The Batman General News & Discussion Thread - Part 2

For some reason the sight of Clooney in the cowl always brings to mind Sam the Eagle for me.

This is devastatingly accurate.

I'm glad to have added another dimension of....whatever....to Batman & Robin. :funny:

The opening monologue is one of the most "Batman" things I have ever seen. They really nailed the feel of reading an early 90's comics where he's giving a dramatic speech about the state of the city or his current mission.
I'll always stand by this film feeling like a perfect mix of Doug Moench, Ed Brubaker, and Greg Rucka... peppered with some O'Neal/Adams vibes, with homage to '66/Keaton/Bale.

I love Matt Reeves.

So when would have been a good time Joe? After the movie comes out? They ripped the band aid off bud. It would have been much worse if he got fired right after all the high praise and success in March/April.

"Is this Riddler stupid or something?" reminds me of "are you South American or something?" from the ben meme :o

I hope so, too. That film was a big part of my childhood and I think it honestly holds up for the most part.

If you want a hybrid of darker and lighter Batman - that film hits the middle ground perfectly, for me.

I've said this before in the Batman Forever thread, but after rewatching the film some times ago, I really think it's the blueprint of what Marvel Studio has been doing for most of its run (at least from what I've seen from it). Dynamic family entertainment, colorful characters, a little drama here, some humor there... While this is not what I specifically look for in a Batman movie nowaday, when it came out back then, I was right in the target audience and absolutely loved it.

Nostalgia aside, I still have a fondness for this film. And even though we knew WB wanted to take the franchise in a more commercial direction after Burton's take, I still think there's a genuine sincerity and vision behind this film.
There was certainly a lot of work behind the visuals, the soundtrack was very memorable, and to me, the plot was actually quite visionary. I mean, people being lobotomized by a home device that broadcasts all sorts of programs while secretly stealing their personal information... Sound familiar? :funny:

I felt that way about Batman Forever too the last time I watched it. It really felt like a MCU movie. Plenty of stuff to have fun with even if that style of movie is not my cup of tea.

I wish the MCU would make some movies like Batman Forever.

*shrug* That's what they said when TV was invented.

Sure, but what I find funny is that Nygma's device is called "The Box" and is installed in every living room in Gotham. I don't know how Internet is displayed everywhere, but around here, "triple-play" has always been the norm and literally every ISP calls their device ...a "box" ! And almost everyone installs it next to their television. So that's what makes the image retroactively funny, especially for us ^^

Dude I was just quoting the newsreader from Batman Forever lol. 'But Edward Nygma just shrugs, "that's what they said when TV was invented!"'
