I don't get comments like this. Batman has almost always worn trunks, so much so that his costume looks strange, visually, without them. Why is it a problem now?
No it infinitely looks more strange with them. It’s a ridiculously corny and stupid look.

It’s been joked about a million times over. None of the marvel superheroes have such a dated stupid looking design choice.

Just Batman and Superman.

It’s the reason Tim Burton ditched them and put him in logical and more menacing all black.

Chris Nolan ditched them.

Zack Snyder ditched them.

The new 52 correctly ditched them in the comics finally. It looks terrible. Beyond silly.

The costumes are already theatrical enough. Undies or diapers outside your pants is cringe af.

Exactly. Take a look at this concept, no briefs and it looks fine. Briefs...just are dumb when you think about them at all.

Yup. Agreed.

And that suit looks sick. Armored. But mobile. Dark and no blue. And no distracting diapers or undies outside of his pants ... like a cornball weirdo.

Just a uniformed militaristic armor body suit. With accentuating bat elements.

I’ve never in my life heard somebody say the diapers or undies outside of the pants looks cool or menacing.

The only thing I’ve heard from people with taste LOL or normies is that it looks ridiculously stupid.

I’m so glad they made a logical choice in 88/89 to avoid it in live action.

Does it have to look menacing? It's just a way to break up the costume so he's not a grey blob.
But it’s not just a gray blob LOL and no that’s not a legitimate excuse. That’s not why they did it that way to begin with. And yes, it looks stupid. That’s why every film maker has avoided it like the plague. And why it’s been joked about forever with him and Superman.

I have to admit that if guy running up on me in a dark alley like he was gonna beat the **** out of me was wearing his underwear on the outside of his pants, I’d be a little more scared than if he wasn’t.

I don’t want them on Batman though.

I mean, I agree that trunks don't really make sense in live action but I find the vitriol...interesting.

Plus I do think breaking up the grey is a good idea, either by way of two-tone panels or straps that evoke the shape of trunks or whatever.

I tend to think the need to break up the color scheme is more a thing of the two dimensional art form of comics, particularly back on the he days before digital coloring. Now, with the textures and ability to add cloth and armor panels and such to a costume, as well as simple depth via shading and lighting, there’s not as much need there.

The more three dimensional the art is, whether in more advanced comic illustrations or in love action, the less need there is to break up the color scheme. Thus why the cartoons are far more likely to use the trunks even more than the comics - they’ve got flattened textures and art styles like the early comics.

One thing I'll always appreciate about New 52 and Rebirth is the removal of Batman and Superman's undies. The classic looks were cool when I was kid but quickly got over them and only supported it because of the characters and especially batman being my favorite.

They look awkward now without undies to some because of how used we are to the iconic suits but to me it simply feels oh so right and about damn time! As for live action films, all black or comic inspired bat suits are fine with me but a must is the lack of undies over the suit! and same with supes from now on. I thank Zack Snyder for at least that decision!

People realize that the "undies" on classic superhero costumes is meant to evoke circus strongmen and professional wrestlers, right?

It was meant to visually compare them to people who were known for their strength and such. When people make fun of it, imo, it comes off ignorant of why they were there in the first place.

Is it necessary today? No. It doesn't have the same effect today that it did back then. Should it be in the new film? No, since it's not set in the 40s, i don't think it should be. But was it a viable design when it was made? You bet it was. Does it still look good? I think it does.

also form a design perspective it breaks up the color of the body suit, specifically with Superman. Having the red in the middle of all of the blue balances the colors out nicely.

I’m all for a tactical suit, but Bermejo’s looks a little too home-made for me. Bruce Wayne is a billionaire after all. I’d like something sleeker
