I liked the idea of having a childhood friend for Bruce in this new series of films and was very optimistic at first. But Rachel's continuous 'moral-shaming' of Bruce, even to her last breath, made me sick of her by the end (of both films). I didn't have a problem with the actresses, just the material they gave the character.

How is she a poor character because of that?

Plus it's Nolan. You can convert a woman into fish and chips and Nolan wouldn't know what to do with them.

They should've just made Dent the love interest. Two birds, one stone.

I don't see that as true. I think TDKR use of Selina was solid writing wise.

It's beating a dead horse at this point but I kinda don't understand why, for example, when someone mentions in the Superman or CW threads that Tyler Hoechlin should get more buff for Superman everyone agrees yet here whenever the topic of Pattinson having to get more muscular is mentioned the reaction is "but it doesn't matter, are you bodyshaming him, lol gay" .

I'm not meaning to insult anyone, but I'm just confused for that double standard, especially considering that no matter how skinny Superman is, he's an alien that gets powers from the sun, so he could always lift a mountain; whereas Batman is a human with no superpowers that trained himself since his parents got killed to become a one man army against crime and that represents how far a human can go so for him there's a character reason as to why he has to have a very above average physique.

I mean, it's almost completely certain we're gonna get a lanky Batman since they're barely gonna give him 3 weeks to train so I'm just gonna have to accept this version of Batman on its own.

But c'mon, these characters are modern myths and legends, and part of what the myth of Batman has been since he was created was the idea that he's the pinacle of human potential, both physically and mentally. That's why he resonates why a lot of people. That's part of why he resonates with me personally.

Why is it such a headscratcher as to why, for example, me and many other people would like this character whose myth is the idea of human potential both physically and mentally to at least be on par with some other superheroes physically? Or look significantly above average.

I'd argue for Batman it does matter at least more than it does for Flash, Aquaman, Superman, or any other number of superheroes.
Bruce Wayne is a person that's deeply, deeply obsessive, he decided to make his entire life centered around fighting crime, to push himself to his limits. And a guy that has trained to fight crime since he was a teen and whose only objective in life is to fight crime would quite obviously not look like an average person. There's a psychological reason to his physique, not just a superficial one like it does with 99% of superheroes.

I hope Batman is bulimic in this film. You can count everyone of his ribcages. In fact, he makes orange juice by grinding it on his skeletal structure, which you can clearly see. His power is that he throws up everything he eats. So before he goes on patrol, he grinds some onions to eat on his ribs, which he pukes on the goons.

As far as i’m concerned, he’s currently in shape. He just needs a couple of months to tone up. I hope he’s lean and doesn’t lower his voice much. It would be a breath of fresh air if he wasn’t the poster boy for classic masculinity. A bat whisper that isn’t too low register would also be fresh and creepy as hell. It would also bring out the wannabe meatheads on twitter who sit in their basement and defend Affleck’s Batman as if it’s the be-all/end-all.

Honestly this. There's a reason Conroy's talked about as being a scary Batman when he needs to be. There's a deathly and quiet calm about him, in a similar way to how Keaton was. That's far more scary than how Bale did most of his scenes in the suit where, due to the nature of his voice, he had to practically yell every line. A calmer Batman who always seems 100% in control is always scarier. Because there has to be a reason for why he seemingly has to be.

Well said. It’s so strange how my tastes have changed in the last year or two when it comes to this character and what I’d like to see next.

I’m going to make a bet that the trick that Pattinson has up his sleeve (as he has stated) is a bat-whisper. Make him speak in small doses.

I always defend the voice because I do think it works in some scenes but then I rewatch the movies and... oh boy does it get worse every time. Such a shame because Bale is, in my opinion, the most talented actor to play a superhero by a highly significant margin and his excellent performance is really undercut by it. Bale's normal raspy American accent is also fantastic and slightly deepened would have been perfect.
