From what we've heard so far Spider-Man's origin this time around has direct connection with the rest of the movie and even the later movies in the series.
In this take everything's revolving around Oscorp, that's where Pete gits bit, that's where the Lizard is created, that's where Gwen works and that's also obviously going to lead to the creation of the Green Goblin (which I'm am very positive will be showing up in this series)
We also know that obviously the origin story is what leads into Spider-Man actually becoming a hero, which also in turn causes Gwen's father to go after him, him being the secondary antagonist in this movie. Oscorp being a central place for Peter to go to to spend time with Gwen (and meet Connors too for that matter) means that it is also a location that also pushes forward Pete/Gwen's relationship.
And, in an ironic conclusion, Oscorp, a place that helped Peter find love and give him a purpose, will later take it away once Gobby kills Gwen.
So yep, I'm pretty sure its safe to say that everything is tied together very well in this movie
