The BATSUIT Thread

My favorite comment which has literally been on every forum on this site discussing costumes first looks for literally every superhero movie ever is, “Maybe this is just a prototype suit and they upgrade.” .

How many times has this been the case? Almost never.

Or better "Maybe this was just for the camera test. It's not how they'll look in the movie".

Those comments about Joker drove me crazy. Just say you don't like the look and move on. Or just wait until you get a full picture and stop overreacting.

There's been over 100 thread pages since the reveal, and all we've seen is a filtered look at part of his chest and an awkward angle of the cowl. Just relax guys. I don't think any fan has a full grasp on what this suit is, and are letting their imaginations get the better of them. When that happens, it usually trends towards the negative.

This seems like a pretty good prediction of how the suit will look like based on stitchings and silhouette.

I'm sure I'm missing something somewhere, but the only CBM I can think of off the top of my head where the superhero upgrades his suits over the course of the movie is Iron Man.

edit: I guess you could include Spider-Man, at least some versions.
Kilmer (out of necessity) changes to what I think was called the 'sonar suit' for the final act of Batman Forever, and I seem to remember Clooney changing his costume mid-Batman & Robin (although I haven't see that film since it came out).

In my recent previous post where I said I like the suit but not the cowl even going so far to call it a cheap pinterest looking cowl. I’m prepared to accept it as I agree with the other comments that this is likely the final design. But I did want to add that after seeing some of these photoshopped pictures showing what the full cowl could possibly look like I admit it is growing on me. So I’ll save my final judgment/opinion for when we get to see a better official picture or full suit reveal. I’m fine with it regardless as I’m aware this is a complete new story and I’m just excited to see it. I’m one of those guys that can accept creative differences from the source material both in looks and story wise. There are several things I didn’t personally like from previous films but loved several things at the same time. What I consider perfect others would not and vice versa.

But I’m definitely excited to see this film. A lot of the casting has me very excited and curious.

Also, technically, Bale Batman did the suit upgrade twice and in two different films.

In Begins when he first got the suit from Lucius for "spelunking" and went out with the ski mask. Later upgrading the suit with the Bat symbol, painting it, adding the cape and cowl all after taking a rough fall and hit to the ribs escaping Gordon and for the criminals to "feel my dread" as The Batman.

Also, in The Dark Knight, he started the film out in the Batman Begins suit only to go back to Lucius to request help with a new suit to become faster and more mobile and be able to turn his head to be "easier to back into the driveway".

The proto-suit in BB still ended up being the same suit he used in the finalized version. And they released a picture of the new suit in TDK so we knew that was coming from the get-go.

Just saw over in a Batman facebook group from a second unit source that the suit reveal WAS of a prototype suit and we will see another suit in the film. I am trying to find the source to post the entirety of the information.

This is the information that supposedly came from the set:

The Batman second suit

We’re currently working at the Cardington Sheds in Bedforeshire in Shed. We finished building a huge cathedral-set in there just a bit ago and have begun filming inside.

So recently Matt Reeves revealed the batsuit. We just started filming with it recently, it looks very cool in person and Robert looks great.

What I know from filming in the current cathedral set piece (we’re almost done here, filming is moving to Glasgow in less than a week) is that this suit get destroyed very early on. I think it is due to a villain, but I couldn’t tell.

It’s Batman’s prototype suit and once it gets destroyed, he makes a new one. I haven’t seen it in action but I saw a few pictures taken by someone who was putting it together.

It’s extremely similar to Spider-Man’s SHIELD suit from “Far From Home” movie last year. The material is very similar, being a sort of tactical padded fabric material. There’s way less straps and extra details on the batsuit compared to the Spider-Man suit but the material looks very similar.

It’s grey, with black gloves extending to his forearms and black boots. The symbol is no longer metal and lacking ears, it’s a more “classic” version of the symbol on the first suit in the film. The cowl is made of a higher quality material than the leather of the first cowl. The ears are medium-to-long length and the mouth opening is much smaller. He no longer has the collar. (I think he might have the white eyes too).

The utility belt is a bronze-gold faded color, and it’s more pouch than the futuristic type belt of the Nolan films. If I had to describe the suit in pictures rather than words it would be a cross (provided links).

There you have it. This Batman will have multiple suits throughout the film.

BS from Reddit.

I hope this suit gets some cape action like in Begins.

Absolutely, Batman Begins without a doubt had the best on screen Batman Cape movement to date. That was one thing I hated with the costume change in TDK, but was happy to see them bring back the draped cape and some cape movement again in TDKR even though it was minimal. Was absolutely stunning. Batman Begins is still my #1 favorite Batman movie to date with Batman 1989 in a close #2.

I loved the Costume in BvS and Justice League but the cape looked very heavy and had little movement outside of some of the action and gliding sequences.

So I agree 100%, I hope to see cape action like that again in this series.

I welcome the idea and find it very possible. However, even though I’m not a fan of the cowl I’m ready and willing to accept the costume we’ve seen as the final version and wont let my dislikes detract from enjoying the film when its released.

But, I just have a gut feeling that what this potential “spoiler” says will be true. I had that feeling from the very first reveal. I suppose we will see when time comes I just look forward to the first trailer to help get a better feel of the tone and reality vs fantasy aspect that this franchise is going for so far. Currently, I’m getting a more grounded Nolanesque vibes than anything else. It may seem silly to say that based only on what little we’ve seen and read but Its just the vibe I’m currenlty getting. Anohter exciting time to be on the Hype for sure.

Edited to clarify I’m not saying that I believe this potential “spoiler” word for word is true. I just can see something like this playing out is all. If not, hey cool. Just saying.

"Trust me guys, the suit we saw get's destroyed and replaced with one with things we like."

Totally legit, man.

Exactly, that's something I've always found kinda irritating about the more negative reactions to the suit.

It literally just comes down to "this doesn't look exactly how I want it to."

I have people arguing with me left and right on facebook swearing that the above Reddit info I posted is the real deal. Sounded way too good to be true to me in the first place. When people don't like something, they REALLY want to believe anything to support their own opinions and go out of their way to prove it.

I like the suit from what I've seen so far even though it's not really what I was hoping for. I could also believe it's an early version that is replaced within the narrative of the film. Pretty happy either way.
