I am actually pretty pumped for this movie. Wasn't a fan of Raimi's vision. Hopefully Spider-Man does have sophmoric wit and is comedic in this film, though. I think that vital aspect of the character was almost drained of its entire life in the previous franchise.

Would you care if it makes less?

If it makes less than that WW there won't be a sequel and Sony will sell the rights and script they are writing to Disney. So yeah I care if it makes less than that. If it's a great movie I will want a sequel and if it sucks I will want Marvel to have the rights back. Both of those things hinge on profit and around $400 million WW is the magic number for either case.

I know I don't want it to suck, I think the sequel will be important to the story

Hey,

Spida-man PM'ed me and said

"Spida-Man found this leaked image of a battle between Spidey and Lizze and wanted to share it with you all"

:p

Nobody wanted to listen to me when I said Sony was broke. Well the entire marketing speaks for itself. As if the quality of most of the promos weren't a big enough hint.

Sony Pictures financial woes have been common knowledge since the Wall St. Journal article last June.

Not that common around these parts as a bunch of people kept protesting against it even when I had re posted that article.

More an act of denial than anything. Then again most of those people had just joined in 2011. So there's that.

I'm so excited for GR: Spirit of Vengeance.

Ghost Rider!!!!

Wait...Nicholas Cage....:down

The marketing really is dissapointing in comparsion to the past 3 films.

Ehh...it won't make or break a film, imo, so I'm cool with no spot at Super Bowl. Hell, TDKR won't have a spot either, and that's not going to cause any pandemic.

I still wonder if people really watch this superbowl spots. If I don't care for these kind of things, then I will take the time of the ads to go to the bathroom or to take some food, drink or to talk to a friend or someone nearby.

I do think people tend to put too much weight on Superbowl spots. Like you said Jick, half the people watching don't even pay attention during these spots, and the ones that are looking out for them ahead of time are the ones who would watch them online whenever they became available, anyway. I'm not convinced these 30-second spots are really worth their cost in PR, tbh. That's a pretty big fraction of a film's entire marketing budget being thrown at one very short spot that only airs once, months before public awareness of the movie actually counts, imo.

Yeah, same here. People may not care about ads but I think it is better to let people KNOW that there is a spider man will come soon. Better than when just one month or even a few days before the movie come( or came?) out people will be like WTF I dont know that there is a spider man will come out that soon!

Earlier- causes more talking, hyping and thinking etc.

People do watch them, mostly because most places have the **** up so loud you can't help but hear it first, then the visual catches your eye.

Super Bowl ads are far less important these days so it didn't really need to have an ad. You didn't see it helping that godawful movie Land of the Lost now did you? That's why people should mostly be worried about how good or bad the movie is at this point because word of mouth and how well it's received will be the determining factor. The second trailer will also be somewhat pivotal to at least get people in seats.

With that said the quality of the marketing for this movie has still been abysmal at best but we should all know the reason for that.

if I was spidey I'd forget about lizard and concentrate on the giant who has him and lizard in a death grip

This. If it's a funny commercial, then I'll stick around, like for Pepsi or Doritos, but it isn't really necessary to show a movie spot during the game as a lot of people do take breaks anyways, so it's really 'meh' to me.

Yeah I couldn't have said it any better.

Spider-Man 3 had the worst marketing, imo. Making it seem like Venom would be the centerpiece of the damn movie with showing his face all over the place and he wasn't in the damn thing for more than five seconds.

That goes up there with X3 and making the fans think Cyclops would be around longer than the twenty minute mark.

That's not bad marketing it's called deceptive marketing. Very different.

There was still a huge campaign nonetheless no matter how full of crap it was in terms of the actual content in the film.

Green Lantern did the same thing with trying to make Oa seem like the centerpiece of the film with its marketing.
