Based on scheduling ASM is gonna get the boost from its 5 day 4th of July weekend. But a week later it'll get a small hit from Ice Age 4 and then an even greater hit from TDKR which is likely to steal most of its audience.

Steal most of it's audience if the film isn't good. If it's good and has legs, then people will go back to it.

The point is that they are both competing for the same audience, TDKR has much more good will from the audience.

More good will now, but if people dig ASM, then it will have good will as well won't it? Same audience yeah, but there is no rule saying you have to choose one or the other. If they are both good films, then it is likely that a large part of that same audience will see BOTH films multiple times, that was my point.

EDIT:

Related to my previous post: The harsh truth is that out of TASM, The Avengers and TDKR... TASM is the one that has the most chance to fail, mainly because it may not "be accepted" seeing as how the previous trilogy may be fresh in the audiences minds, along with other changes that the general audience may not like.

Not that I want it to. I want this to be better than the previous trilogy.

True. As of now, the reception to ASM isn't all that good. I heard some people saying "What the hell?" when the trailer was shown before Captain America. I'm not sure if people wanted a reboot, they probably would of been fine with a 4th movie.

As long as we get a great movie though, I'm good.

I just don't see that happening myself. Even if the film were a complete turd, I think you pencil in $500 million worldwide.

Even if the movie is a turd it will make 500 million...

overseas.

Captain America has made $339,719,952 worldwide thus far.
Thor made $448,512,824 worldwide.
Iron Man made $585,174,222 worldwide.
Iron Man 2 made $622,056,974 worldwide.

The 4 most recent CBMs aside from TDK have made a mean of $498,865,993 worldwide. Anything less than that for TASM would be a total failure to me.

Oops forgot First Class as well but that only made $352,526,305 worldwide so it really wouldn't change hat figure much.

The sad thing about First Class is it was such a good film. It wasn't a financial disaster by any means, but it deserved so much more. Once people see it on demand and DVD/Blue-Ray, then many will discover what they missed in theatres.

I agree, I think it's one of the best CBMs out there. I'd place it in the top 5 with Spider-Man 1 and 2, TDK and Iron Man.

Well I actually don't think SM3 was as bad as fanboys make it out to be....but the look of the film is why it did well overseas. They love these big colorful blockbusters (Transformers, Pirates of the Caribbean, Alice in Wonderland), because subtitles aren't necessary. I imagine TASM will still have that in spades given it still stars a guy in blue and red tights swinging around a metropolis. And now he fights a giant green lizard! Throw in a robot and you have Japan's biggest hit of all time. :oldrazz:

I do jest.

If you make the Lizard a bit larger they'll think he's an offshoot of Godzilla.

Just make sure no one photoshops Lizard into a picture of the Enola Gay. We all seen what happened to Dolphins & Whales because of that situation. :oldrazz:

Huh?

Godzilla is as tall as a building, this Lizard is about 6 to 7 feet, according to the photo--comparing him to the height of the two girls that he's towering over.

I'm predicting $275-290 domestic to Avengers $350 M domestic and Batman's $400+.

Worldwide, ASM might beat Avengers since it's an established brand, which tend to do better overseas.

I don't see The Avengers making more than Spider-Man anywhere. That doesn't make sense to me. The average movie goer doesn't even know about The Avengers. If you go up to someone and ask them who Spider-Man is, they'll know instantly. Do the same with The Avengers and you'll likely get a blank stare. You might counter that by saying that people will warm up to it through marketing and advertisements, but that doesn't change the fact that Spider-Man already has a HUGE fanbase.

Having more than one superhero in one movie isn't going to make someone more inclined to see it. I'd rather see Spider-Man in his own film than see him as part of The Avengers.

That isn't to say The Avengers will fail. It won't. It will succeed and a likely garner huge numbers, but I don't see it making more than Spider-Man or Batman. No chance in hell.

1) TDKR - 1 billion + ww
2) Avengers - $800 -850 ww
3) ASM - $700 -750 ww

But as I've said in the past, they do know about Iron Man who while not quite as money-receptive as Raimi's Spidey, he was in the same ballpark. Downey's Tony Stark is still wildly popular and now he's in a movie with Thor and Captain America....they've already seen a the Spider-Man origin story and it wasn't that long ago.

I'm just going to say it, I think the Avengers is going to kill The Amazing Spider-Man in the domestic box office. However, TASM may beat The Avengers overseas. It's too early to tell. But the buzz around The Avengers is nothing but positive and the level of audience good will for Iron Man is still at an all-time high. Spider-Man is a bigger brand than Iron Man or anyone else in The Avengers, but the reboot is going to be met with a lot of resistance. We already see people groaning at the trailer in theaters. I'm not saying TASM will flop or underperform. Just that it won't perform at the level of the Raimi movies because people are turned off by the reboot/remake vibe of the film. The Avengers has a unique angle (team-up) and a very popular brand that wasn't just recast in Iron Man.I'm going to say:

-The Avengers: $300-$320 million U.S.
-The Amazing Spider-Man: $250-$270 million U.S.

My predictions.

I know a lot more people that would be considered apart of the GA that know about TASM and not The Avengers. Next to no one outside of comic fans and avid movie goers know that the film is coming out next year. Hell, during Thor and Captain America, when the "Thor/Captain America Will Be Seen Next In The Avengers" I heard multiple people ask what that meant.
