Yeah seriously those trailers for the games made by Blur studios have some of the best action I've ever seen. The arkham origins trailer should be an instruction manual to Snyder on how to do action in a Batman movie.

You can say that again!

Totally agree. The fighting in that clip, aside from being a bit more show-offy, isn't too far of a departure from Nolan's Batman (editing makes a HUGE difference). Yes, TWS is a great example.

I'd love for something edited well (no shaky cam or tons of quick cuts), that clearly displays Batman's fighting skills without being too gratuitous. Though good job on Snyder for eliminating the needless speed up-slow downs from MoS (now if we could only ease up on the snap-zooms!).

We're on the same page :)

I think the alley fight in the Watchmen might be more to your liking. Sorry for the weird foreign voice VO it's the only video I found on youtube:

You're right, that is better! The actual punches and kicks are actually perfect, IMO. Fast and brutal. The downfall here is the need to "pause" the action to showcase the broken bones, face close-ups, etc. If Snyder can get rid of all the "blubber" and make it non-stop combat at full speed, I feel it's close to, if not equal to the action in TWS.

I'd love to see batman's fighting style be similar to what's shown in the arkham game trailers.

I'm not worried though.
Snyder's got this.

It's FANTASTIC!

I was looking at some pics of Ben tonight, and stumbled across this gem:
ATEMNZe.jpg

Look at how serious he is! He has such intensity in his stare, it gives you chills. This is how I imagine his Bruce Wayne would look when things get serious. AHHHHH!!!

oh gosh. I'm sorry.
I fainted.

I have rather mixed feelings. It is undeniable that Snyder is a man of visuals and will put a lot of effort into the Bat-action. At the same time, I feel that he's given a free pass too often because of his reputation as a visual mastermind.

I myself wasn't really overwhelmed with the fight scenes in Watchmen (the overall aesthetic was gorgeous tho). 300 was great, but the slow-motion was a bit too much for me. MoS was his finest outing yet (action-wise) so thats encouraging.

I suppose my feelings could be summed up like this: I have very high hopes for Snyder's Bat-action, but at the same time I don't think anyone can guarantee it'll be the best Batman action we've ever seen (that honor goes to the Arkham games. They are the gold standard.)
I think it's guaranteed to be the best live action Batman action ever seen.

The idea that Snyder gets a pass on anything is pretty hilarious.:funny:

I really think he does.

The fight scene at the beginning of the Watchmen is awesome too:

You might want to skip a minute to get to the fight.

A big YES to those colors!!!! If it could be that beautiful dark midnight blue similar to scenes in the Dark Knight Returns, well, that would be just peachy. I do rather prefer this update with a darker grey, though. It's not like we didn't all expect costume perfection from Snyder's team, but he delivered.

I love that. That is so Snyder too.

I hope he doesn't take that "too much action" complaint about MOS too seriously because I want lots of action. I want to see this kind of batman on screen along with a superman that has taken time to learn how to fight better after MOS. I want batman to seem like an old pro. He just does it almost automatically because he's been in so many fights before, while Superman's skills are increasing exponentially as he learns to use his powers more.

Live action? No doubts there. I was referring to all media, including the Arkham games and the animated films.

And yes, I do think Snyder's visuals are given a free pass. It usually goes like "I don't trust Snyder with the story, editing, direction, etc etc etc but we all know it'll be the best visual representation ever."

Don't get me wrong, he is absolutely amazing in the visual department. I don't think his version of something is the end-all be-all though.

funny how Ben can go from a guy looking like he plays Fantasy Football for a living, then puts a suit on looking like goddamn Bruce Wayne.

Anybody here who watches Arrow?

When Malcolm said "It's called kevlar, Thea" in tonight's episode, my first thought was "Tell that to the movie versions of Batman." :hehe:

I'd get rid of the texturing on the bat symbol and make the mouth cut out more like the new 52, but I love the suit overall. Still keep starting at it.

His head is pretty big.. That cowl must be very thin..

I do!!! I thought of these threads at that line as well :funny: what did you think about the finale?

I thought it was really good. I had some issues with the past few episodes, but overall I thought the ending was great.

The suit is awesome I love it more and more every time I see it. I used to not like the chunky bat but I love it here. The short ears and mean cowl look great too. And the texture makes me think of batman as a creature.

Yeah, it's okay. To be honest, I've been a fan of all black Batsuits
since 1989, I just think they look better and make more sense
The idea being that Batman's form should be shadowy, not that
distinct. So black and grey doesn't really grab me at first.

I know change was needed, but I'm not sure this is the change
I'm keen on. But having said that, we really need to see it in motion.
I wasn't keen on the look of the Lord of the Rings characters , in still
shots, back in 2001, but when you actually see them move, it's like
they've come to life straight out of the book.

So I'll reserve final judgment till I see the film, who knows it could
be awesome.

Everyone always posts that clip as what we can expect Batman to fight like, but I honestly don't think the fighting in that clip is impressive at all. Perhaps I have a different idea of how Batman should move, but slow-motion and dramatic posing after each kick is not how I see Batman at all...

He needs to be fast and powerful. Each blow should feel bone-crunching, and he needs to be very, very fast. The easiest way to improve the fighting from the TDK trilogy is to make Batman much faster (with A LOT more variety in his movements) than the brawling, slow and heavy stuff we got.

The fight choreography in TWS was absolutely fantastic, and I hope Snyder goes for a similar style with Batfleck. Weird as it sounds, I hope Batfleck is much more like Faora than Nite-owl.

UlQ8vzv.gif

Fast forward to 28 seconds and enjoy, this is how i want batman to fight. Overwhelm his enemies with an onslaught of punches, however have some brute force as well

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MuXrN8L9ro

The fights will automatically be better than the Dark Knight trilogy's if I can tell what's happening in them. That's easily the most frustrating aspect of those movies; it's fine the first time out in Begins when Batman's supposed to be mysterious, but then every fight afterwards lacks the clarity and kinesis you'd expect from a martial arts master.

All movies involving hand to hand combat should use The Raid series as a tutorial on how to do proper kinetic action that looks great on screen.

Sounds like you're using a cheap out by bringing up a video game when we are discussing movies.

Snyder will give us the best Bat-Action on film to date. Just like his suit is the best Batsuit to date.

I wonder if we will get a mix of physical costume and CG for the fight scenes? Crowe and Shannon's fight looked crazy well choreographed and in mo-cap suits no less. Could Zack use the same process for Ben?

^^^
That is an interesting thought.

Although a (big) part of me wants an awesome fight scene but with someone actually wearing the batsuit...
