want their Venom toothbrushes and their Venom candy! Don't forget their Venom shirts, sneakers, and hats! Oh, and you can't possibly forget the pop cans and chip bags with Venom on them!

Yeah but sony doesn't own the rights to merchandise any more. If you make a good movie the movie is going to make a lot of money no matter what. Would you rather see a sm movie with green goblin that has a terable script, bad pacing, bad villains? or a movie with some one like sandman but with a great script, action, story ect?

Ok, I know that this is the general discussion for future Spider-Man films.

but, I finally convinced myself to watch TASM 2, and I wanted to share my thoughts on it, since this is now the more active thread.

I..........actually liked it. Given everything I read and heard about it, and given how I didn't really care for TASM, I had pretty low expectations about TASM2.

But, surprisingly, I liked it better than I thought I would. I certainly didn't hate it, so that's a positive.......lol.

I think, overall, the TASM films had some great ideas under the hood - but poor execution of those ideas. as well as inconsistent tone. Between the 1st and 2nd films, it felt like the movies didn't quite know which direction to take.

And I'm still not sold on Garfield as Peter. I just didn't care much for this version of Peter Parker ( though he was less unlikable in TASM 2 ). Outside of his relationship with Gwen, I just couldn't connect with him. I never bought him as a nerdy science geek.

In costume, as Spidey, however, he was on point. and TASM 2 was on point in that regard. The way he wisecracked, interacted with the public, and the way he moved and fought all felt very much like the Spider-Man from the comics. I especially liked how Spidey was a symbol of hope and how he went out of his way to save individuals from harm. Batman vs Superman needs to take some cues from TASM 2 when it comes to showing Superman interacting with the public.

The other area where TASM 2 shined was the relationship between Peter and Gwen - which made the ending even more tragic and poignant.

And I actually liked this version of Harry/Green Goblin as well as Electro.

Rhino, otoh, well...................

So, overall, TASM 2 wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

but, I'm eager for Marvel to get the rights back ( or for Sony and Marvel to work out some kind deal ) and for Marvel to take back the reigns on their flagship character and give us a new reboot.

hopefully, the new series of films will be in line with the Spectacular tv show and/or the Ultimate Comics, where it follows a younger cast in HS.

make Peter, MJ, Gwen, and Harry the 4 principal characters. and center the films on the relationships and friendships amongst those 4, and how Peter being Spider-Man ultimately affects their relationship - for good and for bad.

I really don't get why ever one thinks he is so unlikeable has peter but I think a lot of it has to do with the story and scripts of this movies. In sm 1-3 you had him interact a lot more with people then you did in asm 1 and 2. In sm 1-3 you had him not only interact with the villains but they had more sinces with him and ant may then they did in asm1 and 2. You also had jj, harry, norman, mj, ben ect. In asm1 and 2 there are not a lot of sinces between peter or sm outside of gwen and the villains. I think if asm1 and 2 had him interact more with other people like sm 1-3 did that things would look a lot better.

Holy shi looks like Spamming Trio just became the Spamming Quartet.

It would be great if we could get asm3 that surprises people like XMEN first class did has people thought that movie was going to suck after xmen 3 and wolverine origins and wolverine and then we could get asm4 that is like xmen dofp has right now asm3 if it gets made is a lot like xmen franchise was going in to xmen first class. I hope we can get a really good asm3 with Garfield and an amazing asm4 with Garfield has it would be great if he could get 2 really good/great sm movies with him and he desevers to play sm for has long has possible has he is just amazing at the part.

they certainly had the chance to take ASM3 and start afresh and in a new direction since MJ would have been a fresh face to start a brand new direction with

although if you look at the plans for the sinister 6 movie thats when you know if there is an ASM3 sony need to get someone onboard other then them

I think Maguire gave us the Parker most of us are familiar with even after becoming Spider-Man.

Garfield's Parker, as soon as he get's his powers he's no longer the identifiable, relatable character with problems. He easily gets with Gwen, stops being bullied, halfway through the 1st movie.

I know it's hard to "recreate" the character in a second go around and that can be blamed on the script. But, I think that's my major issue with Garfield's Parker. He's great as Spider-Man.

Given Sony's total lack of direction, the clean slate is what I want. A more collaborative deal would be fine too.

plus, even before he became Spidey, Garfield's Parker was listening to headphones and skateboarding through school halls even when he told not to.

the skateboarding part especially gave off the vibe he was something of a "rule breaker." that coupled with what he did to gain access to Oscorp ( stole another kid's identity which got that kid arrested then trespassed in the spider lab ).

The more cocky, rebellious, "invincible" attitude should come AFTER he gets his powers and before Uncle Ben dies.

Also, I never once bought this Peter as a geeky science nerd. not saying you have to go all out dorky, but there should be a transformation ( physically and attitude wise ) from the meek, timid, nerdy straight A student to a kid who suddenly has godlike powers who feels he can do anything.

This Peter also came across as a bit of a selfish and self centered jerk where he expects everything to revolve around him ( especially in TASM ). not in a meanspirited away, but he just didn't come across as though he cared about others aside from Gwen. Look how he interacted with Uncle Ben and Aunt May ( in both films ). He was somewhat "cold" to both of them.

and don't get me started on the height. TASM Peter just felt a bit too tall for the role. it's hard to buy him as the underdog nerd who constantly gets picked on my the big jocks when he's pretty much the same height as said jocks.

that being said, I do agree that Garfield was on point as Spider-Man in costume, especially in TASM 2. TASM Spidey again felt like a bit of a jerk.

someday...

I wouldn't be surprised if we don't hear anything this month.

Idt thats real. but im not opposed to an asm3 tho let garfield wrap it up if hes around i enjoy his spiderman maybe the can clean it up a lil too but im with the majority on rather having marvel rebooting spidey

If that is legit, I'd say it's probably Sinister Six related. Maybe they're shooting some test footage in Atlanta and want extras or something.

Eh i think sinister six at this point is stupid if theyre keeping spidey work on him they needa clean this up or let marvel reboot
