The Amazing Spider-Man: The Game - Part 5

Oh, but SM2 had those fun rock musics in the credits. I always sit through them.

The music for the end credits in ASM the game was stunningly beautiful!

Doesn't help when I don't like the blue screen
Friend or Foe has a great end credits screen I like to sit through

Do the comic collectibles in free roam regenerate after you collect so many? I was collecting some last night and after I hit 500 and it went up to 700, I started seeing them in areas where I thought I'd looked already, or would have seen when collecting others.

I got up to 585 before calling it a night. Any advice on collecting the rest?

All the locations are randomized. There's really nothing anyone can do too help you find them. Id recommend searching at night as it makes it easier to see the glow

Once you reach 500, the last 200 show up on your mini-map as yellow dots when you pass them. So just swing around with your mini-map out and whenever a yellow dot shows up on it, that's a comic book page.

LOL! I was wondering what those yellow dots were last night. I was pretty tired after I hit 500 and I just assumed the yellow dots were nearby gunmen who would turn red when I got closer. Guess I was sleepier than I thought. Oh well, should make collecting the last 115 a little easier.

Thanks!

Finally started with the game, finished chapter 3, and what I have to say about it based on what little I played of it is this:
  1. It's FUN, about time we have another good Spider-Man game, last one was Spider-Man 3 from Treyarch, currently that 5 years old game is still my favorite Spider-Man game, it's too soon for me to prefer TASM over SM3
  2. Combat is fun, more fun to play it than it is to watch it is one thing to say, framerate is not so shoddy in gameplay
  3. Web rush is fun, but I don't try to depend on it, I walk more than I use it playing inside missions
  4. It's good to be able to ascend in interior webswinging
  5. Collected 3 comics, that's pretty cool
  6. Whitney Chang is a moron, she's in a shooting gallery and stands in the line of fire to get Connors data, she was killed 2 or 3 times while I was trying to save her, Spidey died twice
  7. Out of two boss fights (S-01 Spidey-Slayer and Rhino), Rhino is too basic in combat, S-01 is fun to fight, I see what they mean about Rhino's boss fight being too basic and mindless. I heard the same about SM3 boss fights, but after playing that game I can't believe this comment regarding SM3 boss fights, not even Rhino, that one has a good fight in SM3, but man is that comment believable when it comes to Rhino's fight in TASM, will need to wait and see how it goes with other bosses
  8. Will hunt for costumes and more comic pages
  9. I knew about the camera view and the forced slow walks long before playing the game, so I will not deduce points on that
  10. Pressing attack followed by the jump button makes an auto combo, that was pretty surprising, and neat

[blackout]Oh, and Web of Shadows is not a Spider-Man game, it's a bad-mediocre game using his name, never considered it a Spider-Man game, I still want to make a video of the many ways to destroy of that game[/blackout]

Ok, Vermin is another bland boss fight
Then comes the slayers, with change of scenery from sewers to over the city, and a pretty fun battle

I'm enjoying this game more, but the thing about "boss fights that aren't robots built to mitigate the bio-hazard are bland" strikes me even truer, and they built real good boss fights in their two earlier entries

BTW, the comment "Who's having a good time? Raise your hands" easily sounds better thrown by Neil Patrick Harris
I like Reigil less as Spider-Man's voice than I originally felt, wish Josh voiced Spidey instead. Don't hate Reigil, I can tolerate Vaughn, so Donatello here easily sounds easier on the ears, but I wish Keaton was the voice

Thought I'd like this one more than Spider-Man 2, but looks to me like I like it as much as Ultimate Spider-Man right now, and that one was my least favorite of the 5 good Spider-Man games, but it is at least a good sign, good Spider-Man game No. 6 is here, and I'm enjoying it
The things this one did better than Spider-Man 2 with all ease:
  • Graphics
  • Voice acting
  • Adding the web rush
  • Spider-Man jumps out of the water instead of the black screen
  • No pre-requisite tasks to move forward in story
..........................................................................

There is one more thing I don't like much about the game, during free roam it has only one track, and barely a moment of silence

Don't remember enough about SM2 tracks, but there was silence
USM has two tracks, and comforting length of no tunes making it fun to listen to the tracks when they rewind
SM3 has plenty, one calm, one heroic, one for city life, and maybe 13 tracks all together for the red & blue suit, and there was still that nice amount of time with no tunes in free roam

They need to fix that fault they made here in future games
...................

Spider-Man babbles too much about everything, that's growing to be annoying, I'm considering playing the rest of this game on mute
What the heck is "Stay Frosty"? Why say this to people he saves from attackers?
......................

It's good, the game is still good, but I'm glad I didn't need to pay for this, cause at the moment I don't think I'd pay more than $30 bucks for a new copy of the game if I was to buy it

I want to say it's very easy, but then I'd be lying, I lost a few time in some parts. Playing on Hero, and I like their decision of making the choice of difficulties available, and replaying missions

Two things it used from the film:
The web lines to follow the vibration, didn't expect the need to move the stick forward to feel the vibration, but I like this move. Good thing they copied it, I like this move
The thing with the car thief knife is fine in that scene, doesn't feel as charming, it feels kinda face cringing
..............................

Too soon for me to rate the game since I'm barely halfway through, but now I'm tempted to give the game grade B-, hopefully it will go better

Ok, since we all know the storylines in most of the Spidey games are kinda hit or miss, I thought of this. Why not have Chameleon as the main villain? The setup for the next game could be Chameleon being hired by Kingpin to frame Spider-Man, Chameleon poses as Spider-Man and actually kills a person in plain sight. Once this occurs, the people of NYC start to doubt Spider-Man, the murders keep stringing along to the point where J. Jonah Jameson with the help of the NYPD issue a manhunt for Spider-Man. In turn, to put up front on his somewhat tarnished image, Kingpin sides with the NYPD as far as helping to catch Spider-Man, even proposing the release of certain villains that Spider-Man has faced in the past, thus creating a new version of the "Sinister Six". Kingpin then hires Dr. Octopus to create a device that will help control some of the more volatile villains like Rhino. In the background, the Kingpin plans to use the villains as somewhat of a tool to gain for the people of the city to grow dependent of, if they manage to kill Spidey, the city would regard them as heroes and at that point they could show their true colors. Basically, the game would revolve around Spidey trying to clear his name, and take out the Sinister Six. Not exactly a story that may occur in the comics, but me and some friends were tossing around ideas for the next Spidey game, so I thought I would share

Huh? I don't know that I've ever tried that. You hit attack once and then hit the jump button? What happens exactly when you do this?

He does a series of kicks every time I press it that way

And yeesh, I didn't say this got combat better than SM2? I missed that
One more thing I find this one did better than SM2 now, missions are more fun, Played the Iguana mission and it's so neat, one of my favorites at the moment
I still like boss fights in SM2 more though, they are better in the 2004 game

Interesting. I don't remember if I've ever done that or not...gonna have to try it the next chance I get. Thanks for mentioning it.

The combat in ASM is by far the best system we've gotten in a Spidey game. Although some things I wish from SM2 they would have included are: webbing up multiple enemies at the same time, disarming enemies (even disarming multiple enemies simultaneously), and being able to dodge bullets. Even without those things ASM's combat is awesome.

I loved that one. I wish there weren't so many levels in the sewers though.

Beenox dropped the ball here. I completely understand that Beenox wasn't able to use some really good A-list villains for the game seeing as how it's a movie tie-in but that doesn't excuse them from making the fights themselves to be so boring and repetitive. Especially considering their good to great work on boss fights in both SD and EoT.

Iv never cared for these elaborate boss battles. I think they're unnecessary. I just wanna see Spidey do cool s**t while punching his enemies in the face. Thats all i need. I agree the battles here were really repetitive, but eh i didn't mind em. Then again tho, iv felt boss battles are an archaic element of game design for quite some time. Ill always appreciate that good battle but if the rest of your game is solid, it won't phase me if the boss battles are flat out awful(looking at you Arkham Asylum)

I like it when a game mixes things up, like you're expecting a boss battle but instead it's an exciting chase scene or an arena match or something. Exhilarating action is what's important, not the boss battle gaming convention. As a gamer, you just want something exciting to punctuate whatever part of the story you've just concluded.

I think Uncharted is a game series that does this will.

Yea I can agree with that.

Rats hurling acid? Really? :cmad:
Lizards hurling acid was tolerated, even MK did that with Reptile
But Vermin and ones infected by him puke acid? :argh:
And that happens because....what? WHAT?

I love boss battles! I definitely don't think that's an archaic thing. Think of it like this: Spider-Man most times faces off against his enemy in some way. It's one thing for Batman where he's stronger than many of his villains and the threat lies more in their plans and thugs only. When it comes to Spider-Man villains, most of them are threatening in their schemes but they are also their own weapons. Spider-Man boss battles should be epic, fun and varying. It only makes sense to have cool boss battles in a Spider-Man game.

But yeah, I agree that a boss battle don't always have to be the classic "Crash Bandicoot" version. Those might feel a little old, indeed. There are many ways to use your imagination when it comes to boss battles. I loved in God of War 3 for example when you think you're about to battle Hermes, you chase him instead and then you fight him when he's weakened. I love in Arkham Asylum that instead of fighting Killer Croc, you have to sneak unnoticed, or instead of fighting Scarecrow you enter nightmares.

I think that story always should come first. If the story calls for a game with only 4-5 villains, then so be it. If the story calls for a classic boss fight, then go for it. If the story calls for a chase, go for it. If the story calls for something completely different, like facing a villain in some imaginating way without fighting or chasing him (I'm thinking of Chameleon or Mysterio here), then go for that. It's how you presentate the story that really matters. Sometimes a classic boss fight ala "Crash Bandicoot" can really hurt the pacing of the game, sometimes it's needed. So I don't want boss fights just for the sake of it, but if done well those should be really fun. Just don't do it like Shattered Dimensions where you completed one level, fought a boss, completed another level, fought a boss etc. Now that's archaic because that's like the old Super Mario games haha! And it made the game feel unconnected.

I totally agree! I love things like that, which is also why I don't get all the hate for the Arkham Asylum encounters. Sure, the actuall battles were very weak, but I loved Scarecrow and Killer Croc in there.

You're right about the Uncharted series. Those barely have boss fights, yet you don't really miss them. However, that's a totally different kind of game than a Spider-Man one. With Spider-Man, you'd really miss to use your powers on a classic foe in an epic battle. But yeah, overall I agree with what you said.

Hahahaha I felt the exact same way! Beenox were so unimaginative when it comes to the bosses. I was really surprised by that, as UWH said, they dropped the ball there. But I expect them to do much better next time because they really listen to their fans.

Oh, and Aziz, you made some great posts about the game. I agree with many of your points.

The way I see, a Spider-Man game must have boss battles. They are the climax of the challenges we go through. In Uncharted it's one thing. It's a different game. Spidey has a gallery of villains. There's just so many and their powers make them really different from each other. It's not like they are just common persons porting guns.
Even in comics and movies he faces them after he defeats the common thugs.

But you don't need a boss fight in every Spidey level, you just need an exciting and climactic action scene. It could be something like the bridge scene in ASM, you've got to save a number of civilians quickly or something. Boss fights don't have to be as frequent as they are

I didn't say it needs a battle in every level. I said it needs boss battles. As much as the number of villains in the game is probably fine, depending on the number. When we're controlling a superpowered hero, we need stronger opponents to test our own strenght.

Finished the game 6 hours ago, and this is the first game I finish this fast, usually it takes me two weeks or more to go through one game, I started playing this game two days ago

Didn't expect to say so, after 3 stinkers in a row I feel the need to call this one my favorite Spider-Man game, period, don't feel like playing any of the older Spidey games I like
Factory missions remind me of the Wolverine game, and the cannon part reminds me of Sentinel mission
Does the composer have an affection for Terminator? At least the theme? Sometimes the first five notes of the T theme play in factory missions
Stan calling Peter about the credit card and telling him "You must be living in an AMAZING FANTASY" was amazingly hilarious, didn't expect laughing
After credits scene was pretty fun to watch

Wow. I wasn't really sure how you'd feel about the game but I certainly did not expect to hear this. I'm glad you liked it so much though cause I pretty much feel the exact same way.

You heard the Terminator tune as well? Glad I'm not alone

Something interesting my brother did with the game, he played a new game and got this glitch, 441 freeflow strikes
