The Amazing Spider-Man The Amazing Spider-Man General Discussion & Speculation Thread - Part 10

Potential Spoilers I've heard from people who claim to have attended test-screenings.

Peter Parker's DNA was altered by his father, Dr. Richard Parker, during Peter's childhood. The spider's bite while he's investigating Oscorp only "activates" his powers.

Oscorp is behind the creation of the Lizard Serum, and is also conducting experiments that'll lead to the creation of other members of Spider-Man's rogues, including Mysterio, Scorpion, Electro, Vulture, Venom (The Ultimate version) and the Green Goblin.

The Lizard's personality is overcoming Dr. Curt Connors'. Before the final battle, The Lizard completelly takes over, which is shown when The Lizard removes Connors' lab coat, renegading Connors' human clothes and identity.

The Lizard intents to turn the people of New York in reptile-like mutants using a gas variation of the Lizard Serum in a biological attack.

In an after-credits scene, Oscorp approaches the police and offers them the means to capture Spider-Man: a team of six individuals armed with advanced technology and/or genetically modified by the company. This is the movie's version of the Sinister Six, that could appear in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

I've also hear that [BLACKOUT]Gwen Stacy is murdered by the Lizard[/BLACKOUT], but I doubt it. I do believe that [BLACKOUT]Captain George Stacy dies[/BLACKOUT], though.

Um yeah. Did you hear that
Gwen was murdered by the Lizard
from people at the test screenings?

You should spoiler that, just in case. I've heard it from a different person, and I don't really believe it.

Now let me tell you why that is bull****.

1) Lizard loses his labcoat long before the final battle. The final battle takes place on top of Oscorp at night, and he didn't have a labcoat when he fights Peter at the high school in the day time.

2) Does anyone seriously believe that they would kill Gwen in the very first movie, after talking about how they studied the Gwen Stacy saga for this series? I fully expect that Gwen will die at the hands of the Goblin in one of the sequels, not by Lizard in the very first movie of the series.

3) That Sinister 6 thing is just so.....god damn dude, what the hell. Why would they even DO that? Really? I shouldn't even have to point out how this isn't true. I expect we'll see Goblin in the 2nd film (and Gwen's death as well) and no one else.

Well it's kinda cool because they finally have someone worthwhile to crawl as well besides Spidey. That scene was pretty cool.

Well, they had Venom in SM3, but they didn't take advantage and have some amazing fight scene between the two. It's really a missed opportunity, like rest of the movie did.

That's why I said a worthwhile villain because Venom was useless and they didn't use his abilities wisely.

We won't know anything until Webb tells us or we see the movie. All of this is speculation.

So what do you guys think after this new trailer ? Win or fail ? I personally loved it but there are people now saying there is no story to it. It seems people are just looking to hate for the sake of it now.

yup. That about explains the hate left for this movie tbh. Anyone who says theres no story is pulling crap outa their ass

People have said the previous trailer showed too much. And now people are saying this trailer showed too much. I don't think we've seen anything at all. Sony is in a tight spot. They don't have the luxury of screwing around with story at this point. They've got to sell the fact that this movie is going have everything you'd expect a spider-man movie to have and more. The two previous trailers already gave us story anyway.

Tombstone or Hammerhead or even Silvermane. I've been clamoring for someone to inject that element in Spidey's movies because it's such a big part of his story and the motivation of a lot of his villains. Plus, I feel like there's a lesson he needs to learn by tangling with the guys who not only have power through money, but politics as well; he'd learn that good and bad doesn't always matter in this world because with enough money and clout, you can get out of anything.

I really like this idea. Agreed my man.

Epic Win

[BLACKOUT]Peter being a lab rat for his father's experiments[/BLACKOUT] is giving me a horrible flashback to Ang Lee's Hulk...

I seriously hope they do not go this route and make the Parker's seem like crazy, science fanatics that would put their own son at risk...

If it's true about the new origin idea of Peter's dad experimenting on him, then...I don't know. I don't want to get TOO excited now because if that change is accurate, I can't enjoy the movie fully as I hate that idea. Hated it with Hulk and I'll hate it if it shows up in TAS-M. But, nonethelsss, I do still like Hulk, so would that change keep me away from enjoying the film? No, not really, but it won't make it an incredible film, imo.

Does nobody have a problem with the trailer suggesting an origin similar to
the Hulk i.e. manipulation of a child's DNA? I never liked the totem storyline in the comics, suggesting the spider chose Peter in the latest line of Spider-Men, and I don't like movie Peter Parker becoming Spider-Man as a result of his Dad's research.
I want to love this movie, but the more I hear about the plot the more concerns I have.

At first I was a little skeptical about the first person view.. But it looked really good. I'm excited to see the wall fight between Lizzie and Spidey. It was also great to see how terrified Gwen looked when Lizard walked by.

It's a STUPID idea.

Its stupid but I can deal with it.

But as someone else pointed out.... people complain about them rehashing the origin but when its shown it could be different, people freak about it not being the traditional one.

At least I'm not the only one with concerns about Hulk Spidey. But, it's not the only part of the origin I hate. In order to make Peter desperate to find his parents, this movie makes Uncle Ben seem like a jerk to his nephew. I didn't mind the changes that Sam Raimi made to Aunt May's character because she was still portrayed as a loving mother substitute to Peter. Raimi simply got rid of comic May's unreasonable fear of Spider-Man. However, comic Ben is being changed to someone who isn't patient or kind to Peter to make this unnecessary change in the origin work.

It's stupid, and while I can deal with it as I dealt with it in Hulk, it's still a STUPID idea.

Now it's quite frankly a joke whenever someone says this movie will be more faithful to the comics than Raimi's trilogy because that new origin shouldn't be in TAS-M. It's just too drastic to think it's a good idea. So people are supposed to say that Peter's bad luck started way back when his dad used him as a lab rat? Lol.

Where did you get this idea? No where does it seem like Webb made Uncle Ben a jerk to Peter.
