The reddit guy claims that the Spidey Summit is sometime in early January and that an announcement would be made either 2 weeks or a month later. There is also the possibility that they will just announce it on the day that the meeting takes place, but I don't know about that. Not sure if this guy is legit or not so take it with a grain of salt.

Have to agree, if a deal were made they would just announce it, they wouldn't bother waiting for a specific time. Spidey to Marvel is major news in itself and doesn't need a stage like SDCC as a platform to declare that.

I also read somewhere that there were plans for an announcement around AoU's release. I don't remember the source, but it came out around the 16th of last month.

Very true. All they need to say is, "Spider-Man will be in the Avengers" and the internet will break. Don't need any details, just "Spidey in Avengers" or "Spidey in MCU." Bam.

I think that SDCC would be a good opportunity to announce casting and such. Bring the new actor on stage and introduce him.

The news of the first reboot came out of nowhere in January of 2010. I don't think anyone was expecting that. So, the announcement may not be this month, but there's a possibility it could be just as abrupt.

An announcement like that would be abrupt. They won't say, "Yeah we'll let you know what's happening on January 15th."

The most users I've ever seen on one forum was the release of Avengers where there were over a 1,000 users on the Avengers board, I think a 'Spider-Man to Marvel' announcement would see the Spider-Man boards break that. The internet would break and no work or school would be done by comic fans for at least a day. Heck, I think a deal like that would actually make the national news.

Spider-Man to Marvel is HUGE. Sony at this point would be mad to turn this deal down. Truth is Sony 'can' turn the fortunes of Spider-Man around, it's been done before with other franchise in a far worse position. Hire an A list director, top class writing talent, etc but the problem is that is a gamble, the film may turn out to be quality but with diminishing returns (personally, I could live with that) but for Sony the bottom line is the BO and that is most important.

Spider-Man made by Marvel is a gamble. That imho is a lock for a billion, imagine the marketing

Imagine the teaser trailer;

*black screen* then...

'From the makers of;'

*Iron Man clip rolls*
*Thor clip rolls*
*Captain America clip rolls*
*Avengers clip rolls*
*Guardians cllp rolls*
(or a montage of the above)

THEN

MARVEL STUDIOS LOGO plays in its entirety...

*fade to black*

THEN...

MARVEL
SPIDER-MAN (title page)

June 2017

*fade to black*

the cinema would explode with cheering and not a single shot of Spider-Man would have been shown. Imagine the excitement from fans and GA alike. Oh yeah, a Marvel Spider-Man movie makes a billion. And that is why Sony should do a deal, to increase revenue, reduce costs (co produced) and restore lustre to THEIR franchise before it is run into the ground. After the trilogy of co produced Marvel Spider-Man movies then they can make sole finance the movie again but from a stronger platform than what they have now.

I was actually tearing up as I was writing the teaser trailer. Seriously, for an event that momentous the marketing with practically handle itself.
Marvel could pull a 'Nolan' and show absolutely nothing about the movie confident that people will turn up in their droves to watch the movie regardless and then blow them away unseen footage IN THE MOVIE. Unlike the Sony approach of blowing their load in the trailers and having the GA feel they have seen the movie in the trailers (so why bother going to see the movie) or not being wowed when they see the movie because they have seen all the money shots in the trailers.

Early=1-10
Mid=11-20
Late=21-31

So, according to reddit, they are talking in the next 48 hours.

Reddit leakers are lying 99% of the time

'Erm, Avi, you DO realise Marvel and not Sony earn every penny from Spider-Man merchandise, right?'

Avi - 'Wait, what?'

I really hope that a deal is already done and they are just ironing out some details.

I wonder if they might try to keep the whole thing quiet and secretly shoot an after credit (mid-credit?) sequence for A:AoU, then spring it on the public. Imagine being in the theater and not knowing and then there it is!

Though I think keeping that quiet would be hard, and news of the sequence would leak a couple of weeks before the film opened at the very least.

Do you think Marvel will want to do another big announcement like they did foe the Phase III slate of films? I think they honestly wanted to do it at that announcement, but the talks with Sony fell through.

so i just read this on CBM and i have to say i am shocked this was even a decision that needed a room full of producers and writers and directors

Comic book writer and former artist, Brian Michael Bendis, was in charge of updating Spidey, and created Ultimate Spider-Man was responsible for Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man using mechanical web-shooters and not organice web-shooters like Tobey Maguire had in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man films.

"Yeah, I’ve gone in before," Bendis told Yahoo. "They’ve asked me in to be the deciding vote on some stuff, which is an odd experience as well. [Before Amazing Spider-Man], they sat me down in Amy Pascal’s office with this big roomful of producers and writers and directors, and she looked at me and said “Organic webshooters or mechanical webshooters?” I said “mechanical,” and half the table said, “Goddamn it!” They were mad because I was clearly the deciding vote, even though I didn’t know that. So when I see the mechanical webshooters, I feel a little happiness. I feel like I did something good in the world.

That's a horrible story but with that said, when they left the decision to Raimi (i.e. they were hands off) Raimi went with organics because 'they made more sense'.

Organic is the approach thats quicker and less explanative but no way does it make more sense, they both take some suspending disbelief

Although personally id say the organic takes away something from the character

There will probably be a "no comment" sort of deal. If I recall correctly, Kevin Feige was asked about it and gave no real answer. But he then said that "some things are still being discussed" (possibly referring to talks with Sony).

The only time Feige mentioned something was at their Phase 3 press conference, and that was a mere few days before they sent the offer to Sony.

Organic is fine. He got bite by a radioactive Spidey and got Spidey powers. Giving him organic webbing makes sense. Comics used it.

The sad thing is that it wouldn't be a surprise because it would be everywhere on the internet. But regardless, YES it would be really damn cool to see Spidey in the A:AoU after credits scene! :woot:

they both make sense in Suspended Disbelief

which one is more interesting for the character? probably mechanical because it not only shows peters smarts but it also gives him a vulnerability and also an advantage being able to adapt his webbing to a villain or situation

Logically, organic webs make sense, but

1) It takes away one of Spidey's greatest weaknesses: Not enough web/ broken shooters

And

2) It just looks weird

What's the alleged date for the summit via reddit?

Peter already has a dead Uncle, girlfriend, & parents with poor aunt.

Let him at least having him rely on his webs not failing him.

Besides there are other ways to show Peter's intelligence. If web shooters are the only way to make him intelligent, he might not be all that intelligent to begin with.
