How in the world do you know that? It has been confirmed time and time again that her role is MINOR. Yes, she did have a purpose in the movie, and that purpose was to introduce the character for future films. That's it.

I highly doubt she had any purpose in the main plot for TASM2.

because you dont introduce a character '' hello i am MJ'' , show her watchign spiderman fight Rhino and then end it with her talking to Gwen before she dies. this is not how this works. she would have some scenes at the end to tease her relationship with Peter in future movies.

Flash is a minor character. and he worked in the story. with MJ she would just be thrown on the screen to have some small talk with Peter,Gwen and watch a fight? agaaaaaaaaaaain think about it.

To me, the interview felt more like "Does my character become Black Cat? I dunno..."

She might as well be someone like Betty Brant and thought "Maybe she becomes Black Cat??".

also major point if sony reacted with fanboys about mj being ugly and replaced her because of that then they would have surely replace jamie foxx as electro becausee as i remember whne news first came and pics of him as electro surfaced there was not a good response to his skin color and the costume which is fkrin awesome to me but sony didnt replace him or cut him explain that then sony doesnt listen to fanboys when it comes to a small role that has no significance anyway and people have come to exept and like electro in a few weeks or months this mj thing will be dropped

Same. It'd make sense since Webb is trying to introduce and set up this universe, and I wouldn't be surprised if she isn't Felicia but in the future becomes Black Cat. But I don't think she's playing her either.

you can not twist this news into something positive. this is a big change and this means that they are doing big changes with the movie.

You don't cut something for the hell of it. You cut something that doesn't work for whatever reason. Either the script is mediocre, maybe they're making it up as they go along, or they never had a plan to begin with. The other possible fear is pressure from the studio. None of these things is a "good thing."

Also to that Bane example someone gave? HORRIBLE example. So, what, Bane lost one scene - big deal - that happens. Now if you go into TDKR and take out all the scenes including DAGGET? THAT would be more akin to what's going on here.

If she was a cameo that would be one thing, but it's hard-pressed to believe MJ was just a cameo that had no reason for being there other than just being there. Only a piss poor screenplay would have a character in a film that serves no point at all. So either the script is mediocre to bad that they can do this and lose nothing or this is (as most likely) going to be a big problem they need to find some way to address and fill in the holes for. You don't cut something that works, you cut something that doesn't work and impacts the film in a negative way. Not just, "oh, we have more Spidey films, Gwen doesn't die (as we knew from the start) so let's delete her and find some way to fill in those holes so the audience doesn't notice." Film doesn't work that way.

Eh. I don't think they'd do that. MJ is a huge storyline and role in Peter's life if not the hugest love interest. They couldn't go with some route that Peter ends up with her and marrying her, replacing MJ's role.

It's like Jennifer Lawrence. Her Hunger Games schedule conflicted with DOFP and because of it, DOFP's production ended up getting moved back an entire year.

Sony, having a fixed release schedule for there next 3 sequels (2, 3, 4), can't afford to do that. So, they probably tried to negotiate up until recently when it was decided to cut Shailene's MJ scenes, and do proper intro with a lead role and with a new actress in ASM3.

Her Divergent schedule has been an issue since she was first cast. Odds are its the reason MJ's ASM2 role was small to begin with. They probably decided that the few scenes her schedule allowed for this time wasn't worth saving and that its a problem better resolved before its too late and why we are where we are.

Wow, you know what you're talking about.

It looks like she was going to meet Peter (by whatever means), and get friendly with him as seen in the scene they filmed talking together by Peter's bike. Then at some other time she shows up by his house to talk to him, and runs into Gwen Stacy. They introduce each other, and IDK how much could have come out of that.

Then we have another scene with Gwen witnessing a battle while she is working.

Really, how much more could there be?

her role was not big the script was already written but they found no need for mj to be in it and didnt mar webb say the movie would be atleast 3hrs long??? so why build up on time when u can just cut an unneeded part from the movie and save for tasm 3

What's so unlikely about showing characters before becoming villains, saving the villains for later installments? We know Webb is building a bigger Spidey world, we know they'll want to include Sinister 6 at some part. This is a good way of introducing the characters.

I don't get what's so hard to understand about that.

I remember the 2009 Star Trek movie had originally featured Kirk's older brother, but they cut out almost all of his scenes because they felt it was unnecessary. Instead they left in a shot of the same actor walking while Kirk was driving his step-dad's car.
