The Amazing Spider-Man The Amazing Spider-Man General Discussion & Speculation Thread - Part 1

My theory is the SWAT team comes across Connors' sewer laboratory and somehow they're accidentally exposed to whatever turns Connors into the Lizard.

But the lizard swat team don't show up until the last battle upon the Oscorp building. So who knows.

I really hope Connors lives; growing up on the 90's TAS, I loved the relationship between him and spidey and would hope to see that in this franchise.

I am hoping....

Given that we know it sounds like the Lizard has a sewer lab, I figure he has retreated down there during the early stages, or at a stage where he is less primal, and in the process of the film has captured some of the Swat team (they went missing)... and he has experimented on them (NOT to turn them into Lizards/Reptiles... but to try to find a cure for himself)... and as such, they are lesser versions of him.

Upon the ending, where the Lizard has gone more primal, he releases them (knowingly or not) to either attack Spider-Man (again, knowingly or not).

If the lizard will always fight spidey "unknowingly," do you guys think he can still be considered a villain? I mean all these battles are on accident, if that's the case. A true villain has reason for fighting.

The first shot is easily the best, in my opinion) I love that expression under the mask)

Not sure IF this post is in response to mine, but I think the Lizard will fight Spider-Man knowingly, as in the beast will overrule the remaining human aspects at key points. And I hope the beast (primal) Lizard will take over more and more as Connors races to find the cure.. realizing the last remnants of humanity are slipping away.

I can see everyone's concerns on the following...however, I feel everyone should remain optimistic. It could honestly go either way. I know a lot of people are thinking this is going to be cheesy but I honestly feel these ideas could be really cool.

I personally don't think they are going the route of "The Lizard is attempting to change all of mankind". I think the SWAT Lizard are more of a reflection of Connors tragedy. When the SWAT team goes down into the sewers to find the Lizard, I think he ends up capturing them rather than killing them.

He will probably then conduct experiments, with what little humanity he has left, to try and cure himself. Then, because he becomes fully primal at the end, he kidnaps Gwen. Somewhere, in the deep recesses of Connors mind, he probably remembers her from his human life. He knows she is a genius and probably thinks she'll be able to cure him.

And I love that the final fight takes place at Oscorp! I too immediately thought of the Spider-Man: The Animated Series fight. I really can't wait to see how this film turns out. Oh and that new picture of Lizard has me a little more excited for his design. It's growing on me.

I agree with everything here! Could turn out better than we expect

I wonder if they're going for more of a somewhat evil Hulk aspect with Lizard, as he's aware of Connors, and is trying to constantly thwart his attempts to get rid of his alter ego.

However way Lizard turns the SWAT members, I don't want a SWAT lizardman to escape and show up in a sequel. That's just way too silly and makes emo Peter a work of art.

I'm fine with the idea for now, but if Lizard dies or is cured, then it needs to be the end of the lizardmen as well.

That's what I am thinking...the SWAT lizards are cured somehow.

Is it just me, or is the "Marketing" section of the ASM wiki page kinda biased? It seems thoroughly negative.

I don't know what's the big deal with everyone griping about the SWAT Lizards. To be honest and frank, this seems to fit perfectly with The Lizard from the comics and animated series. Sure, it looks and sounds cheesy, but it fits with the general idea that Connors wants everyone to feel his pain. Heck, maybe there is no way for him to change back and he's stuck like this; maybe Spider-Man or the police, in a scuffle with him, breaks the cure, thus he wants to take his revenge out on them both.

I mean if I couldn't go back to being a human and was stuck as a slobbering, scaly lizard I would want the public to suffer my wrath either by killing them/eating them or changing them into what I am.

And yes maybe it's just the studioheads wanting an excuse to spend more money for a bigger, climatic ending to the movie, but I think the mentor/father-figure aspect won't get lost in the fray of Spider-Man versus a bunch of Lizard lackies.

As for the design, yes it looks a bit like a Goomba and Killer Croc, but Webb seems to be very respectful of the source material going for a Ditko-like look. Peter is more of an Ultimate Spider-Man Peter. Gwen seems to be classic Gwen. Webb, to me, seems to be cherrypicking from a lot of history and lore to give us a great big bang of a show. I don't think he's going to make Lizard into some mindless, monstrous beast or some mad, maniacal scientist, but someone whom, like Ock and Norman before him, made a terrible mistake, changed into something unusual; brought out the darkness in him, and he has to atone for his sins and realize he's hurt a lot of people. It's your typical "Spider-Man" movie formula.

Of course I could be wrong but I hope not.

I am interested in the one line someone mentioned..."I am beautiful!"

That's a pretty twisted logic. However, at the same time, it could work well into the whole "Making mankind into giant Lizards". If that is truly what they are planning on doing, even though as I said before I doubt that it's the direction they plan to go, I love the twisted logic.

Mankind is a species that thrives on vanity. To an extent, it sometimes inhibits our ability to make progress. If everyone turned into giant Lizards, it takes more of our reptilian than the human side. Would this result in a certain type of happiness? Kind of interesting in my opinion.

I can see it as this....

after a few rounds with Lizard, Peter finally manages to figure out on how to create a cure and goes to OsCorp to do such.

While Peter is in the building, Lizard and his lizard minions are making their way to the building themselves to seek vengeance.

Peter gets the cure and races up top to defend OsCorp and all of its employess as well as trying to save his mentor, but Lizard ends up killing himself by accident and Peter uses the cure on the SWAT team instead.

SWAT Lizards does sound a bit corny, but I trust Webb knows what he's doing. I just pray the CG looks good.

Agreed. I edit Wiki and I've been planning to change that section to make it less biased.
You should. It's like they looked for all the worst reactions to the things that have been released or leaked and put it on the page.

I'm pretty confident that the CG will look fine. IIRC people who saw the SDCC footage said that the Lizard's CG looked fine, and I don't even thing it was finished.

The swat lizard looks like Connor's lizard in the toys.So no different stages.

I like this reason. I always figure the Lizard story to be Dr. Connors's fall in becoming the Lizard and Spider-Man's attempt to bring Curt back and cure him of the monster. Not Dr. Connors leading a conquest of Lizard men.

If you guys look at the rooftop battle toys, Lizard has a pretty noticable snout while the lizard minion (swat) looks more flat face like the lizard promo art we've seen.

Snout or no Snout, I'm just happy were getting a version of The Lizard like this:

Even despite he has this lizard's face

all I can say is please give the lizard a personality. outside of a horror movie can you think of a primal creature that works well as a villian/foil for the hero.

predator - action
alien - horror
pitch black - horror
pumpkin head - horror
attack the block - horror
american warewof in london - horror

if you are playing up the horror aspects of the movie then primal works, if not then primal is a mistake because it's too much of a shift from the pacing of scenes of the hero.
