The BATSUIT Thread

And to this day I can't look at the Batfleck suit without feeling disappointed! The costume all around just didn't look good IMO, no matter how comic accurate it was. We all have our own tastes and opinions on how Batman should look on the big screen.

I can overlook a bad suit over film quality, so the Pattinson suit reveal won't be big deal to me. I just hope the flick delivers.

According to the stuntmen at Corridor Digital the reason for those awful fight scenes in Nolan's trilogy was because of the fact that Nolan shot on film so that created a bunch of limitations for the stunt people. Since this movie is gonna shoot digitally, it'll not run into the same problem... hopefully.

Doesn’t Snyder usually shoot on film? Seems like a weird excuse there.

I mean, likewise. Which just makes it all the more unfortunate that my severe disappointment in the Batfleck costume was then reinforced by several films ranging from mediocre to poor. :funny: That said, Ben's performance in BvS wasn't bad.

But yes, ultimately what matters in the end is the overall quality of the film itself and I wager Pattinson and Reeves will deliver on that front.

Snyder shot BvS on film tho. Yeah, I know it was obvious a stuntguy in the suit, but still. Bane v Batman scene earlier was also a letdown for me, but not on Bane's part. Them camera angles mostly worked on him.

I also want to clarify to only being a bit letdown by Nolan's Batman fight choreography, but have no issues with his action/fight sequences in his other flicks.

That's because it very much is an excuse. On the one hand, I get his point about perhaps missing the smaller issues in playback, but ultimately it was just a recurring problem with Nolan and not being as skilled in choreographing a proper fight scene in the same way he is with larger scaled set pieces.

I think the opening in the mouth area of the cowl is the bigger issue in these suits than them ears, but that's another story. lol

I just want to draw bigger ears on these. Eh.

You can make all the excuses you want for Nolan's lackluster Batman fights. A master of set pieces no doubt, but I've never been more letdown. TIll this day I can't rewatch Rises. And before you try to come at me like I'm some kind of Nolan/Bale hater, I still consider Dark Knight to be the greatest comicbook film.
And to me action scenes, particularly in superhero movies are a dime a dozen.

Rarely do any of them impress me. Because to me it’s just icing on a cake.

If I’m not invested in the characters, an action scene doesn’t mean jack squat.

I appreciated Nolan’s approach which is more believable in terms of brutality. It felt more visceral. Human bodies reacting to violence in believable ways. Not cartoon style ala BvS and JL.

Hell, same goes for the Burton films, and they were even more limited given the costume.

As opposed to the hyper stylized and totally unbelievable action sequences from say BVS? Where supposedly an aged and broken down Bruce Wayne crawls across the ceiling like a goddamn giant spider in a horror movie.

Like BvS technically has a better action scene with Batman, I guess. If you’re a middle schooler and just care about the superficiality of stuff like that.

But to me it doesn’t hold a candle to the BEST action scene in a Batman movie, when the Dark Knight takes on Gotham SWAT and Joker’s goons all at the same time, while saving innocent civilians ... with the intensity of the story, and characters I actually care about. That are likable.

While I think that Batfleck is very overrated by the Snyderbros online right now, I still think that the BvS suit was a huge step in the right direction with its black/grey color scheme and other small details. Sure, it had its problems as well and it wasn't perfect, but it still kinda is my favorite. None of the batsuits so far is perfect lol.

Agreed AGAIN hah

BB suit almost hit that sweet spot. Almost perfect. It kinda reminds me of the MOS suit in a way, almost a perfect Superman suit, but they just kept adding and changing.

Yeah, I completely agree.

Honestly Nolan had a really great aesthetic in Batman Begins in general and then it largely just went out the window for something far more ordinary in the second and third films. Bale's Bat-Voice worked in Begins, Gotham City generally looked on the money, Wayne Manor and Arkham Asylum were both pretty great.

Man, I could not disagree with this more. My major criticism of TDKT's fight sequences is that they lack that brutal, visceral quality (that DD and Punisher captured so we'll). And for all Nolan's focus on "realism", those scenes feel over-choreographed and honestly remind me of Adam West's Batman at times.

Affleck’s suit at first was a eye sore for me, the shorter ears, the basic plain fabric material... after Nolan, I had it in my mind that: more panel lines and armor = more aesthetically pleasing suit. I loved the suit’s cowl and for the life of me cannot understand the decision(s) to the justice league suit. I mean the ears are just not Batman to me.

And I feel the same way about MOS suit. Why mess with that perfect suit? It made sense, had unique properties and then they said: add more lines! Make the belt area, a square! And make the shield smaller... I’m hoping that isn’t an issue for Bat’s. I want a easily recognizable symbol that doesn’t blend in like TDK. You couldn’t even tell he had a bat emblem in some shots.

I first started lurking around here when TDK was in production and remember the old Batsuit thread where everyone was excited because someone from the production mentioned tweaking the suit to a greyer colour and having a two-tone aesthetic. Everyone was rejoicing because we thought it meant giving the Begins suit the classic comics colour scheme and calling it a day. There were a bunch of killer manips like this:

Everyone seemed really happy and excited with this sort of look. Then there were reports they wanted to get rid of the foam rubber, let Bruce turn his head, and go for more of a fabric mesh material. People were even more excited. If only we knew lego legs was coming, if only they could have stopped with minor tweaks to the Begins suit...

That picture on the left is bad ass and menacing. The one on the right absolutely sucks ... I wasn’t clamoring for black and grey, ever. It’s about adapting the material to live action and pseudo reality

I would laugh if the reveal was in black and white, so no one knew what the colors were lol

Ahaha dont give them ideas
