The Amazing Spider-Man The Amazing Spider-Man General Discussion & Speculation Thread - Part 10

Personally I'm one of those who think Shocker could make a great movie Spider-man villain. I don't think he should be the main villain, but a back up villain. I think Shocker works best as a street level rival to Spider-man and a criminal for hire.

You know, I totally agree with you! And one thing I think is pretty funny is that, at least to my observation (which is just something I think), is that it seems like Shocker is extremely popular. I've read and heard countless times where he's mentioned as one of the favourites. Often when he's mentioned, there are always alot of people saying stuff like "oh man, I love Shocker!". It's just that people don't think he would fit in a movie as a serious threat I guess.

But IMO, while Shocker maybe wouldn't be able to hold a film completely on his own, I definitely think he's one of the villains that would actually work very well on the big screen. Maybe as a criminal for hire as you said. The one not scheming the evil plans, but doing the dirty work.

His costume would look perfect as it is as well, wouldn't need lots of changes at all. Would look great with these awesome colours this film has.

Not only that, but his whole personality is so great as well if you ask me! He's a badass at first glimpse. He has this badass "this is my job" kind of body expression and voice. But then you also notice that he's a very human villain with self distance, and he's not a psychopath by any means.

I just love how stylistic this movie looks & feels! Exactly what I wanted it to be. From this trailer I can honestly say that this movie doesn't give a "nolanized spider-man"-vibe anymore

I liked Avengers, It was an entertaining movie but personally speaking, I prefer story driven movies with action which is why I am looking forward to The Amazing Spider-Man and The Dark Knight Rises more.

This new trailer has confirmed what I was feeling, that this looks a lot better version of Spidey than previous movies, as good as they are (in their own way) I always felt that they failed to capture the essence of Spider-Man's character.

Sorry for the randomness...

Also did anybody watch all of the trailers that are available on the iTunes site? I only watched the US, Japanese and English Int trailers and they've got a few subtitle differences, nothing major. E.g. the English Intl trailer's ending doesn't have the blue gas/magic thing that shoots from the top of the Oscorp building.

this

This also kind of relates to the game, but Beenox said that Dr. Connors has a role in the game as well and there's some footage of Spidey fighting inmates inside of a prison. So maybe Spidey visits Dr. Connors in prison in the game to question about the Iguana and other leftovers.

Maybe...

If that would make sense to the story, I'd love that!

Yeah but Batman Begins didn't have mindblowing action either. With this however, I think people expect even better action next time (which they'd obviously get with Green Goblin) and as spectacular action in the third. Which is why I think Mysterio won't be in a movie on his own if he's in a sequel. It would just feel too weird to suddenly have the physical threat downgraded so much compared to this spectacle.

I was thinking of Electro actually. I think he has a big chance. But with him, there would still not be as cool brawling as in here I think. I'd go with Doc Ock, but I'm not too sure Webb or the audience would want him after SM2 since he was good enough there. With this whole parent angle this trilogy takes, I actually think it will be Venom again! :/ If I'm right, I hope Webb & Co makes him really cool.

They probably will. I don't know if they'll use an alien origin, but I'm thinking he probably wants to make the Venom suit behave like ultimate Venom does, meaning the stuff with tentacles, eating people and so on

I may as well comment on this since it's on my mind but I don't have an issue with Peter's dad being involved with his origins as spider man, mainly because I don't think it changes the character of Peter. It may alter some of his motivations but who Peter is and who spider man is don't seem changed by that based on what I've seen. I know some people didn't like this, but I liken it to when JMS altered his origin with the whole spider totem idea and it being destiny that Peter get bit and he's part of a long history of "spider-men." It made for some interesting stories and some not so interesting but he was still the same guy, just trying to solve a new mystery. Plus, I've always been the wait and see type so I'd rather see it play out first. Execution is everything

Even though I knew about the joke before, the delivery that Andrew had on the "You found my weakness! It's small knives!" cracked me up

I hope Andrew's Peter quips a lot and is the trickster Marc said he would be

Yeah they'd definitely go the Ultimate road with Venom. I think Venom is very likely to appear in ASM3. I have no doubt that Venom could be extremely cool, especially with Webb directing. But I'm not sure I want to see the whole black suit stuff all over again.

What speaks against this is that it would possibly feel too much like this film all over again. Peter finds out about his old friend Eddie Brock Jr. Then he discovers that EBJr's dad co-worked with Richard on a cancer suit and that they died in a plane crash. Then Peter goes to Oscorp again, finds a sample of the black goo, and then eventually there's a villain from that same source.

I personally think he wont be a part of his origin. It's not that I have something against that, I'm actually quite fine with the idea, but somehow I'm getting the vibe that Peter's dad just created the spider, nothing more. And the guy that says "You think what happened to you Peter was an accident?" probably just believes in destiny and means that Peter was destined to be a hero and stuff like that

That's what I'm thinking too. I'm guessing his dad is a geneticist and he was doing experiments on spiders and it just happened. Which is one reason taking some quotes from trailers can be silly because there is no context and lines can be mismatched. Bottom line though, the movie looks incredible

Edit: and if by somehow he is a part of it in a deeper way, I'm fine with it unless the execution sucks

My top choices for the sequel -

Mysterio and Rhino. (team up.)

OR

Green Goblin.

My strategy would be to use one A list villain and use one B list villain as his henchman.

Yeah, the execution of the story is probably the biggest factor for how this all plays out. I'm not too excited about the idea of changing this part of the origin but I'm not against it either. If it works...it works. Every time you have a retelling of a story, no matter who it is about, there is almost always going to be some changes made. You can either accept them and move on or hate it and not like it but you most certainly cannot avoid it.

Ugh. I don't mind Ultimate Venom origin so much in TASM sequels (an adaption of it may even fit better with the Oscorp storyline in sequels), but we could do without the tentacled hulk-like Venom that needs to eat people.

I'm not sure on who all of those are. I can name the obvious ones, but there's a couple I'm not sure on. Also, I'm liking the Spider symbol on Venom. I wouldn't mind seeing something like that in a TASM sequel.

Talking about the sequel

I think the kingpin would be an awesome villian, him couple with someone like Rhino/Scorpion/Shocker/Electro who would work along side him.I was always fascinated by the idea of a normal human being with unlimited human power working for him being the villian.A psychopath or power hungry freak

Exactly. It is what it is at this point and as long as its written well and there is a point to it, I'm good. Can't wait till July

He's still tied up with Daredevil's film rights I believe. Shame, because Kingpin would make a great movie villain for Spidey.

If it wasn't for Fox owning the rights to Kingpin, I think he would be a great villain in this series.

That would be really cool! And he has some potential for awesome brawls with Spidey as well!

I keep thinking of how they handled him in TSSM and how awesome it was. I'd love to see Webb's take on him for TASM.

He still had super strenght in TSSM, right? Otherwise, a mix of that and the 90's TAS version of him would be cool.
