Homecoming The Amazing Spider-Man 3 General Discussion - Part 9

Has anyone ever read Amazing Spider-Man #Minus 1? It shows Peter growing up before turning into Spider-Man and reveals he was such a huge Captain America fan. He collected his comics and such, so perhaps they can incorporate that into the SM film. He yearns to be one of the Avengers, and then his dream comes true by the end of the movie when Fury invites him to be a part of his team. That would be a nice setup for Avengers: Infinity Wars I suppose.

Well, I'll assume more details have been thrown into the mix. I think even if somehow a deal doesn't happen, it's safe to say there will be some major changes.

While hopefully if the deal doesn't go though sony at least brings in a big time director and finally stops interfering and brings in better righters then they had for asm2.

Remember that guy that said TASM2 was the Dark Knight of the Spider-Man franchise?

Yes and to me it is better then dark knight has you can see by my CBM list but I know just about no one while maybe like 1% of people fell that way lol.

Get Sam Raimi back if the deal doesn't go through. Put Tobey back as Spider-Man and continue where they left off with Spider-Man 3. lol

That would confuse the GA to much and we don't need tobey back. Garfield is superer to tobey any way and most people like him better then tobey. We just need a good script and don't edit out half the movie lol.

That'd be awesome! He could have a cap poster on his bedroom wall and maybe a replica shield. And then they can finally meet in infinity war!

The thing is, I don't think they have the slightest clue what to do for their next film (whether it's the spinoff or not) if it doesn't happen.

The problem is he bought the web formula from Oscorp, so they ruined even that! I like the idea that the spider bite somehow translates into Pete coming up with the web formula intuitively.

Step out of your fan shows for a second and view it like Joe Blogs in the audience. If you saw a teenager design and construct the most sophisticated polymer ever that could be compressed down to be stored within a small metal capsule and on high powered release solidifies with the tensile strength of steel strong enough to pull a plane. If you could buy a teen by himself could make that (which is a stretch even for a teen genius with limited resources) your very next question would be, 'then why the heck isn't he selling the patent to be rich'. Also, 'where would he get all the metal containers to hold the polymer?'.

Stan Lee tackled this very question back in the day and got around it by saying the people he wanted to sell it to were willing to give him anything he wanted, until it dissolved in one hour and they wanted no part of it. But I'm calling bull****, you mean to tell me there are no applications for a super strong polymer that dissolves in an hour? C'mon...

So you can either go one of two paths;
a) Say **** it! If the audience can buy a teen can bench press a car and stick to walls, is it that much more of a stretch to say he is the invertor of the most advanced polymer in creation?

or

b) No way are the audience going to buy that, so let's say a mega rich corporation invented the polymer with unlimited resources and the teen's genius found a way to extract the polymer with a high pressure release mechanism, which is a stretch but less of a stretch.

I bet money that was Sony/Webb's thought process.

Actually no, sony's thought process was a group vote followed by an Avi Arad ultimate venom vote

You know what's funny? Despite TASM2 not being nearly as bad as Schumacher's films, there's a lot of interesting little parallels and coincidences:

A Nygma-esque lonely stalker with an overlooked invention falls into an unprotected vat, turning him into the blue-skinned main villain.

The green-skinned secondary villain manipulates him and breaks him out of prison, leading to a team-up.

A bumbling, idiotic brute as the third villain, who some people (not me) say is a complete butchering of the comics version.

Green skinned secondary villain breaking out and manipulating a blue skinned villain......

Has Garfield been interviewed at all since the Sony hack?

I see a missing spot here... July 2016. A PERFECT slot for Spidey with an after credits scene in Age of Ultron and a quick cameo in Civil War.

May, July, November... Why would they purposefully leave out July?

That would confuse the GA to much and we don't need tobey back.

I was half joking when I said that. I still very much want a continuation of the Raimi films and would actually love it the original cast and director to return. But the GA probably would get confused so it would never happen anyway. I can still dream though.

Garfield is superer to tobey any way and most people like him better then tobey. We just need a good script and don't edit out half the movie lol.
"Superer"? Seems to me like Garfield has gotten a lot more hate than Tobey ever did. Most of the criticisms of Raimi's Peter Parker stem from hardcore fans who thought his portrayal was inaccurate, but overall he was very well received by the GA.

That'd be awesome! He could have a cap poster on his bedroom wall and maybe a replica shield. And then they can finally meet in infinity war!

That would be really awesome! Cap would also be finding himself yet another fan after Agent Coulson.

The thing is, I don't think they have the slightest clue what to do for their next film (whether it's the spinoff or not) if it doesn't happen.

I think they may have an idea for what they want to do with the next movie (Sinister Six), but they probably realize by now that it's terrible. And I think the bigger problem here is that there is no ultimate or overall goal with the franchise. Marvel has its films mapped out through 2020 and beyond, and they seem pretty confident in the direction they want to go in. Sony's way of handing things is just announcing a number of films and spin-off titles without knowing what to do with them.

Whatever happened to the Spider-Man "brain trust" Sony put together? :whatever:

Has Garfield been interviewed at all since the Sony hack?

Nope.

Hmm, I think they wanted to get a solo Spidey film in for 2017 if the deal ever went through. It would be closer to the release of Avengers: Infinity Wars and would give them more time to work out the deal and get a good script together.

I wouldn't be surprised if they were able to pull it off. It would fit together so perfectly...

I'd say 2017 is far more likely. Early July / Mid-August could work.

ElMayimbe hinted that Spidey would be in Infinity War earlier. I'm thinking the deal will / has gone ahead, but we won't be seeing Spidey introduced until 2017/18.

They probably could pull it off, but I agree with BatsDC... I think 2017 is more likely.

I feel like they would want to establish the new Spider-Man before putting him in an Avengers movie. But then again, it might be easier to introduce him in a team up movie and then give him a solo film to avoid more reboot criticisms.

Where would they put it? Their May, July and November slots are already filled up.

They can release the SM movie in April or August of 2017.

Captain America: TWS was released April 2014 (less than a month before TASM2) and GOTG was released in August. Both films performed extremely well.

I don't know...

Civil War- May 2016
Marvel's Spider-Man- July 2016
Doctor Strange- November 2016

OR

Marvel's Spider-Man- April 2017
GOTG 2- May 2017
Thor 3- July 2017
Black Panther- November 2017

What do you guys think? I'm still hoping for 2016, keeps the MCU at 3 films per year. Our inner clocks say we need a Marvel film in July of 2016, we just need it.

The prospect of July 2016 is extremely exciting... the deal might not happen but would love to see it happen it that way. Minor appearance in Civil War followed by a solo film 2 months later. Fits into Marvel's 2016 calendar perfectly. Would be the best time to fit the movie in without oversaturating 2017 with 4 movies.

Civil War starts shooting in April so if Marvel follows the same timeline, earliest they need to start filming would be June. Also a SM film wouldn't require overseas filming so the filming timeframe could be shrunk further. Would give them a healthy 5 month pre-production window if the deal goes through during the Spidey-Summit. Definitely enough time to get a script polished + casting etc.

I'm going to hold off on consistently posting until we get some type of news.
