So whats with these "extremely negative" reactions in early screenings? I've seen this mentioned on several forums regarding this film, yet I have no clue where this info is coming from.

It would be funny if Osborn just didn't appear at all in TASM and turned out to be Iron Patriot in IM3. Though since we have Oscorp in TASM it make it even more strange and out of place.

I don't know what you're referring to...

Looks like he's got some Marvel experience under his belt already. He was in those awful Ultimate Avengers movies as Bruce Banner. He's got a good voice though.

But characters introduced are also based on how this movie ends, which none of us have any idea about. In truth, at least to me, the only character you mentioned that HAS to be introduced is Jameson and that's because the daily bugle has a presence in this movie and this universe, plus I'm sure Pete is still going to get some kind of employment at the bugle. But Harry may not be a definite and MJ may not be either. When you're writing, you think about all of those angles and what you want to happen down the line, which is why it's good James Vanderbilt wrote the first treatment for the sequel because it was his story to begin with, so he knew where he wanted to take it. The new guys said they got their marching orders as to what direction to go in and now they're working on it and if a third writer or group of writers is brought in, it'll be the same. Whoever they introduce, it has to make sense, don't just put them in for the hell of it. If they don't plan on doing anything with MJ, don't put her in just to please the fans..same with Harry

While you're correct in saying one has to introduce characters only if they make sense, I disagree with the notion that J. Jonah Jameson is the ONLY character that has to be introduced.

First of all, we know that Norman Osborn is going to show up in these new movies at some point, given how Oscorp appears to be at the center of virtually everything. And if Norman is there, then Harry also has to be there, as Norman's relationship with his son is a key component to his character, not to mention Harry becoming Peter's best friend is also vital for what is to come. Also, let's not forget that it's more than likely that, at the end of this film, Captain Stacy is going to die, and that Peter and Gwen break up because of it. Well guess who would walk into Peter's life to run interference between them ever more? Mary Jane Watson, of course. Remember, in the original comics, Aunt May arranges for Peter to go on a blind date with her, and how great would that be to have a movie version of "Face it Tiger--you just hit the jackpot" scene? Plus the dynamic between Peter, Gwen, and MJ is considered to be the classic love triangle in Spider-Man comics.

I think that is part of the same rumor that Sony executives hate The Amazing Spider-Man. Kevin Feige saw the movie and loved it, so...

The Lee curse. Not exactly that Bruce and Brandon died the same way, but dying too young in their lives. Still say Bruce was murdered though.

And also...the comparisons between Lee as Eric and Heath Ledger as Joker are so uncanny.

The Crow will always be one of my favorites.
It is a fantastic movie, at least we're getting an actor from the crow in TASM though right?

Funboy, yah. Masse is actually the guy who pulled the trigger on the gun that ended up killing Lee. It was an accident of course, but it's kinda freaky when thinking about it.

Maybe in this alternate universe...Norman doesn't have a son...

I never said Norman doesn't have to be included, I was going off of the context Picard and I were talking about and the characters he mentioned. The reason I don't think the way you do is because I don't want characters shoehorned in a movie just for the hell of it..Venom, Gwen Stacy, Captain Stacy and Spider-man 3 showed what happens when you toss a character in just because they "have to be there." Yes Harry and Pete's relationship is key for a story but until we see THIS movie, none of us have any idea how key any other character is except Norman. That's it. The worst thing you can do as a writer is put stuff in just for the hell of it or as a service to the fans..if it doesn't serve your narrative or takes away from it, then don't put them in. I'd love to see a triangle between MJ Gwen and Pete but I want it to make sense and have a reason for being there. One reason I love what Nolan has done with Batman, is the fact that he's for the most part, remained true to the characters without being a slave to comic continuity. He and his writers took the characters and put them in different situations to see how they'd react as opposed to be slavish to how something happened, where and with whom in comic continuity.

What happens if Gwen and Pete don't break up at the end of this movie if Stacy dies? And based on her knowing he's spider-man beforehand, and of course without seeing the movie yet, I don't see why she would break up with him. The movies are their own separate universe so things can go in different directions than they did in the comics and that's a good thing to me, because I have comics, I've seen that. Spectacular Spider-Man took liberties with when characters were introduced and how (Gwen, Harry, Peter, Ock, Toomes, etc.) and it worked beautifully

It does haunt him. He refuses to watch/has never seen the movie. Poor guy. :(

But yeah, Masse is awesome! I'm really hoping he is Norman. That would be SO legit!

Finally saw the 3D trailer yesterday before Prometheus (which is amazing), and it looked incredible, I'm a big 3D buff and my jaw dropped in the webslinging sequences. The 3D looked more toned down in the regular character scenes.

word :yay:

The new stuff in the small trailer above looks amazing, there is however some sketchy CGI when Pete jumps from the top of a building (not in costume) and shoots a web. It'll probably look great in 3D, it made it look so good in the trailer I've seen, especially the way Spidey comes out of the screen, and you can feel the practical webslinging.
