Plus, I doubt she'd be interested in playing second fiddle to the extent that a superhero love interest requires. I have to say, I was perfectly ok with Shailene. I'm sure she would have been a good-to-great MJ.

Emma Stone just proved in the last two films though that a superhero love interest doesn't have to be second fiddle, I thought her character was strong and stood up on her own. You're right though, it's a downgrade from being the main person in the hunger games and a pretty big character in X-men.

The more I think about it, the more I think that maybe these films should have just kept Gwen, can't think of a TASM film without her in it :( Sad times

For people that have seen it. How is the death of Gwen handled?? Is it like in the comics where spidey's web line snaps her neck or does something else happen? Also, what was the crowds reaction to her death? Was it like the shocking like Rachel's death in Dark Knight or just meh/okay?

People cried in my cinema twice, and the other time the little kid said "wake up already" Most of the time, you could here a pin drop, nobody moved a muscle, nobody was eating or shuffling. Little bits of sobbing.

As for the actual scene? Blew rachael's death out of the water in my opinion. That particular scene, Andrew's raw emotion and the aftermath just after the death scene is some of the strongest stuff I've scene in any movie, especially a comic book movie. Truely heartbreaking if you're invested in the characters that Andrew and Emma created. It was more human, felt like we watched a real person die, and a real person in complete shock and despair. Absolutely beautiful scene.

It's pretty similar to the comics, except [BLACKOUT]Harry does the deed and it's in a clocktower. Gwen falls, peter webs her and she is safe, dangling by a web, but it gets cut, she falls, peter goes after her, webs her but it is too late, she gets really close to the ground and it is up in the air whether it was whiplash or contact with the ground.[/BLACKOUT]

Thanks! Wow I can't wait to see this movie, some of my friends aren't comic book readers but they loved the Peter and Gwen dynamic in the first film. So I am sure they are gonna be shocked.

Yeah I took my family, similar to what you described. They were shocked but they loved it

Just come back from my second viewing (IMAX). For me, not only is this my favorite Spider-Man movie of all time it is my favorite superhero movie of all time, period. No other superhero movie has made me laugh and cry in this manner. Thank you mark, thank you Andrew, thank you Emma, thank you Jamie and Daan. I want the blu ray to hurry up so I can watch this movie over and over again.

That's a little bit of an exaggeration. It's a sad moment and Garfield sold it really well. Best part of the movie in an otherwise Shumacher-esque flick of hamminess. But i dont see how it's shocking. It's the most predictable thing for this movie, everybody expects it to happen, especially in that way. The way she falls. That she would fall and die no matter what, but she dies before she even hits the ground due to Spideys web snapping her neck.

You cant compare it because there was a build up towards her death through the film. Even the marketing had something to do with it. The scene they have on top of the bridge was an obvious final scene thrown in there, with all the happiness, before something bad was going to happen. Rachels was unexpected and was more of a cold, shocking death and it was more about Bruce and everybody just being in shock rather than having some human meltdown with her dead body. Which was needed for Spider-Man, but you cant compare the two.

I still think that ending doesn't fit with the tone of this movie at all. It's like if you took TDK scene or something along those lines and threw it in the final act of Shumacher's Batman Forever. It just doesn't mesh.

Everything else about the movie was pure camp.

I didn't feel a flicker of emotion when Rachel died. The only reason I was slightly bothered is bothered Bruce was bothered. I was crying like a baby for Gwen because she created such a warm and rich character it is heart breaking.

:whatever: i guess ill just leave this thread lol, since i can't relate whatsoever to the people who think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. I dont see how anyone can enjoy the villains which are clearly made with a 6 year old target audience in mind. With writing that is so bad, especially regarding the parents and the formulas. The intro which has some of the worst CG ive seen in a while, with bad acting from 2 actors/characters that nobody really cares about. Billy Idol's Goblin doing the deed to Gwen, with zero build up. He has 1 scene as the Goblin, does that iconic thing, then forms the sinister six. The movie is basically a trailer for S6.

It's basically the Shumacher of Spidey movies along with Spider-Man 3.

Peace out.

Seconded

If i dont leave this thread, it's because you and a couple of others actually agree with me, therefore i dont think im crazy. My friend saw it and couldnt believe what a piece of **** it was LOL.

You're not supposed to, only shock and awe. 2 different situations call for different responses.

Don't be chased away because some people don't agree with you, man. You've faced off worse than this in the TDKR forum, even against me lol :oldrazz:

Yeah I cannot wrap my head around this best superhero movie I see some of them say either. To me it's not even a contender for the best Spidey movie, let alone the best superhero movie. The villains are terrible overall, two of them like something out of Joel Schumacher Batman, and third basically in there for a glorified cameo so [BLACKOUT]Gwen could be killed off and the Sinister Six set up.[/BLACKOUT] They completely ruined the Goblin story, IMO.

Andrew and Emma carry the movie. They are the highlights of it.

But you know you have to accept and respect different opinions, no matter how much you disagree with them. Again this should all be old hat to you after the TDKR forums :cwink:

Joker, what did you give this one out of 10?

I saw you say you are mainly in the batman section? Well it shouldn't surprise you that much to see these types of opinion in this bit. I admire your effort though.

I do agree with you up to a point. Rachel's death was more shocking and cold perhaps but for those reasons I felt quite detached from it. It didn't really effect me even though I felt it was well done.

This one did, even though I knew 15 years in advance it was going to happen. That's the success of it for me. Knowing it, watching it and yet still hoping that the result will change.

Nutshell:

-Shumacher writing + villains.

-Pointless prologue that we knew about in the origin but they put it in there because they couldn't figure out a way to start the film. Here's an idea: Just start it with that first Spidey chase!

-Billy Idol plays a watered-down Green Goblin. How should HE be the one to kill Gwen in such an iconic scene? Normans dead? Waste.

-Rhino? Electro? Electro's origin was worse than Sandmans.

You have your opinion and I have mine. I don't tell you what to think, don't presume to tell me what to think. :yay:

The Shumacher of spidey movies? You left it until you are about to leave this thread to say that? Haha you should just have it as your sig, it will save on the typing.

Okay, I was just curious. :)

Although I don't always agree with your opinions, I do like to know what you think! :oldrazz:

Well thank you. Btw apart from one character there, I think your top CBM villain list in your sig is solid. Nice to see some love for the original General Zod.

You're right. I shouldnt let it get to me. Ive dealt with worse! And i couldnt agree with you more regarding this movie. Everything you say is exactly how i see it. I have NO idea how people are invested in this. It's utter trash. My friend texted me with "this would be a kids b-movie if it wasn't for a few of the actors and their chemistry".

My love for Batman has literally nothing to do with how i see Spider-Man, or how i think a spider-man movie should be. I dont want it to be dark unless venom and carnage are there or something really tragic happens. My problem, is down to the writing of this movie, the limits they should have put on themselves regarding the villains, the director's choices, and the plot in general.

What are you hoping to achieve? Saying the movie is rubbish over and over again until people eventually come around to your thinking? You think ASM2 is rubbish, well that's fine, but I personally thought it was freaking awesome. You'll have no more luck convincing the people that liked it than they'll have of convincing you.

My fiancé said it was the best superhero movie she has seen in years, so basically we both like rubbish movie, you know what, we're fine with that.

These posts are way out of order. Fine you hated the movie but to post you cannot understand how people are invested in this is arrogance of the highest order. Your so superior to those who love it so why should I hang out with these idiots. Jesus!

Oh and the music was absolutely horrid. I couldnt believe that part of it. The score was mediocre but i could put up with that. It was least better than the first one. But the songs from popular artists that they chose, was embarrassing to say the least. It really felt like a Shumacher soundtrack.

Here i go again with the Shumacher name. It really represents this movie quite well. I feel so bad for Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Sally Field and even Dane DeHaan.

Jamie Foxx should be ashamed of himself and so should Marc Webb for creating the most cliche, unoriginal bastard of a villain.

I want to see a damn good Spider-Man that doesnt feel like a villain that's been used in the past with another villain (Rhino) that is filler and an excuse to be dumb. Plus the Harry/Peter thing has been done before. How on earth do people not see this movies unoriginality?

Well the list isn't in order, but I do love Superman 2 and as a result Terrance Stamp's Zod. My favourite Superman movie! :D

Also, does anybody here think we should have a thread just for ratings? Like we put "?/10" and leave?
