There's no if and or buts that the core heart of the book has always been Aunt May along with Mary Jane/Gwen, or whatever girl Peter was dating/married to.

There's no arguing that, even Marvel has said that before. To say ''The book needs less of Peter's Aunt and the girl who he dates (because BL seems to be disinterested in Carlie as well), means he wants to take away that just so Peter can swing around the city and **** Black Cat.

That's not what Spider-Man is about. That's what Iron Man is about.

- swing around the city

- fight crime (supervillains, purse snatchers, whatever)

- eat pie

- tap some Black Cat ass

that about covers what Id want out of Spider-Man

Meh, one man's genuine complaints are another man's example of whining. We're invested in this fandom and care about what happens to characters we've been following for years. (In some cases, decades) If one is really invested in something and all of a sudden what they perceive to be an irritating and unjust change occurs, they're not just going to go, "oh well" and roll over. They'll voice their distaste. It's like a sports team someone ADORES and the adoration is rooted to their location and what they represent; grandfather followed and loved 'em, father followed and loved, and then bam, son follows and raises his kids to follow and love the team. All of a sudden, they're bought up and traded from your home town, re-branded, and crapped on till they're unrecognizable from what you once knew.

Yeah I'm from Cleveland, so I get this.

I do....Jesus didn't stay on the cross this long, I get 6 maybe 8 months later...but its been 2 f'ng years

seriously

either accept it or move on to something else....like starting an online petition to revive Dollhouse or Firefly

I'm sorry, but no.

Here in subjectivity land, just because something IS doesn't make it any GOOD. Hell, I'm still pissed that they took Reaper off the air.

I just want to add that the ONLY woman who really counts in the Spider-Mythos is (and always will be) Aunt May.

However, whether someone believes that is irrelevant to their love of Spider-Man...in my opinion.

:yay:

It's not just Carlie. Peter worries about his boss in this issue too, I'll give Slott some credibility since he's shown in the past he can remember years of continuity let alone his own and trust him with where he's going, but I still don't care for Carlie and the more and more she gets in the spotlight the less and less I like her.

I have a flash of insight on Carli,.. and I'm not sharing,... but I'll bet you'll figure it out after too long,...:wow:

Well bill I won't disagree with you at all on that because I agree.... but let's not forget peters heart and morals are still the main heart and core of the book. But he'd not be the same man he is without the women in his life. Sure a lot goes to been... but all the learning there after came from his women... what may, betty, gwen, mj, felicia. Imo spideys always been a great book to showcase the power of women and how behind every great man (gay or straight for that matter) is a powerful woman. Peter reminds me very much as a man who's been raised by women and like that perfect noble and sensative guy that was the only male in the family and grew upwith a bunch of sisters. He's just that kinda guy to me. He's not shovenistic, he's not a manly man, he's not a *****e, he's the awkward sweetheart with bad luck. The kinda girl women don't want when there younger, but the kind they realise they need when there older.

Sounds kinda like you want deadpool with webshooters......

not entirely a bad thing and tons better than what you want....some neutured whipped hand wringing wussy machine

Hate all you want.... but women especially may, gwen, and mj have always been integeral to the spidey mythos.... hell part of his troubles have always been the women in his life. You'd be a fool to deny that. Spider-man has always had a soap opera element

Spider-Man is the ultimate Comic Book Soap Opera always has and still is. What BL wants is pretty much Batman or Iron Man.

What about Uncle Ben?

What about Uncle Ben?

I mentioned ben in one of my posts. But after his death when he was 15... he was raised by women. He became a man by teachings from women. No doubt bens motto helped push him and propel him to be the man he is. But the guys been dead half of his life now.

JAB, let's not get into a real-fan pissing contest here. Guys like me and TMOB have been reading Amazing since the mid 70s, and we have no problem with what's going on. Some like Spider-Gnome have been reading just as long and don't like the changes. None of it has anything to do with "how much of a fan you are." Frankly, I place people who make judgements like that way down on the totem-pole.

Since the early 70's, actually...

Yey! Nice to be mentioned. :yay: Us old folk need to stick together. :woot:

You're right. Although we disagree alot, I recognize you as a true fan (as well as TMOB). Ooops, was that me making a judgement?

Yeah, but Uncle Ben dies in AF #15, and Peter moves out by ASM #46...

I wouldn't exactly say he was "raised by women"... he was raised by a loving husband & wife... yes, Aunt May was very influencial to Peter during those early years, but Peter's character had already been in place by the teachings of a loving Uncle and a loving Aunt.

So if they lived together under common law.... didn't break up for good after the wedding (which was sadly the most logical reason we were given to call it quits...) she stayed with him... still had baby may? And went through everything up to aunt may getting shot.... but mysteriously ditched him for good after allllll that) .......... what the hell? I woulda rather they just broke up after the no wedding and have her now just come back during bnd.... I mean seriously... it makes no sense for peter to ever even been weary around her during bnd etc... ugh.... marvel actually one-uped the clone saga.....

I believe in the "new" continuity, meaning after the events of OMD/OMIT, according to Marvel, MJ never got pregnant. That would not make sense in light of OMIT.

As far as continuity, think of it like Back to the Future. In that movie, Marty's dad is a shlub and mother alcoholic at the beginning. Reading through Spidey the first time, Pete & MJ get married and MJ gets pregnant. Marty goes back in time and Pete makes the Mephisto deal. At the end of BTTF, Marty's parents are successful. Now in the comics Pete & MJ lived together (and MJ never got pregnant). This is how all the comics make sense.

Lord knows I don't like defending all this, but that is how it works.

Funny thing talking about "What If's?" in the Thought/Bought 12/15 thread, Marvel shows us What If's where one little thing makes huge changes in the Marvel Universe. With OMD/OMIT they try to tell us almost NOTHING changes because Pete & MJ never married. :whatever:

With regards to the scene between Peter, Mary Jane, and Carlie at Horizon Labs, and after quite a bit of discussion about it over at Scans Daily in TWO separate threads, it appears there may in fact be A LOT of subtext going on in those particular panels which might have been initially overlooked. Granted, this is probably a combination of wishful thinking, over-reading, and playing devil's advocate on my part (and I'm not sure whether this is worthy of being it's own thread) but looking at the scene again, here's what I'm now picking up and which has been brought to may attention. First, here are the two panels in question:

Thanks for your insight on that scene, stillanerd, particularly the MJ saying "perfectly logical explanation" was aimed at Pete. I didn't read it that way, so it sounded like she was being too obvious in her cover-up, thus out of character. Your way reads much better!

Also, interesting thoughts on "Stuff MJ Wouldn't Understand Anyway." It makes sense. But, I just think Dan didn't feel like coming up with the scientific jargon. :oldrazz:

why not? you want sensitive male heroes, go read indie comics

No I want every character to be unique and interesting. Not a dull male action hero sterwotype. I want to be inspired and have heroes to look up too. People who feel real. Not a strait male wet dream of pootang

I'm just saying he learned a lot from the women in his life
