The Batman General News & Discussion Thread - Part 2

Definitely.

I was tempted to say that movie posters are becoming a lost art, but the truth is simply that studios have stopped seeking out the talent and work that many artists can offer.

Even without mentioning Mondo, a quick search on the internet turns up so many alternative visuals that it's even more infuriating that most films end up with, objectively, unprofessional and sometimes even incompetent Photoshop edits.

The worst of all is probably art found on merchandising. Like on t-shirts, diaries, packaging, etc. Pure laziness. And without wanting to make an argument from authority, I can say that most of these would have been judged too poor even for a casual graphic design school exercise. At least 15 years ago.

Sorry for that "old fart" type of post. This will probably become my main one type anyway... :funny:

no need to apologize, most modern day movie posters suck. :funny:

love mondo's stuff. wish their posters were the official ones.

I mean… it’s a cameo. I don’t think it’s that big a deal.
While this is true, WB is still acting unpredictable. They cut what was supposed to be Keatons scenes from Aquaman after he had filmed them. Keaton already has big roles in Flash and Batgirl, and they're still acting unsure who they want to be the DCEUs Batman. I don't know about anybody else, but to me it's a bit disrespectful to just throw Keatons scenes out like that. Just another example of poor planning.

As a Batfleck's fan, I'm happy. But this is indeed a mess, and can't believe they are throwing Keaton Bats in the middle of this

it's not that they are unsure what to do. Aquaman was supposed to be after The Flash. they got switched so Keaton scenes made no sense in Aquaman and they had to either cut them or get Affleck. seems like he agreed to cameo. it's just him wearing a nice suit so he didn't have a problem i guess.

That's fine, and I hope that's the case. I just don't want it to become a thing where it's like "oh affleck wants to do it again, quick replace this person with him". I'm glad he's healthy and still has a passion for it, but it wasn't long ago that he seemed completely done with Batman.

Word through the grapevine is that test audiences were super confused by Keaton showing up in Aquaman. Now that Aquaman comes out before Flash, his appearance in the first film makes no sense. Swapping him out with Affleck maintains DCEU continuity until Flash "resets" things.

Affleck shows up for one day on set for a cameo and collects a paycheck. Life moves on accordingly.

Sounds spot on but we both know there is a fanbase who are going to misinterpret this.

I’m just happy that WB and Reeves don’t seem to care. They live in their little bubble. Just like Todd Phillips has his own little world.

I had no idea Aquaman 2 comes out before The Flash. They best release Flash before Batgirl or that’s going to confuse ppl too.

This situation is a great example of how people will complain about DC/WB just for the sake of complaining about DC/WB.

Always happy to see a little Batfleck. As a whole, I'd like to get a better understanding of what the direction is for all these franchises. It still feels sort of....aimless and cobbled together.

Seriously, just dump The Flash at Christmas/New Years onto HBO Max and call it a day.
While i do agree to an extent, it's super unfair to Keaton which makes this situation all the more unfortunate and sad. The fact that Keatons return as Batman has to be lumped together with controversy is awful.

At least Keaton has Batgirl and more... the longer they drag this out (let alone it's whole history) and re-shuffle around the schedule with the other films/cameos, the more of a disservice to Keaton.

Bingo. It isn't ideal but this is what happens when things get moved around like this. You can't have Keaton cameo without some sort of explanation...the man hasn't been Batman since I was in middle school.

And honestly, not sure why Batman is needed in an Aquaman film anyways...

Good for Affleck.

I highly doubt Keaton cares as much as you all do...and I would bet he doesn't find it insulting. The man has been acting (and was a stand up before that) for 40 years he knows how the game is played.

Yup. This whole thing is much ado about nothing.

Keaton is pretty care-free. I’m sure he’s just doing this to have fun and collect a fat check at 70. Didn’t they cut his Morbius cameo too? I mean, his post credit scene in Homecoming should have been cut since it didn’t go anywhere.

At this point it’s just great that Bale and Pattinson are avoiding this crossover madness. I bet it’ll be fun to see Keaton a couple of times next summer, and then it’ll wear off. We’ll have our fix. Back to the new stuff.

I’m a little confused; instead of cutting scenes and paying for more cameos, and whatever, wouldn’t it be cheaper for WB to just switch the Aquaman & Flash release dates…?

No...they have the dates they do for a reason. A cameo scene doesn't have to cost much if they're is no special effects.

Yeah from what I read because of COVID screwing up dates causing No Way Home to come out it screwed up the Keaton storyline. That is why he is in the trailers a ton. Then the post credit scene made even less sense...

Stuff like this is why shared universes are not high up on my list of enjoyment.

I'm still excited to see Keaton again and I have a good feeling Batgirl is gonna surprise a lot of people. But other than that, I'm not sure what else from DC in the next few years I'm looking forward to. I don't even think I'm all that excited for Todd Philips Joker sequel.
