Comics The Amazing Spider-Man #554

Aloha,
I'm enjoying the serialized style of Amazing at this time. The fact that you WANT to know what's going to happen next week is exciting. The internet has really spoiled we comic book fans. Back in the Silver Age-The Big Man first appeared in Amazing #10, it wasn't for a little over a year, before his true identity was revealed. Nowadays, we want to know everything immediately. As long as plots and sub plots are continuing to be develped and within the BND world, continuity is being flowed, I can wait for some of the continuity issues created by OMD to be resolved. Enjoyed #554.

Aloha,
In the take my foot out of my mouth department.
A much better example of continuity taking periods of time would be Green Goblin appearing in #14 but not being revealed until #39 to be Norman Osborn, that's 2 years.:wow:
Okay, can I go back to bed now?

Aloha,
One of the GREAT things about the Hype is being in the company of true Spidey fanatics. We learn from each other and you're never too young or old to learn or be corrected.

Ah, Star Trek II. Easily the best of all Star Trek movies.

Aloha,
Did anyone notice that Peter mentioned the New Avengers in this issue?

anybody else found it funy when freak busted out the crystal meth? haha the expression on spidey's face was PRICELESS!!!

Honestly, I found this issue awful -- the worst of BND yet.

That's probably because it is. With each new writer BND has gotten worse.

Mr.Negative and Slott being the only interesting thing about BND so far. Everything else is either "been there done that" for lack of just saying unoriginal or "horrible" for lack of saying Gale sucks.

Can't say I'm sorry to hear that! :woot: Back to the future, please. Back to before OMD.

10 years ago, these stories would've been fine but now, the standards for comic book stories are higher than ever and these "simple" stories just aren't acceptable anymore. We're in a very dark and mature age of comics, and ASM is falling way behind marvel's other successful titles. Spider-man is marvel's mascot character, his book should be the best of them all, at least i know it has the potential to be. Hopefully, the writers are just putting the pieces into place for things to really kick off soon...

I love Spidey right now - It's old school as heck. And yes the world has become a dark and basically crappy place to live - But it's not like every single day is dark for all people - Hey if it was why should we keep living?

By "everything", are you counting in Arana? ;)

Arana whose covert ops based life style (even before CW) is nothing like Spider-man's free lance based one? I need directions with that map, buddy.

I'll be more specific.
Menace=cliche goblin with typical cliche Goblin mystery. Yawn.

Jack Pot is Black Cat all over again.

Carlie=No screw that. Carlie IS freaking Liz Allen.

Additionally, The new DB HAD potential with Dexter Bennet and how he didn't want to focus on Spider-man, until Gale threw a pile of dung on his characterization and turned him into Copy-pasta JJJ.

Seriously, these are the Same Exact Stories all over again. I thought Spidey was just going back to his roots, not back in time.

well we haven't seen anyone hit meth before in a spidey book. :P
but besides that....yup...these stories still could have been done with a married spidey. even the jackpot storyline. (anyone remember the seperation?)

and im sorry my friend but i must disagree....dark stories like the death of jean de wolfe are good once in a while. but spidey is really about humor. lol...you dont want a depressed peter ALL the time like in the movies now do ya? haha.

I'm a convert of BND, and I really like this issue. Gale's best (his previous 2 were the worst of BND so far), but he redeemed himself and this one is actually better than any of Guggenheim's issues.
+: Better narrative flow
More seriousness this time around.
More relatable conflicts for Peter.
The humor is funnier than the 1st two issues of Gale
-: His captions and thought balloons are too old-school.
His characterization of DB is entirely different from Guggenheim's take.
Peter giving cigars to JJJ?!! Contradictory to the 1st few pages of issue 547.

Thats the thing which seems to be mssing ASM up. Marvel changed the status quo with OMD to try and make spidey like he was in his classic era. Instead though they have forgotten all the development that occurred in the 60s and 70s with the character and instead have created a nostalgic, rose-tinted, inoffensive, static safe version of spidey and his status quo.

Sorry, but what in the heck are you talking about?

1st off, the bloody dark era is over. That was the 80's, htat lead into the overly uneeded darkness of the 90's. Don't get me wrong, I love dark stories, bit it got WAY over the top and just crazy.

I won't deny, we are in a major 'mature,' age of comics, but I don't know why you can't see it in BND. It's all there.

And I REALLY don't get why you can't see the 'darkness,' in current ASM:huh:

You have Mr Negative, who beats his owns goons to death with a stick and covered in blood, horrifically murdering all the mafiosos in NY, Spidey woke up to one of their corpses, there are corpses all over NY turning up with Spider-Man tracers shoved in their mouths, Freak snorting sugar as he's so desperate! What else? Menace decapitating people left right and centre... Crucifying a politician, Freak transofming into a monster hell bent on smoking meth, and doing as many drugs as possible, as well as commiting murder...

If anything, Id say that they're trying to show that this is Spidey more for the 'adult,' 20 something audience primarily. (We all know when we were younger we were attracted to the comics that we were a 'touch,' too young to read, lol! God bless those times!)

And in turns of mature storytelling, this has been the most complex Spider-Man stories for a VERY long time. Several main themes, as well as numerous sub plots and supporting characters. Not to mention several ongoing mysteries.

And the content is about relationships, trying to make a living, old gf's and possibilities for new gf's, trying to find an apartment. Not to mention how the media works, on top of politics working into the stories. Drugs, mafia, legal ramifications of being Spidey, registering with the government.

All sounds pretty grown up to me...
