The American Flag!!!

Just hear me out...

I know that the flag shot in spider-man 3 is pretty much hated : considered corny, cheesy, unnecceasry and of course, alienating to other countries...

But what were peoples initial reactions when they saw that shot in the actual trailer??
there was nothing wrong with the flag. There is nothing wrong with pride in your country.

Spidey is an american icon so the flag is fitting. I was happy to see it again. And it is not alienating to other countries, do people get pissed off when Bond is in england and you see a british flag? No!

God Bless America!!!

Agh! It's like talking to a brick wall! There's no problem with the flag! It was an American flag! Who cares! We all know that Spider-man is an American hero! That's not what is important though. They had the flag in a scene just before the climax of the movie! I would find it very corny if a movie was made about a Canadian hero and a Canadian flag was shown just before the climax. After all, like what I said in a previous comment, Spider-man wasn't going off to battle to save the world or even the people in the crowd who were just watching. If he was, then it would have been the perfect moment to show the American flag. But as the case was, Spider-man was going into battle to save MJ. Now MJ may mean the world to Spider-man, but (and I'm not trying to sound cynical) the world could have survived easily if MJ had died. With the storyline of Spider-man 3, the perfect scene for the American flag was the Spider-man parade. People cheering for their hero- an American hero- who loves his country... hmm... sounds patriotic to me.

Grr! Just consider the above comment... I've talked to and listened to people who fought in various American wars and they would all disagree with almost everything you said.

Don't you dare try and speak for anybody other than yourself.

You're right. But I have a big problem with the scene.

Basically what it boils down to is this: people who are calling others unpatriotic simply do not understand the other sides argument. Furthermore, they seem to be the kind of people that have 'support the troops' magnets on their cars.

Tompiltoff is a moronic jackass and it's because of his idiocy in the batman boards that got his ass on probation.

You're right. I'm sorry about that comment. I just get heated when anyone mentions war. My own bias is that I don't like war and I don't agree with the war that's going on right now. A few American families I personally know have tried moving into Canada because they're children are nearly at the age where they could be called into the army. One family moved because the father was in the recent war in Iraq and he didn't agree with what was going on there. So, that's where my own biases towards American politics on wars have stemmed from.

I apologize for this argument; it was unnecessary.

I explained later in that comment that it was the scene I had a problem with.

If people think about it, it's the small details in a movie that makes a movie a success to some and a failure to others. With the American flag, some are extremely patriotic and hold their head up proudly (a little too proudly if you ask me) when they saw the flag, while others found it unnecessary and even awkward for that particular scene.

No American can be "called into the army", there has not been a draft here since 1973. If your friends are moving into Canada, they have their own insanity to blame for that.

No one listens to me on here do they? I think I've had it with these boards! I try to end something I started, but people keep bringing it back! Or I try to make a comment to explain something and people completely ignore it! I wrote in a previous comment that people could pm me about this topic! The reason why I said pm (and in case you didn't know, it stands for private message, but no one asked) is because this is a Spider-man 3 thread. Not a "Debate the politics of America and war"! So, what I was meaning in my last comment was that they were afraid that drafting would be inevitable, so they moved to Canada.

Now PLEASE! If you just can't stand me, then could you at least pm me, so I don't have to continually spam this thread with unnecessary bantering and you won't have to get so frustrated with me?

So wait, now you're saying that you did enjoy and appreciate the flag scene in Spiderman 3?

I think his point still stands: those "American families you personally know" are idiots.

I would have used a smiley banging his head against something, but I figured, why bother? In fact, reply all you want to this comment, I'm not going to read it anymore.

I can't believe a two second shot of Spidey in front of a flag in a film has spawned a political debate between fanboys...

You're right, this thread is so ridiculous more than a few American families that I personally know have tried moving to canada when their children came of age to be "called into" posting on it.

And not even an intelligent debate at that, just one guy being called out on his ignorance. :o
