With acrobatics and Parkour being the new thing in action movies now a days and the the description of he Captain America can do, should Captain America do Parkour (or some variant) and what combat style besides Military combat style should Captain America do in the film?

GOOD QUESTIONS. honestly, it depends.

parkour could work. martial arts could work. if you look at Wesley Snipes in the first Blade film. he should be on that level. but more of a street fighter style than kicks.

doing flips, leaps.

just look at the low budget 1990 version on youtube.com. I mean the costume is bad and it was all very cheesy. but the overall story and the loss and then Cap's fighting ability made sense. he's a regular guy who has super strength and can fight military style. so i think they will come up with something that looks right.

i trust them.

I see Cap incorporating acrobatics like tumbles and flips. Some parkour can be used I guess, but I see it more as too modern and urban. I could see someone like Daredevil incorporating parkour much more than Cap.

Am I the only one that kinda hates parkour?

I don't think Parkour should be a consideration AT ALL.
It's too modern, too specialized and is not in keeping with Cap's character at all.

Think about it, Steve Rogers is from the 1940s,(correct me if I have the dates wrong.) average guy, super strength, military training.
So his combat style would need to reflect the style and training of WWII US Military.
I wouldn't know details about that, but I'm thinking like, basic low level acrobatic, (not Spider-Man but more tumbling evasive manuevres) college wrestling style grapples and holds, maybe some boxing moves of that era, etc.

Overall I think Cap in the movie, when it comes to one on one, fist fight-- should be more brawn and brute force than anything overly technical.
In the Avengers movie, maybe he'll get an update, train with the new kids and modify his skill set.

I always imagined Steve having a more rugby-esque fighting style. Brute force, direct hits, not too fancy but very effective.

I always pictured Cap having a very unique fighting style. The guy can pretty much learn any move by seeing it once (almost like the Taskmaster... but not quite) and he's got an amazing mind for strategy. I think if you put the two together, you get an inventive style of fighting that allows him to do what others have only dreamed of (but not right away... he needs to learn and adapt a bit)

Okay, with a bit of research from Marvel sites, wiki and marvel's who's who issue (which I have), they all say this: He has blended judo, western boxing, kickboxing, and gymnastics into his own unique fighting style and is a master of multiple martial arts. So in a way i can some martial arts style with parkour to be something unique for the film and what Rage.

Then reason I asked cause after reading what they for Thor's fighting using a hammer-style fighting it got me think Steve's fighting style. With him training they may show him picking things and training from different "masters" through time progression clips (not sure on the right term).

Well as long as they stay away from Black Widow's Luchadore style, we should be fine.

Blonsky's flipping in TIH is a pretty good indicator of what's possible without seeming too... I dunno, cartoony. Speaking of which, we've already seen TIH himself do Parkour, so maybe a different inspiration.

I'd personally rather see a Jason Bourne-cut-practical-and-dirty style on his fighting, a style that relies on precision timing, use of the environment and things like that.

Cap should fight like this:

Cap can move, using his shield, multiple martial art forms, and acrobatics in concert. He is a truly powerful and devastating combatant. That should be conveyed on film if they have any hopes of doing the character justice.

I view Cap as having efficiency of movement; clear, crisp, powerful movements with a straight forward purpose. He has some gymnastic ability but I figure that with his mentality more for strict evasive measures (tumbles and so forth) and would rely more on his shield when charging to cut distance between his opponents.

Cap's a straight-forward guy, like his moral compass and I think his fighting style should reflect that. He's no hot-dogger...

I've seen this guy before. Some of his moves are VERY Cap like... others...to flashy. I would love to see Cap move like that though.

The name 'Parkour' is just a relatively new term though, surely. Fact is, Cap's been doing moves much like the ones seen in Parkour for years - free-running and acrobatics across, up and down the side of roof-tops and buildings, swinging off flag-poles etc. I think of a story back in the 80's ('To Tame a Tumbler') and it's a showcase of exactly that; Cap matched the Tumbler move for move.

It's not an ability exclusive to Daredevil; nor should it necesarilly just be defined as Parkour. It's the acrobatics that's key for me - this being the reason why I suggested Damien Walters as he comes from a gymnastic/tumbling background and incorporates this into his style as opposed to guys who just free-run.

To all the guys who dislike Parkour - how about a compromise?

What about a guy who practices Parkour but mixes it with traditional gymnastics - this guy is awesome.......

Wow, that guys tumbling, flipping and other acrobatic moves would work perfectly for Cap in my opinion. Yeah he is a little flashy, but I think flashy is also a little necessary to show that Captain America is the perfect human and not just a typical gymnast. However, I see all of this guys moves as more evasion or setting Cap up for the fight. The fight itself in my opinion should rely on the use of his shield, his fists and grappling moves mostly. I don't think of Captain America doing much in the way of kick moves. For fighting I think the links showing the usage of the shield in 300 and the fight scene showing Night Owl from watchman were not bad examples of what could be incorporated, but felt like Night Owl used to many kicks and the guy in 300 used a sword with his shield which made it hard for me to imagine the fight with instead a fist and a shield. Just my thoughts.

I agree with The Question. That's 100% how Cap should fight.

The acrobatic stuff that Waters guys does would be spot on combined with landing punches and kicks.

I'm all for Cap dealing heavy blows to take people down, but I don't want any knee shattering, or clavicle breaking or anything. Decisive, but strategic hits.

Those videos were pretty awesome. I could take some elements of that for Cap. Would look great in a trailer....and would get people into the theater.

The kinds of moves shown in the current Supersoldier mini series are exactly the kind of fighting style cap would adopt. The scenes of him as reverted back to his 98lb self really shows how knowing your craft makes muscle mean little.

I think Parkour is gay. Just like Batroc, silly french sissy kick-boxer. Parour reminds me of break dancing, which of course IS most gay.
