At least the scenes with Bruce accomplished what they were going for and that's being funny. People in the theater laughed.

With this scene from TASM you'll probably hear a chuckle or two and few coughs.

I think the clip kinda showcased how real the people feel in this movie. If you think that the scene was supposed to be super funny, then you're probably missing the point

The only real thing in that scene was the terribly ineffective stammering from Garfield and the half asleep dribble the doorman was telling him.

Like I've said this scene should stay on the cutting room floor. It was clearly going for situational humor and it missed the mark.

Except this scene wasn't supposed to be "OHOHOHO HUR DUR IT'S DUH WRESTLING ANNOUNCER AND THE DOORMAN FROM THE OTHER MOVIES PLAYING A MAITRE D IN THIS" funny.

It shouldn't be compared to Bruce Campbell's scenes in the previous movies because it's not the same humour style.

One is exaggerated and is supposed to get a "lol" reaction and the other is something that's imitating (and imo, successfully has) a real life situation and reactions to said situation.

No it wasn't... This wasn't a "Bruce Cambell scene" and was supposed to be very subtle.

Feet on the boss desk, feet on the boss desk :venom:

That did crack me up :oldrazz:

Anyway, going back to the Doorman, wouldn't Peter just call Gwen to pick him up at the entrance? I mean seriously. Unless he ran out of minutes or something. I'm trying to make sense of this scene.

In the trailer I kind of assumed he "wall-crawled" all the way up to Gwen's place because he thought it would be fun, he wanted to test his Spidey powers, and just came up with a charming quip when Gwen questions him.

Your the one that brought up Bruce Campbell and I only said that "at least they accomplished what they were going for" which for Raimi was a much more traditional form of playful banter that was effective. I never said that's the exact type of humor they were going for in this scene now did I?

Whereas this scene for TASM drops the ball in using quirky situational humor which actually felt inspired in 500 Days of Summer unlike this scene which is a complete throwaway bromidic scene.

I'm not the first one that's compared this scene to Bruce's in the previous trilogy.

And got it. You think this scene sucked.

Anyways, going by the reactions on YouTube, there's more people who like it than there are people who don't. Which is good. :D

Here's how the situation plays in real life.

Peter: I'm Peter Parker. I'm here to see the Stacys.
Doorman: I'll call up.

It's neither funny nor real life. It's an inauthentic setup without a payoff.

Yep. Because that's the only way it could go. Right?

I wonder how many weeks this "the clip was/wasn't good because" stuff is going to go on for.

That is the only way it would go in real life. Unless Peter Parker is mentally defective.

It's a contrived scenario, to say the least. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the clip hits the cutting room floor. The quip at the end doesn't need the contrived setup and probably plays better without it.

Anyone heard that rumor that when Andrew first got the part of Spider Man he tried to reach out to Toby and get some tips but Toby sort of just dissed him. Any truth to that rumor?

He's a teenager going to see his girlfriend. Everything's going fine until this doorman starts questioning him on the contents of his bag and why he's going to see his girlfriend. He's mentally defective for being a little phased by that? :whatever:

I heard the opposite. That Andrew got Tobey's blessing. :funny:

No, it's complete BS.

Tobey reached out to Garfield through a mutual friend and wished him the best of luck.
"[Maguire] sent me a lovely message through a mutual friend. He gave me his support and it meant a great deal of course because part of the reason I love and have continued to love this character was because of his portrayal. To step into those shoes is no mean feat," Garfield said during a recent appearance on BBC News.

"It was generous of him to reach out and say something," he added. "So I'm thankful."

Okay lol people sure do know how to twist words around on the web ha ha.

He's going to see his girlfriend because he was invited over.

I don't mind that they're trying to show Peter being awkward. But, the execution has to match the attempt. They're trying way too hard here and creating an unnatural scenario. A ridiculously easily solved scenario as well.

What's more, it's unnecessary. If you want to see Peter awkwardly struggle with an authority figure, you have one Captain Stacy to play that card with. A struggle that has consequences and effects the plot. This has no consequences. It would be like the scene with Bruce Campbell as the Usher, only Peter uses his powers to get into the theater anyways.

This is in no way saying that TASM isn't going to be a good movie. But, it is questioning whether this is the best they can lead off with.

That was real cool of Toby to do that :yay:
Indeed.

Yup.

It seemed completely fine to me, but okay.

Disagreed. It's a bit of naturalistic humour to lighten the tone of the movie, similar to Bruce Campbell's scenes, the cheesy dance numbers and the other unnecessary bits like wasting a minute on Peter trying to put a broom in a broom closet in the previous trilogy.

It's not everyone's cup of tea.

Alrighty then.

I think fanboys secretly wanted Maguire to dis Garfield as an excuse to talk some ****.

I think all they needed was a reason for Peter to be at Gwen's window. And this was it.
