Soooo sorry if there were spoilers in that video. Lol i didnt actually make it to the end. My bad.

After reading some of the British and French reviews , Im a bit surprised how well-respected Whedon was by most of the critics. They took his talents for granted. Nowhere near that universal in the US.

To be fair, the French think that Jerry Lewis is a cinematic god, so there you go. :o

Fans simply aren't immune to the ugly. I cringe any time I see a poster here or elsewhere use "******" or "gay" in the prejorative sense. When they attacked Amy's gender instead of critiquing the merits of her review, it was absolutely cringeworthy. Every fandom has their ugly side. I wish we could be better than that.

Agreed.

touche xeno. but not just france. britain and italy and the netherlands as well.

I agree Suzanne... very smart comment about the whole "gay" and "******" thing... It's one thing to criticize or call something stupid but to use those sorts of derogatory words as synonyms isn't right at all. In the 70s and even 80s it was accepted but certainly not now.

If her review is to be criticized it should be on the basis of what was written, the merit of either how well written or poorly thought out the review was. I've seen a number of comments on here and other websites exclaiming how that critic should even be raped... it's really quite sad.

I feel like Alexei is perched on a large corner of a building or tower, wearing his own Batman get up (yes with all teh puffy in check) crouching as best as his flexibility will allow him to perched with his paper mache cape crumpling and cracking in the air as he keeps watch over movie theaters across the US to monitor this so called beast that is Avengers.

Rotten Tomatoes has a responsibility to moderate its comment pages and delete the ones that contain threatening or derogatory language. I have flagged some comments, but it's no use doing that if the editors aren't willing to delete the garbage. RT owes its contributors and the public better treatment than that.

I've learned to never read the comments on an RT review, for my own peace of mind. Fandom has so many grotesque colors

I'm much bigger than Christian Bale, yet I can still do 80 push-ups in a minute flat. Not too shabby for 43 :yay:

and I can do 90... not bad for someone who doesn't have long to live...

Look, I am a Marvel-baby, and I am incredibly psyched for The Avengers, and hoping it delivers a superhero kick that is totally different than The Dark Knight. But I am a fan of Nolan's Batman movies (though they are not without their flaws... Yet so far have reached a bar of quality that exceeds the average Marvel movie, in my honest opinion).

While I certainly think Alexei, judging by the nature of his comments, asks for this kind of provocation, your post doesn't help matters. Please let's stop feeding this 'feud' that is so embarrassing and COMPLETELY POINTLESS to fandom and get back to talking about the superhero history we all love and want to see translated to film.

It sounds like AVENGERS may be the Marvel Movie that fans have been dreaming of for decades. Why not celebrate--or debate-- that, instead of use it as fuel to continue a stupid argument that only makes both sides look incredibly petty and stupid?

Nerdy trivia pondering -- if Avengers stays where it is on the RT meter, I wonder how many filmmakers can say they've had two movies released in the same year with score over 90 percent fresh? Especially when both the films in question are or will be wide releases with over 150 reviews? I'm guessing that's a VERY limited group. Though it would be cooler if Whedon had directed both films.

I mean, some dude named Spielberg directed two pretty well-received films last year, and they are currently sitting at 77 and 75 percent fresh on RT, aka nowhere near Whedon (again, presuming Avengers holds up when more reviews come in). Soderbergh's legendary 1-2 punch from 2000 comes closer, with Erin Brockovich at 83 percent fresh and Traffic at 92, but again, if Avengers stays over 90, Whedon will have him beat. He's having quite the year.

parkerpete... chill out it's a complete joke... it wasn't meant to be an insult but a bit of tongue and cheek. People on here need to stop getting go overly serious about things. I thought the gist of my post was pretty clear on that it was meant to be a joke and nothing more.

Fans shouldn't take it so personally. When they see the movie and how much everyone loves it, there's no point in crusading against the minority over something so silly. Looking at the negative critiques about the movie you can't help but laugh most of them off.

So an obvious troll makes the RT meter drop 2%. No reason to flip ****.

Up to 50 reviews on RT with 48 positive and 5 top critics all positive..we should be getting a certified fresh soon

I am still calling a 93% final score. With any luck it won't drop that far however.

With respect to critics who don't like action movies/CBM's, it's actually in their best interest to put aside their distaste and review this movie positively. These genre's are never going to go away and it's better to get movies like this rather than dreck like Transformers 2 and Wrath of the Titans. Supporting movies like this will encourage it's success and will help to promote these type of quality blockbusters being made.

Someone is a fan of Young Justice. :hehe:
'"The Avengers" is neither overwhelming nor underwhelming. What it expertly is, is whelming." NY Post
Not the greatest review but I did find the reference pretty amusing.

I hope so. But dark knight was at 100% for almost 100 reviews and in the end it settled at 95% I think. But on rotten tomatoes reviews are added even after the movie comes on dvd so they can always bring the percentage down. I still hope that by the end it stops at 94 -95%.

Its not going to be as high as TDK. We've been over this already. Move on.

And as far as Kyle Smith's review, it's the (Newscorp) NY Post. Joss' liberal leanings could easily have cost him half a star. Ill take 3 stars from that guy any day of the week. Plus, he has to leave himself room for that 3.5-4 rating for TDKR. And the "whelming" quip reveals his DC bias. Not that theres anything wrong with that.

Again, I'm surprised how much love Whedon is getting from overseas critics. I underestimated his reputation.
